NBC Orders Untitled Comedy Pilot Starring and Executive Produced by Reba McEntire

Country music superstar Reba McEntire is returning to the scripted game with an untitled multi-camera comedy that was recently given a pilot order at NBC.

Reba McEntire is getting back into the comedy game.

NBC recently ordered a multi-camera pilot that will star the actress and country singer that also reunites her with former “Reba” executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis, who will all serve as executive producers on the potential series alongside McEntire and Julie Abbott.

In a logline released by the network, McEntire will play a character named Reba who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.

The United Reba McEntire Project is the first pilot ordered for the 2024-2025 broadcast television following the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that impacted Hollywood for over five months.

McEntire’s re-entry into scripted television comes a year after the cancellation of the ABC drama “Big Sky,” which ran for three seasons on the alphabet network. McEntire took over as the show’s lead, playing Sunny Barnes during season three and worked alongside real-life boyfriend Rex Linn, who played her character’s husband, Buck.

Outside of acting, McEntire is gearing up for her second consecutive season as a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” which is set to premiere with its 25th season on Monday, February 26. Along with the music legend, the show’s returning coaches include John Legend and Chance the Rapper with country superstars Dan+Shay rounding out the team as show’s first coaching duo.

From “2001-2007,” McEntire starred as Reba Hart in the hit comedy series “Reba,” which ran for six seasons across The WB and The CW, becoming among the highest-rated shows on both networks. In 2012, McEntire starred as Reba MacKenzie in ABC’s “Malibu Country,” another comedy series that did better than expected numbers as part of the network’s Friday night lineup.

Over the years, McEntire has appeared in numerous television shows, including a recurring role on “Young Sheldon,” “Baby Daddy” and Last Man Standing,” among others.

In 2023, she starred as Kim Wheeler in the Lifetime movie “The Hammer,” which followed an attorney later appointed as a judge for Nevada’s 5th district after the former judge’s death. The movie was inspired by the real-life story of Kim Wheeler, one of the last traveling judges in the United States.
