“Love of Life,” the beloved classic daytime drama series created by the late Roy Winsor (“Search for Tomorrow,” “The Secret Storm”), which ran for 29 seasons on CBS and produced more than 7,300 episodes, is returning with brand new storylines, though as a scripted audio drama.
The new iteration, spearheaded by Casey S. Hutchison (“Haven Falls”), a leading figure in the fast-growing audio drama space, will feature a mix of new and legacy characters while honoring the show’s rich history. Erik Andrus will serve as co-head writer, reuniting with Hutchison following their previous collaboration, “Forever and a Day.”
Former “Love of Life” associate producer Paul Sladkus has signed on as a consultant.
Premiering September 24, 1951, as a 15-minute series, “Love of Life” initially detailed the story of two sisters, Vanessa Dale, a role originated by the late “Days of our Lives” star Peggy McCay, and Meg Dale, a role originally played by the late Jean McBride from 1951-1958, with Tudi Wiggins taking over from 1974-1980, before the show expanded to include several other complex characters with their own family conflicts and romances.
Throughout its run, several familiar faces starred on the series, including the late John Aniston (“Days of our Lives”), the late Christopher Reeve (“Superman”), and Ray Wise (“The Young and the Restless,” “Days of our Lives”), among others.
Though the original series concluded its run on February 1, 1980, the audio drama adaptation is set to begin production in March 2027, with further details, including casting and release plans, to be announced in the coming months.
