On the Friday, September 4, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) had technology to thank, Deanna (Angela Fairley) discovered a red herring, and Heather (Ashley Jones) dug her way further into Fairmont Crest society.

My Type Of Party

In Seoul, South Korea, Dani (Karla Mosley) awoke with a start and began her morning preoccupied, which Andre (Sean Freeman) noticed when he emerged from his shower. Dani lied, saying she was just trying to figure out how to occupy herself in the city while Andre worked on his photo shoot.

Back in the DMV, Chelsea’s phone blew up with a story claiming the ChelseaKat had been unprofessional in suddenly ditching their partnership with Takahashi. Ted (Keith D. Robinson) saw Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and got an update on how she and Kat had had to cut ties with the Japanese company because of rumors that it ran sweatshops. Soon after, Chelsea got a call from Dani, who had a strange feeling something was wrong with Bill; since Naomi was unavailable for legal advice, Dani implored Chelsea to seek some from Bill and check on him at the same time.

When Andre was done for the day, he came back to the hotel, where Dani showed him another bottle of the same vintage they had been receiving that had shown up in their room. Andre began frantically looking around for an accompanying card, insisting he wanted to know who to thank, but when he called the front desk to ask about it, Dani took the phone out of his hand and hung up, saying they should simply enjoy the bubbly from their mystery benefactor.

Mourn You Til I Join You

In Fairmont Crest, Bill became woozy after drinking Hayley’s smoothie and collapsed on the floor. Hayley (Marquita Goings) came upon him and kicked his foot to make sure he was unconscious, then texted Randy that “it” was “done, done.” She stepped away, but when she came back, Bill had woken up and seated himself on the couch. Bill acted as if nothing had happened, and when he asked why Hayley was so befuddled, she quickly claimed she was still upset about their housekeeper letting Leslie into their home.

Bill got a call from Chelsea and decided to meet her at the country club, though he wobbled as he readied to leave. Sitting down with her father, Chelsea explained the problem with Takahashi and apologized for not telling him sooner, as she had wanted to spare him further stress. Bill stated that he was in top shape, and Chelsea was glad, especially since Dani had wanted to know how he was doing.

The Knowing

Deanna sat in a booth at Orphey Gene’s next to the box of Doug’s belongings, clutching an envelope marked “Cause of My Death.” Wanting to “talk” to “Doug,” Deanna actually called his number but got someone else.

At Joey’s condo, Heather couldn’t stop gleefully making insinuations that Joey (Jon Lindstrom) had killed Doug so he could have Vanessa for himself. For a moment, it seemed that Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) had overheard, but she simply came in to tell Joey that Deanna had texted and wanted her to see something she had found amongst Doug’s belongings.

After Vanessa went back to the bedroom to get ready, Heather smirked that she had killed people, too, which was why she and Joey should be business partners. Joey continued to balk at the notion, and Heather sing-songingly hoped that no one would find out the truth about what had happened to Doug, delivering an implied threat.

Once Vanessa left, Joey warned Heather not to go toe-to-toe with him, prompting her to wonder if his angry face was the last thing Doug had seen – like it had been what their father had last seen. Joey grabbed Heather and threw her out the front door, but Heather said she still loved him.

Life Goes On

Reluctantly following Joey’s orders to find out what Deanna had in her possession, Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) approached her at the diner and engaged her in a conversation about his best friend. Deanna was just about to show Randy the envelope when Vanessa walked in; Randy excused himself but texted Joey that his intel mission had been interrupted.

Deanna announced that she wasn’t returning to college, which infuriated Vanessa, who assumed Deanna was dropping out because of her new relationship with Noah. Correcting her mother, Deanna shoved the envelope at her, explaining that “Cause of My Death” was the name of a museum exhibit she and Doug were supposed to have visited. It had reminded Deanna how short life was, and that was why she wanted to remain at home instead of returning to Banneker.

When Deanna spoke of how she had tried to call Doug, Vanessa admitted she had released Doug’s number, and that set Deanna off – to Deanna, Vanessa was all about trying to erase Doug, as she had by getting involved with Joey so quickly. Deanna accused Vanessa of doing nothing when it was obvious Doug had been spiraling, then ignored Vanessa’s demand that she resume her education, spitting that she was old enough to make her own decisions. In her upset, Deanna nearly slipped that she had been in communication with “Doug.”

Vanessa was a wreck when she got back to Joey’s; he gently pressed about what Deanna had found and learned about her museum plans with Doug. Seeing that he was still a bone of contention between Vanessa and her daughter, Joey offered to break up with Vanessa, who insisted that she loved Joey…and that nothing was ever going to change that.

Medicine Man

Ted spied Bill at the club and asked how he was doing health-wise. Bill said he was feeling great but honestly didn’t know if his installed pacemaker was making any difference. Ted explained that the device was designed to give the heart a quick jolt should the muscle beat too slowly — Bill had forgotten about the app he was supposed to use with the pacemaker and agreed to install it on his phone once Ted reminded him.

Later, Ted wrapped up a call with Shanice, assuring her that everything would be fine when he met her brothers. Heather came over to chat, and he said he was planning something to benefit his sweetheart, though it might require getting through to some difficult people. “You know what I do to difficult people?” Heather grinned. “I kill them.”

Almost Doesn’t Count

Randy showed up at the Hamiltons’ house, wondering what he was supposed to do with Bill’s body. When Hayley relayed Bill’s resurrection, Randy castigated her for not checking his pulse before declaring victory. Randy feared that Bill was flipping the script on them, pretending to have nearly died to test Hayley, and worriedly suggested they begin forming an exit strategy. Just then, Hayley caught Bill about to come in via a security app and rushed Randy out a different door.

Acting as if she was just entering from another room, Hayley came upon Bill going through her purse. She snatched it away, but Bill said he was just looking for his discharge papers so he could learn how to use his pacemaker app. Hayley gave Bill the documents and breathed a sigh of relief that he hadn’t found her bottle of poison. Bill was amazed that the app tracked his heart rate in real time.
