Speculation on the possible return of Steve Burton to “General Hospital” can finally be put to rest. ABC has confirmed through an on-air promo that the actor is indeed returning to the daytime soap opera that made him a household name. But who will be playing?

Without revealing any storyline details, particularly whether Burton will be returning to the role of Jason Morgan, currently portrayed by Billy Miller, or if there might be a Tale of Two Jason’s storyline brewing, or the least likely chance of the actor tackling a brand new character, the airing of the promo happened to correspond with the actor celebrating his 47th birthday.

“The rumors are true” read messages on the soap’s official Facebook and Twitter pages, which included the attached promo to their posts that shows an image of the actor along the “General Hospital” logo with the caption “Steve Burton Returns to ‘GH.’ Stay tuned.”

Outside of the above promo, ABC, nor representatives for the actor, have issued a written statement about Burton’s return to “GH.” In fact, Burton himself was unable to respond to birthday wishes from fans today, most likely due to knowing that the network planned to officially announce his return to the soap via said promo.

An official tape date nor a first airdate has been announced.
