“Beyond the Gates” stars Daphnée Duplaix (Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson), Ambyr Michelle (Eva Thomas) and Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana “Leslie” Thomas), as well as the show’s executive producer Sheila Ducksworth, will each appear as guest speakers during the 116th NAACP National Convention, which is set to take place from July 12-16 in Charlotte, NC., with this year’s theme being “The Fierce Urgency of Now.”
On Wednesday, July 16, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, ET, Ducksworth will take part in the panel “Our Culture, Our Stories: Writing Our Own Narrative.” She’ll appear alongside Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, who is also an executive producer on “Beyond the Gates.” Later that evening, Duplaix will take part in the “An Evening of Excellence Awards Dinner.”
Although their names do not currently appear on the convention’s agenda page for any specific event, Michelle and Mann-Grant are scheduled to appear on Saturday, July 12, according to material shared by the organization on social media.
According to organizers, the convention is an “empowering and immersive experience held each year to celebrate our community’s collective power.” Further, it “attracts innovative change-makers, thought-leaders, entrepreneurs, scholars, entertainers, influencers, and creatives to network and exchange ideas.”
The NAACP is a producing partner for “Beyond the Gates,” with Ducksworth also serving as president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture.
