WHAT DO YOU THINK? Comment Below...
  • Andrew Hass

It was a bad week for soaps in overall viewers but for 3 of them they went up from the same time last year.Plus in the key demographics the soaps did good.

    • sands of time

Gee, I wonder if the soap that did not gain from the previous year is the soap that had the highest demo gains, including the previous year?!

      • Andrew Hass

In 2 out of the 3 demos DOOL had the highest gains from the same time last year. Also DOOL lost the least amount of overall viewers but i don’t think that’s something to be proud of.

        • Trish Wicks-Watts

I was going to say people tuned in to see Nick go down, but that was the lowest week.

GH was fluff with the Nurses Ball. It was a fun time, but not a big audience gain. It’s not like it advances the plot.

  • sands of time

Good demos for DAYS! People missed a lot during that week of DAYS! Better luck next time.

    • ROBNYC

I am loving DAYS since May Sweeps has started. They are spot on with every episode. B&B is a lot better too since May. Cannot speak for Y&R as I am not a fan of their style since JFP took over but DAYS is on fire and B&B is very good.

    • ROBNYC

Also, I still prefer Chandler Massey as Will but the new one is beginning to grow on me.

  • sands of time

DAYS is the leader in Demo gains! Maybe next week’s ratings will be better in the total viewers, including the previous year.

  • moshane58

People may grip but I am enjoying GH. Hope all soaps succeed and keep raising.

    • MW

I see more action on GH then I ever saw in the hood lol..I like it..Days is on point..Y&R is meh watching Bold & the Beautiful is like watching four walls man that show is dry paint no action..

  • sands of time

They’re either turning the TV’s off in nursing homes or the Y&R viewers are dying.

  • MattArmando

All soaps WAY up compared to last year! That’s what matters most. Year-to-year improvement.

  • ROBNYC

The TV Execs should wake up. Any of these shows performs better than any primetime show on CW and many on NBC these days. Also I read on TVBYTHENUMBERS that every year networks lose 6-8% of their primetime audiance. As daytime fans we should be reminding people that these are in fact great numbers for all soaps. Soaps have loyal viewers and someday the networks should realize that the more viewers you have in the day the more watch your primetime shows.

    • ROBNYC

In the case of NBC and Dracula, NBC would be dancing in the streets if Dracula had as many viewers as DAYS and GH provides daily and reliably. I think Y&R and B&B has better ratings then REVENGE this season. What’s the problem? They need to start cherishing these shows and we need to talk them up as fans.

      • Fox

Unfortunately, the commercial-sponsored television networks (like ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) live and die by advertising revenue, which means they’re less interested in total viewers and more interested in the 18-49 demos. And this myopia isn’t really the networks’ fault. They only program according to what advertisers want and are willing to pay for. Convince sponsors to change who they’re targeting (and value older viewers), and you might get somewhere. But that said, according to the “Wall Street Journal,” right now there are cases where a viewer age 18-34 can be worth 3X what a 55+ viewer is when it comes to ad rates. So basically, what one really needs to keep in mind when trying to compare numbers is “all viewers are not created equal.” – jmho

    • Andrew Hass

I don’t think it’s fair to compare daytime shows and prime time shows.Soaps are on 5days a week year round and prime time shows are only on once a week and not on all year.So it would be interesting to see what the ratings would be if soaps were only once a week.

      • TV&MovieBuff

Plus look at how many prime time shows don’t make it every year. If daytime shows were required to perform right off the bat in the same way prime time shows are many of the shows currently on wouldn’t have last their first year.

Plus prime time shows face at least twice the first run competition as daytime shows do. Many of the cable networks only air first run shows in prime time and reruns in daytime. Or no shows at all.

I don’t ever buy into the daytime vs prime time comparisons because it is like comparing apples to oranges.

Look at how well Judge Judy does in daytime and look at how badly it did in prime time.

  • BBSucks.

Again, BB leads in most viewers lost.
    -132,000 LOL!!
Not all viewers only want to watch Brooke and Hope.

    • Tyre

      You’re completely wrong.

  • vivien

Still waiting for a red-hot love story on ANY soap .. the only one that even came close, Nicole&Eric on DAYS, is about to come to an end. How the heck were we supposed to enjoy their lovemaking, knowing they will soon be kaput? A good soap would NEVER telegraph that ahead of time, they would let us think our couple is finally happy, and THEN put an obstacle in their way. Ericole was doomed the minute Nicole shredded that evidence, and we all knew it. Not to mention DAYS makes it look like Eric would have chosen the church if he’d had the chance. It’s hard to believe the soap that gave us Doug&Julie, Bo&Hope, Patch&Kayla, Jack&Jennifer, Sami&Lucas, John&Marlena, etc. etc. doesn’t know how to write a good love story any more.

    • sands of time

I know they’re young, but I think JJ and Paige show a lot of promise!

      • vivien

they don’t do anything for me, but I like the new Ben. ;)

  • Dianne Barnes

Y&R sucks, they need to fire JFP, when they do and bring back the real adam Michael Muhney I will come back and so will the other 1,000,000+ viewers

    • sands of time

She fired David Tom as Billy.

      • don

        YES SHE DID

  • Dianne Barnes

yes she did and tried to rehire Billy Miller, he probably told her to piss off, CBS needs to get rid of her before they lose more viewers, I saw where billy was going to be replaced with a guy from Army Wives, phylis is replaced also, they (CBS) need to see the real deal before we lose another soap to non-viewers

  • don

JILL FARREN PHELPS NEEDS TO STEP DOWN SHE HAS THE AGE TO TAKE HER RETIREMENT SO I SUGGEST SHE TAKES IT AND LET SOMEBODY ELSE DO TAKE THE CHARGE SHE DID EVERYTHING SHE COULD AND FAILED SHE DOES ONE MISTAKE AFTER ONE MISTAKE NOW IT TIME TO STEP DOWN. JLL YOU HAVE THE FLAME ANYMORE U GAVE EVERYTING U GOT DID NOT WORK AND NOW IT IS TIME TO GO IF U DON’T YOUR SUPERIORS WILL FIRE YOU. DO THE SHOW A FAVOR LEAVE IT SIMPLE AND DOES NOT COST ANY DIME.
