On the Friday, September 11, 2026, episode of “Beyond the Gates,” Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) chose between family and love, Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) scored a victory, and Hayley (Marquita Goings) riled up Tomas (Alex Alegria).
What’s Happening, Brother?
Shanice summoned her brothers, Lamont (Denzell Dandridge) and Cedric (Khiry Walker), to Orphey Gene’s. No sooner did they start warning Shanice off of Ted (Keith D. Robinson) than Ted himself appeared, clearly having worked with Shanice to orchestrate the moment. Lamont refused to talk to Ted and told Cedric they were leaving, but Shanice demanded that her brothers sit their “scrawny little butts down,” because what Leslie had said to them about her affair with Ted had been designed to make Ted look bad.
Lamont was the most vocal, insisting that Shanice shouldn’t have to deal with Ted’s baggage. Ted acknowledged his wrongdoing and said he was trying to make amends by building a relationship with his daughter, Eva, and by swearing he would never cheat on Shanice. When Cedric and Lamont still wouldn’t budge, Shanice called them “damn fools” and told them she would choose Ted over them. Once alone, Ted marveled over the way Shanice had stood up for him and decided her feistiness was “hot.”
Love Lies
From his office, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) began to text Dani (Karla Mosley), though his hand shook. He and Dani entered into a playful exchange, which was interrupted when Andre (Sean Freeman) came back to his and Dani’s hotel room, having wrapped up his final photo shoot in Seoul. When Dani kept getting notifications on her phone, she was forced to admit that she had been messaging Bill, which did not please Andre. Dani managed to relax Andre with a spa treatment and lovemaking, though Andre noted that they would be going home the next day.
Bill remembered Naomi’s words about Hayley lying that she’d had an ultrasound. When Hayley entered the office, Bill asked her about it, and Hayley confirmed what Naomi had said, that she was afraid to find out what an ultrasound would have revealed. Bill continued, telling Hayley that he knew “Sammy”’s name was really Randy and lamenting that he’d caught Hayley in yet another lie.
Contempt of Court
At Uptown, Naomi told Madison (Kenjah) and Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) that Mike’s refusal to hand over evidence detailing his client’s online movements could result in Madison’s case being dropped entirely. Chelsea was ready to celebrate, but Madison was more anxious. After they went home to cuddle, Chelsea admitted that supporting Madison took her mind off of Allison – she knew Allison was in jail, but couldn’t help feeling that she hadn’t seen the last of her.
Before Bill and Hayley could resolve their issue, Mike (Pierce Lackey) entered with Naomi, and the four sat down for the virtual motion-to-compel hearing before a judge. Naomi maintained that the digital footprint of Mike’s client would determine whether or not the woman had gotten the information that had made her child sick from a different website besides Madison’s mother’s. Mike tried to argue invasion of privacy, but after Naomi shared her suspicion that Mike was targeting Madison because she was the fiancée of Bill’s daughter, the judge gave Mike 24 hours to turn over his evidence.
Double Up
Tomas shared a meal with Kat (Colby Nixon) at the country club, griping about Bill shutting him out of Madison’s case in favor of Naomi. Kat downplayed his concerns and presented him with a prototype of the latest ChelseaKat bag so he would give it to his grandmother in Puerto Rico. Frustrated that Kat wasn’t listening to him, and knowing that Kat was hoping to connect with an influencer in his home territory, Tomas accused her of using his grandmother and walked out on her.
Eva (Ambyr Michelle), who had gone to Uptown to meet with a supplier, ran into Tomas, who was gulping down a double, and offered to hear him out. After Tomas explained his troubles with Naomi, Eva reasoned that he was putting Kat in a difficult position by expecting her to side with him against her cousin. Plus, Eva added, Kat had never had to fight for anything, so she couldn’t relate to Tomas’ struggle. Tomas smiled that Eva understood him, and Eva reassured him that Naomi would likely return to her own practice once the suit with Madison was over.
Izaiah (Lami) found Kat and sympathized with ChelseaKat’s problems with Takahashi, the manufacturer accused of using sweatshops. Kat ended up giving Izaiah the prototype purse – he wanted to gift it to Eva, but Kat hoped that Izaiah’s mother Darlene would end up being the recipient. Regarding Tomas, Izaiah made the point that he was probably more upset about his work problems than about Kat, and that the lawyer had likely wanted assurances from her that Naomi wasn’t a threat to his job.
Later, Eva and Izaiah met up and told each other about their respective talks with Tomas and Kat – though they had each come away with slightly different, biased versions of the couple’s tiff. Despite that, Izaiah and Eva agreed that their pairing was much healthier, with Eva commenting that Kat and Tomas were “the opposite of relationship goals.”
Stir the Pot
Bill and Naomi were ecstatic about their victory over Mike, unaware that Hayley was outside the door listening as Naomi gently rejected Bill’s offer to join his firm full-time. Naomi asked her father if he had talked to Hayley about the nonexistent ultrasound; he said he had, but that they were in the middle of handling the revelation.
As she walked into Uptown, Hayley texted Bill, lying that she was running errands. She saw Tomas at the bar and rolled her eyes, saying that Naomi had “won the day” regarding Madison. After fuming over how Naomi had declared war on her marriage, Hayley warned Tomas not to let his guard down around her. While Naomi claimed she didn’t want to join the firm, Hayley went on, Naomi was manipulative just like her mother and was wrapping Bill around her finger. Tomas stiffened when Hayley predicted that Naomi would steal everything he had worked for if he wasn’t careful.
