On the Thursday, October 15, 2026 episode of ‘Beyond the Gates’, the Duprees ended up having to clean up an even bigger mess after Martin’s press conference, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Ted (Keith D. Robinson) discussed the latest excellent adventure, and Heather (Ashley Jones) set her sights on condos…and Hayley (Marquita Goings).
Careless World
Martin (Brandon Claybon) began his speech at Orphey Gene’s, speaking of how Smitty had been arrested over a false accusation. As Smitty, Anita, and Nicole watched a live feed from the Dupree mansion, Shanice (Ernestine Johnson)was tuned in at the hospital, and Ted was upset to only just learn of Smitty’s detainment, disillusioned that his former in-laws hadn’t informed him. Heather, on the other hand, was at Uptown, directing a reporter at the presser to lob certain questions.
Indeed, Martin’s campaign manager, Shonda, had to shut Martin down after the reporter accused him of glossing over a drug-induced homicide charge and suggested that his voters couldn’t trust him because of it. Smitty (Mike Manning) was horrified and wished he’d never heard of The Impaler, while Dani (Karla Mosley) put it together that the specific accusation was now public knowledge. Martin took a call from Ted, telling his dad he’d kept quiet because he hadn’t want to disrupt his and Shanice’s bliss.
Housequake
Dani tried to avoid Bill, but they ended up talking, and Bill was shocked to hear that Hayley had been to the diner. Bill was certain that Hayley would be out of the DMV any moment, now that she had received her payday. Talk turned to Bill’s birthday, and Bill and Dani laughed over Chelsea having created a dating profile for him. Bill wanted a birthday hug; Dani gave him a quick one, but Vernon saw their interaction from across the eatery.
Smitty fretted to Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Anita (Tamara Tunie) that his ambitions as a journalist were now crushing Martin’s dream of doing good as a Congressman. The confrontational reporter caught hell from Shonda, then received notification from Heather that he was to bank an extra $10,000 for the way he’d gone after Martin. Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) announced that everyone needed to amass at the Dupree mansion for a strategy session.
U.N.I.T.Y.
Seeing everyone, Smitty assumed the goal of the meeting was to figure out how to salvage Martin’s career, but he learned that its purpose was to determine how to prove Smitty’s innocence. As Dani theorized that The Impaler simply wanted to discredit Smitty instead of killing him, Smitty got a call from his editor, telling him that his nomination for the journalism award he had received had been rescinded based on recent events.
Naomi decided to call in a digital forensics team, since the police station hadn’t been able to establish that the video showing Max giving Smitty the drugs that were found in Lia’s cell was a deep fake. Vernon decided to use his FBI contact to find Max, who had gone AWOL after leaving Witness Protection. Naomi wanted a second autopsy performed on Lia, and Martin suggested that The Impaler had someone on the inside at the prison. Smitty was overwhelmed by the love and support shown by his family.
They Say I’m Different
Ted found Bill at the country club deleting pictures of Hayley from his phone. Bill understood Ted’s dismay at being out of the loop in terms of situations affecting the Duprees. Ted decided that Bill would be invited to his wedding to Shanice, and Bill briefly questioned the speed of their plans owing to his bad experience with Hayley. Bill toasted to Ted’s future happiness with Shanice, though both men still seemed disappointed that they were each Dupree afterthoughts.
Prophets Of Rage
Joey (Jon Lindstrom) wasn’t happy that Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) was ready to show Heather condos. Vanessa could see that something was bothering Joey, but when she asked into it, he only told her about Hayley’s attempt on Bill’s life – and that Hayley was Randy’s cousin. After the shocked Vanessa left, Joey received a call from Vernon, who hipped him to Hayley’s appearance at Orphey Gene’s. Joey promised that he would see to Hayley…non-violently.
Hayley was drinking at Uptown, where Heather approached her about the crimes she’d committed against Bill. Heather swore to the questioning Hayley that no one had sent her – she was simply intrigued by Hayley’s story; Hayley was unnerved to learn that Heather already knew her name. Vanessa arrived and flamed Hayley for her plot against Bill, but when Hayley spat that at least she didn’t have to pay men for attention like Vanessa had done, Heather had to keep Vanessa from attacking Hayley.
Can’t Truss It
As Vanessa and Heather left, Hayley was stunned to learn that Heather was Joey’s brother. Later, Heather sat with Vanessa at the diner and announced that she was ready to bid on the very first condo Vanessa had shown her. Vanessa tried to delay the eager Heather, but Heather insisted. Meanwhile, Joey tracked down Hayley, who affirmed she had only been at Orphey Gene’s to pick up biscuits, not to leak Dupree secrets to the reporters present.
Joey told the story of a beautiful painting and intimated that it would be a shame for any work of art to be destroyed. Hayley took the meaning and told Joey that she’d be heading out of D.C. any day. Afterwards, Vanessa met up with Joey at the casino and revealed how Heather had refused to take no for an answer regarding the condo she wanted…an accommodation situated just three blocks away from Joey’s.
