Christmas isn’t only for presents, at least the wrapped kind. It’s also for spending time at the beach under the hot sun, dabbling your toes in the sand and discovering an exotic creature… Say what?
Announced late last week, digital drama producer Michael Caruso (“Ladies of the Lake,” “Winterthorne”) is set to direct an all-star soap cast in the upcoming holiday-themed TV movie, “A Mermaid for Christmas.” The project, which is currently in pre-production, will feature “One Life to Live” alum Jessica Morris as Daphne, a mermaid whose lost her way and is thrust into a world unknown. Kyle Lowder (Rex Brady, “Days of our Lives”) will portray Daphne’s presumed love interest, Travis Hunter.
“Thrilled to finally announce this. So grateful and excited to tell this beautiful story and share it with you all this holiday season,” said Lowder, who is also an executive producer on the project.
According to the movie’s official Instagram page, “A Mermaid for Christmas” is said to combine classic Christmas themes with “an escapist fantasy element that only a mermaid can provide!” The producers promise plenty of warmth, humor, and whimsical magic.
In a statement, Caruso said, “Finally! So excited to begin a brand new journey and bring you some holiday fun for the whole family with Kyle Lowder, Jessica Morris, Kathleen Gati, Ari Zucker, Shree J. Wilson and many more. No matter what you celebrate, there’s always room for holiday magic!” Caruso wrote the script and also serves as an executive producer, alongside his wife Barbara Caruso.
“I feel so lucky to work these talented actors again!” said Zucker, who recently returned to “DAYS” as Nicole Walker and who’s previously worked alongside several of the “Mermaid” cast in “Ladies of the Lake” and “DeVanity,” both from the mind of Caruso. Zucker will portray Tiffany Deveraux.
“So excited and honored to be a part of this adorable Christmas movie,” said Gati, who plays Connie Hunter.
Newcomer Emma Basler Demirjian, daughter of “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” long-time publicist, Eva Basler, has been cast in the role of Maya.
Scheduled for release this upcoming holiday season, there’s no word yet on where viewers can catch this fun adventure, but make sure to stay tuned to Soap Opera Network for the most up-to-date news on the project.
