THE NUMBERS

The week of October 9-13, 2013 saw the season premiere of CBS’ “The Talk,” which also marked the first time in five months that the daytime talk show aired original episodes. In fact, the week also marked the first time since mid-May that we are able to report ratings data for all programs that make up the daytime broadcast schedule (the game show half hours are counted separately).

Compared to the same week last year, “The Talk” was flat in both Women 18-49 (0.2 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.3 rating), tying for last place in both demographics. The show was down year-to-year in Households (0.9 rating vs. 1.0 rating) and in Total Viewers (1.308 million vs. 1.443 million). The show still managed to beat an improved “NBC News Daily” (1.225 million) in Households (0.9 rating vs. 0.8 rating) and Viewers (1.308 million vs. 1.225 million).

On Tuesday, October 10, the broadcast networks aired live coverage of remarks made by President Joe Biden on the Hamas attack on Israel. As a result, “NBC News Daily,” “General Hospital” (1.969 million) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.414 million) were amended. In the case of “GMA3,” the news program was amended and broken out (see notes below). Meanwhile, “General Hospital” fell below the two million viewer mark for the first time since mid-September, this time without any documented subscriber disputes between a major cable/satellite service and an owner of major affiliate stations used as a fallback. Despite that, the show still managed to increase its viewership from the same point in 2020, adding +45,000 viewers.

The Price is Right” (3.717 million / 4.225 million), “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.191 million / 2.567 million), “TODAY 3rd Hour” (2.060 million) and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” ( 1.497 million) were the only shows to see significant improvement among Total Viewers compared to last week, adding +100,000 or more viewers week-to-week. Additionally, “The View” (2.316 million), “TODAY 3rd Hour” and NBC News Daily” were the only shows to see improvement compared to the same week last year.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of October 9-13, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2022, 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance breakdown in the demos, can be read here.

Note*: Officially, the demo ratings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” 2021 and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives,” which moved to Peacock exclusively beginning September 12, 2022.
