A post made by the “Days of our Lives” social media team on Monday seemingly gave fans of the daytime drama series the wrong idea when the show’s Instagram page shared a behind the scenes video of actor Patrick Muldoon (“Melrose Place”) wandering around the show’s studio, having played Austin Reed on the soap opera from 1992-1995, and again from 2011-2012.
“Listen, I just got off the 101 South in Burbank … Oh, my God. I’m in Salem. It feels good to be back,” Muldoon says in the video, where he can be seen opening a door leading out of Studio 4, one of two studios used by the soap opera at The Burbank Studios in Burbank, CA.
The caption for the post read, “Who is that wandering around Salem…and why?!”
Unfortunately, according to Soap Opera Digest, Muldoon has not, in fact, returned to the show as a featured player but was “back” at the studio providing a tour to a friend, per a show spokesperson.
“The show’s video post touting his presence at the studio was tongue in cheek,” the outlet reported in an update to its original story, which implied Muldoon had returned to the show.
That said, based on how it was presented, one could surmise why fans, and even some in the media, would have believed Muldoon was reprising his role as Austin Reed, particularly as the show continues to highlight several fan favorites who’ve returned during the show’s current 60th anniversary season.
