On the Monday, October 5, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Dani (Karla Mosley), Andre (Sean Freeman), Martin (Brandon Claybon) and Jacob (Jibre Hordges) turned out to be party poopers, while Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) had Randy’s number, and Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) introduced the controversial new lady in his life.
Dread In The Mountain
Smitty (Mike Manning) fretted over the connection he had to Lia’s death and wasn’t eased when Martin said that his campaign was working on keeping his opponent from spreading the news about it around. Ready to head to the Duprees’ tailgate party, Martin wanted to focus on “football and fun,” and got his wish when Tyrell arrived in his Banneker University colors…and loads of laundry. Samantha (Najah Jackson) cracked that Tyrell had finally gotten some style since leaving home.
At the mall, Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) had a hard time getting into the mood for a party because of the suspicions against Smitty, which Naomi judged as bogus. Jacob acknowledged that he had to follow through on Smitty being the last one to see Lia alive, but suggested he and Naomi drop their work roles for the day. Naomi agreed and brightened, telling Jacob she loved him. Jacob replied by kissing Naomi.
All That I Got Is You
Dani took a shot at Deanna, explaining how she fought with her own mother when she left home at 17 to become a model, and with Chelsea when Chelsea quit modeling. Inspired by Dani’s admission that she had almost lost her mother that year, Deanna returned to Vanessa and confessed that her anger had only come out of her fear of losing Vanessa, the way she had Doug. Vanessa was floored when Deanna pleaded with her to leave Joey for her safety.
Hood Interrogation
Bill told a concerned Joey (Jon Lindstrom) how Hayley was using the cover-up everyone had perpetrated to protect Martin against him. Despite Bill’s assurances that the situation with Hayley was handled, Joey wasn’t convinced and wanted to know if Bill had any information on Hayley that they could use. Just as Bill concluded that Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) would be a good source for intel, Randy entered and found himself ambushed by an angry, questioning Bill.
Randy stuck to his story that he’d met Hayley when she’d miscarried, but Bill spat that there’d been no baby. Bill threatened Randy, growling that Randy had been sleeping with Hayley under his nose, so Joey sent Bill out for a walk. Randy kept claiming innocence to Joey, who reiterated that he hadn’t wanted Randy’s issues to become his own. Now Hayley was his problem, and Joey warned Randy that Hayley was a “dead woman walking.”
Party Poops
At the Dupree mansion, Shanice gushed that her brothers would be “so jealous” that she was going to a Banneker game. Andre was still annoyed with Dani for risking her life to save Bill; though they did their best to hide their tiff from the other guests, Anita (Tamara Tunie) picked up on the tension. Izaiah (Lami) came upon Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Elon (Malachi Malik) in heavy conversation and assumed they were talking about the attempted murder charges against Hayley being dropped.
Vernon gently chided Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) for blabbing to Izaiah; Chelsea shrugged that she didn’t realize “family” meant Izaiah. Tyrell couldn’t wait to show off his new girlfriend… who turned out to be Francesca Belleclaire (Madison Alsobrook), the girl who had tried to embarrass Samantha at the cotillion. Samantha lunged at “Chessy,” but Anita had everyone line up for pictures to defuse the moment.
To Be Young, Gifted, And Black
Jacob tried to chat normally with Martin and Smitty, but Martin wasn’t having it and accused Jacob of persecuting his husband. Later, Martin apologized to Naomi, and Smitty was anxious for the truth of his guiltlessness to come out sooner rather than later. Izaiah and Elon had a spirited debate over which football team was better, and the two placed a friendly wager on who would win. Then, Kat (Colby Nixon) and Izaiah carried on, and Jacob, Chelsea, and Naomi all commented that they looked like a couple.
Anita overheard Vernon telling Elon that “the news would come out sooner or later,” so Vernon was forced to tell her about Hayley’s blackmail involving Martin. Vernon promised he would “neutralize the threat” after Anita fumed that the entire family’s fate was in Hayley’s conniving hands. Afterward, Vernon gathered the partygoers and gave a speech about Banneker University celebrating its 175th anniversary, and how the institution mattered not only to Black culture as a whole but to their family, since Tyrell was the fifth generation of Duprees to attend.
Make It Work
While everyone else was in party mode, Vernon called Anita, Elon, and Ted (Keith D. Robinson) into the dining room, leaving Martin and Jacob wondering why they were huddling. Elon feared for his career and his marriage if the truth of the cover-up got out, saying he didn’t have resources to handle the fallout like the Duprees had. Both Anita and Vernon felt that Bill had a score to settle and wouldn’t let things get that far.
The party bus was ready to shuttle the Duprees and extended Duprees to Banneker. Martin helped round everyone up and came upon his grandparents talking about a problem that needed solving. Anita quickly said Leslie was back trying to get her “shouse” built, and the others agreed. That settled, everyone got on the bus and sang Banneker’s fight song on the way to the game.
