Daytime Ratings: ‘The View’ is Least Watched Season-to-Date

After reporting how daytime stacks up when looking at the Adults 18-49 demo as used by primetime advertisers, one has to wonder what daytime looks like in the actual key sales demo of Women 18-49 when it comes to the season-to-date rankings. What's surprising is how poorly "The View" does overall, and how well "General Hospital" is actually doing when factoring in the Live+7* numbers vs. the traditionally reported Live+SD** numbers seen here on Soap Opera Network each week.

THE NUMBERS

After reporting how daytime stacks up when looking at the Adults 18-49 demo as used by primetime advertisers, one has to wonder what daytime looks like in the actual key sales demo of Women 18-49 when it comes to the season-to-date rankings. What’s surprising is how poorly “The View” does overall, and how well “General Hospital” is actually doing when factoring in the Live+7* numbers vs. the traditionally reported Live+SD** numbers seen here on Soap Opera Network each week.

During the most recent week of ratings data (week of December 7-11, 2015), “GH” rated with a 0.73 that placed it last among the four soaps. In our recent report covering all of daytime, “GH” even fell to seventh place. For the season, however, “GH” is actually in third place with a 0.92 rating in Women 18-49 vs. the recently reported 0.73. Only “B&B” with its 0.94 rating and “Y&R” with its 1.3 rating does better than “GH.” In fact, when rounded down, “GH” is tied with “B&B” for second place with a 0.9. Unfortunately for the soap, Nielsen made a change in recent years that provides unrounded ratings thereby pushing “B&B” ahead of ABC’s sole remaining daytime drama series.

Despite making changes in front of the camera for the second straight year, with the additions of Raven-Symoné, Paula Farris, Michelle Collins and Candace Cameron Bure to its full-time roster and the return of Joy Behar, ABC’s “The View” is daytime’s least watched program season-to-date in Women 18-49. The show is beaten handily by timeslot competitor “The Price is Right 1” and “The Price is Right 2,” while even losing out to network counterpart, “The Chew.”
