On Thursday, February 20, the Paley Center for Media hosted a screening of the premiere episode of “Beyond the Gates,” followed by a panel discussion following the screening, moderated by “CBS Mornings” featured host Vladimir Duthiers.
In attendance were cast members Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree) and Daphnée Duplaix (Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson), along with executive producer Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture which is producing the series for CBS.
Presented by Citi, the Black History Month Experience celebrated the show being the first-ever one-hour Black daytime soap opera and the first new daytime drama in more than 25 years.
During the discussion after the screening, Sheila Ducksworth emphasized that soap operas are here to stay. As the executive producer, she spoke about how the show came about, from her love of the genre and wanting to see more representation in her favorite type of shows.
