After pleading guilty to vehicular assault (a fourth-degree felony) and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (a first-degree misdemeanor) in December, following an October 2014 car accident that left himself and girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit, injured, “Days of our Lives” star Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) appeared in an Ohio court earlier today as a judge handed down their ruling. Smith was sentenced to three days in jail, given two years probation and received a one year license suspension.

Smith was also ordered to speak to High School students in Ashtabula County, Ohio about dangers of driving drunk.

“Today was very nerve racking & 2 hear all the support from fans, friends & family has really helped me stay strong,” said Smith in court according to CBS19 Action News Reporter, Scott Taylor, who was on the scene. On Tabit, who he reportedly plans to marry soon per testimony in court, Smith said, “She is doing fantastic. She has a couple more weeks of physical therapy & she will be back good as new.”

Taylor reports that Tabit was having pins removed from her leg and was told by doctors she couldn’t make the trip to Ohio for today’s hearing as a result. However, Taylor says that a letter from Tabit may have helped Smith receive a much lighter jail sentence than the 24 months he had been facing. In fact, Smith’s jail time could be suspended if he completes DUI school.
