(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — NASCAR driver Jeff Burton (aka: JB) is set to appear on next months “General Hospital” during a cross-over promotional opportunity between the soap and NASCAR racing.

Burton, driver of the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet Impala SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and a 21-time winner in NASCAR’s premier division, will trade in his driving experience for acting experience today while filming scenes with Jason Thompson, who portrays Dr. Patrick Drake on the ABC Daytime drama series. He will be playing himself, while Thompson’s character is said to be an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

“I’m excited about going to the set of General Hospital and taking on a role with Jason,” Burton said in a statement. “I’ve been in commercials and was a guest star on a sitcom a couple of years ago so I’m hoping those appearances prepped me for my soap opera debut. Luckily, I get to play myself and talk racing, which will help take some of the pressure off.”

On Sunday, February 22, Thompson will join Burton at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California for the Auto Club 500 airing on FOX. The actor will enjoy a pace car ride before heading to a hospitality tent where both stars will participate in Q&A and autograph sessions with fans. Thompson will also participate in pre-race festivities by attending the driver’s meeting and driver introductions.

Burton’s “GH” appearance is scheduled to air in mid-March on ABC and SOAPnet.

“General Hospital” airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — After a minor delay, the SON Top 10 Poll for the Week of January 12-16, 2009 is now available.

After delays held back the posting of the new Top 10 poll, we have decided to extend the voting period by five hours in order to give everyone an equal amount of time to vote for who they thought was the best for the Week of January 12-16, 2009. Polls will now close on Thursday, January 22 at 4:59 AM, ET/1:59 AM, PT. The Top 10 chart will be posted later that day.

Additionally, we have added Scott Clifton (Schuyler Joplin) to the “One Life to Live” Actors list, and removed Justis Bolding (ex-Sarah Roberts) from the Actress list. Bolding last aired on January 7. We have also added Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) and Hayley Erin (Abby Carlton) to the Actress list for “The Young and the Restless.” Davidson was previously not listed due to an oversight. We welcome Natalia Livingston back to “General Hospital” and the Actress list as she re-joins the soap as Rebecca. Lastly, we have added Bridget Forrester and Owen Knight to the Couples list for “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Natalia Rivera and Olivia Spencer to the couples list for “Guiding Light.”

If you find someone missing from the poll or anyone still listed that shouldn’t, please let us know by emailing us.

Voting for the Week of January 12-16, 2009 is now open.

Eligibility: In order for an actor or actress to be eligible for the SON Top 10, the actor or actress must be on-air during the week covering the voting period. If they do not appear on screen during this period, their votes are not included in final Top 10 Rankings. This includes their eligibilty in the couples category. Couples do not need to be on-screen together, however, to be eligible.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — While America gets ready for a change on Tuesday, January 20, when Senator Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America, fans of daytime drama shifted this weeks Top 10 results into anyone’s favor.

In its second week out, the SON Top 10 recorded a record 1,350 total votes. This is a 40% increase in votes over last week. Additionally, 2,579 votes were cast  for 124 daytime actresses and 2,509 votes were cast for 117 daytime actors. 2,554 votes were cast for daytime’s most popular couples.

Holding onto the Top Actor title for the second week in a row, “General Hospital’s” Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) held a commanding lead over his nearest competitor, “All My Children’s” Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater). The actor had a 352% vote lead over Kaye. As one-half of two popular pairings, it’s no surprise that Burton is well worth the airtime he receives on the daytime drama series.

Jumping from 2nd place to first, “General Hospital’s” Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) unseats co-star Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio) as Top Actress. McCullough fell to fourth place. Also on the rise, “Guiding Light’s” Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne Lewis) rose from 5th to 3rd. This is the highest ranking for a non-”GH” actress. “The Young and the Restless’” Sharon Case (Sharon Newman Abbott) delivered a powerful punch as the actress jumped to 7th place from 21st last week. The actress received an 81% spike in votes week-to-week. By comparison, “One Life to Live’s” Susan Haskell (Marty Saybrooke) fell from 10th to 26th place week-to-week.

“General Hospital’s” Elizabeth Webber and Jason Morgan are daytime’s Top Couple for the week after placing third the week prior. Fellow “GH’ers” Maxie Jones and Damian Spinelli received a significant spike in ranking as they placed 10th. Previously they ranked just out of the Just Missed list in 23rd place. Showing the largest gain in any category, “One Life to Live’s” Natalie Buchanan and Jared Banks jump 24 spots from 33rd place to 9th. Last week’s top couple, Robin Scorpio and Patrick Drake, fell from the top to 6th. Rounding out the list was Sharon Newman Abbott and Nicholas Newman of “The Young and the Restless,” who went from 13th to 7th and “Days of our Lives” duo Sami Brady and EJ Wells who fell a notch to place 8th.

After fighting it out with “The Young and the Restless” in last week’s Top 10 chart, ABC’s “General Hospital” was able to hold a solid lead over the CBS drama series this week and claim the Top Soap title. The series held a 54% advantage over “Y&R.” “All My Children” rose a notch to place third, while “Days of our Lives” jumped from 6th to 4th.

Voting for the Week of January 12 – 16, 2009 opens Friday at 4:00 PM, ET/1:00 PM, PT. You can vote here.

On Wednesday, January 14, Alexis isn’t lead to believe otherwise when she questions Jax on his whereabouts the night before and if they included Carly. Carly once again butts heads with Claudia, but this time it’s over Michael. Hoping to divert an upcoming Government raid, Jason asks Carly to mitigate a meeting between he and Sonny. Will Carly decide to continue making progress with Jax or will her friendship with Jason win over, again?

        A Closer Look: Postpartum Depression
Over 12 years ago, Carly Roberts came to town and blew the town of Port Charles sky-high when they all learned that she was the daughter of Barbara Jean Spencer and a John from back in the day. She then tore apart two families when it was learned that she conceived a child with either A.J. Quartermaine or Tony Jones in 1997. Once the baby was born, however, Jason Morgan claimed the child was his – the baby was fathered by his brother A.J. Soon afterward, Carly left town believing she harmed her child. Upon her return months later, she refused to touch the baby. It was revealed that Carly was going through postpartum depression, but not everyone was convinced – in particular one Robin Scorpio. On Thursday, January 15, look for Robin to have an unexpected reaction to her newborn baby girl. Fearing she is doing something wrong, Robin asks Elizabeth to watch over Emma. Afterward, she finds Jason and questions him on what things were like when Carly suffered from postpartum depression. On Friday, January 16, Robin is offended by Patrick’s medical suggestion.
