On the Wednesday, October 14, 2026 episode of ‘Beyond the Gates’, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) was still a Libra, Hayley (Marquita Goings) made Leslie’s wheels turn, and both Smitty (Mike Manning) and Martin (Brandon Claybon) seemed poised to fall at the hands of social media.
Just My Paranoia
Bill received notification that his promised prenup funds had been deposited into Hayley’s account, and he let her know as such. Hayley declared that she still needed her clothes and jewelry, which Bill gave her permission to retrieve from his house. She seemed to be regretful and tried to extend the conversation, but Bill hung up – though not before calling Hayley a “gold-digging murderous bitch.” Hayley shrugged it off, and a moment later Leslie showed up on her door.
Leslie delighted in showing Hayley the video of Smitty being arrested, which had somehow leaked online. Hayley, wondering if the clip was AI-generated, thought Leslie was too hateful toward the Duprees, but Leslie convinced her that Smitty’s troubles might be worth rubbing in Kat’s face. When Leslie casually mentioned that she and Hayley could have dinner with Marcel, Hayley became emotional and demanded to know if Marcel had sent Leslie to get something out of her.
Supa Ugly
Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) had taken Samantha (Najah Jackson) to Caffeine Fix before school, but two of her classmates accosted her and laughed about her having a crackhead for a mother and a murderer for a father. Though Nicole dutifully shooed the hecklers away, Samantha felt awful. Surprising Nicole, Samantha decided to go to school anyway.
Meanwhile, at Orphey Gene’s, tensions were thick between Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) because of Jacob having to arrest Smitty. Just as Jacob was saying how torn up he was about it, June (Jasmine Burke) pushed the arrest video in his face and berated Jacob for putting his job over his family. “To hell with your investigation!” June exclaimed before meeting the troubled Samantha, who had ditched school because of how many students had taunted her over Smitty’s situation.
Battle Plan
At the brownstone, Martin tried to comfort Smitty, but he was inconsolable, pondering the possibility of dying in prison after being convicted of killing Lia. Martin’s campaign manager, Shonda, arrived and showed the power couple the leaked video of Smitty at the station; Martin erupted that Jacob had been tasked with keeping the arrest out of the public eye. Shonda wanted to meet with Vernon immediately to strategize about keeping Martin’s political career afloat.
The Duprees were in crisis mode at the mansion, while Martin and Naomi argued about how the other had attacked their husbands. Vernon announced that Martin needed to give a speech denouncing the charges, but Smitty thought it would be unwise for him to stand at Martin’s side, as reporters would likely try to hit him with “gotcha” questions. Smitty decided to stay behind with Anita and Vernon, fearful of what might have happened had Martin or the kids caught whoever had broken in and planted the telltale pills in their house.
Birthday Cake
Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) approached Dani (Karla Mosley), wanting her help with planning a birthday surprise for Bill. Dani begged off out of respect for Andre, which Chelsea understood. Chelsea then presented Bill with a profile she had created for him on a dating app. Bill laughed that his marrying days were behind him, though he and Chelsea still had fun looking through potential matches.
Later alone, Bill remembered Dani gifting him with the bronzed key to his first office the birthday before.
Git Up, Git Out
Jacob became upset when Marcel (Darryl W. Handy) strolled by his desk snarking that Jacob should be looking for divorce lawyers, since he had turned the Duprees against him for detaining Smitty. Leslie sauntered in and also teased Jacob because a Dupree was on the wrong side of the law, then she sat down with Marcel and asked him why Hayley seemed to panic every time she brought him up. Marcel reiterated that Hayley had been an attempted murder suspect, but she was completely off his radar now that she had been cleared of those charges, adding that Leslie was the only woman for him.
Most of the Duprees gathered at Orphey Gene’s ahead of Martin’s address, and Dani was appalled when Hayley suddenly walked in. Vernon confronted Hayley, who said she was only there to retrieve her take-out; Hayley left without her order after Vernon suggested she do so “if you know what’s good for you.” Moments later, Bill arrived, having been summoned by Vernon, and Dani’s face fell.
