On Monday, June 1, “General Hospital” taped its 16,000th episode at the show’s Prospect Studios-based set, featuring a cake-cutting celebration and plenty of photos, with the soap sharing a behind-the-scenes look at all the festivities on social media.
In a video posted to Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), among other platforms, eagle-eyed fans noticed a new, yet familiar face on set, that being actor Dean Geyer, best known for his portrayal of Brody Weston on “Glee,” Mark Reynolds on “Terra Nova” and Ty Harper on the Australian soap opera, “Neighbours.”

According to TV Insider, Geyer has been cast in the contract role of Tristan Roberts, a name that sounds remarkably similar to that of one of the show’s most iconic cast members, the late Tristan Rogers, the Australian actor who played Robert Scorpio on the series over several decades, starting in 1980. Rogers sadly passed away on August 15, 2025, after a battle with lung cancer.
Though the show has not formally written a storyline acknowleding the passing of the beloved actor’s character, the show’s head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, have publicly stated that they will address his passing on-screen with a storyline at some point, saying in an interview, “He is sorely missed, and we aim to pay tribute to Tristan and Robert the same way that we did for Leslie [Charleson] and Monica [Quartermaine].”
The South African-born Geyer, whose more recent credits include roles in “9-1-1” and “Zoey 102,” a follow-up to the original Nickelodeon series “Zoey 101,” began taping at “General Hospital” with the show’s 16,000th episode of “General Hospital,” which is scheduled to air on Monday, July 13, though it’s unclear at this time whether that date will officially mark his first appearance on the soap, particularly as the long-running ABC series generally tapes by scenes, not episode number.
Also appearing on the set during the milestone taping on Monday were veteran cast members Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), each of whom had taken time off from the show in recent months, resulting in their characters being written off canvas. Return air dates for Burton and Hughes were unknown at press time.
