THE NUMBERS

During the second week of the 2023-2024 broadcast television season (October 2-6, 2023), “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.723 million), “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.396 million) and “NBC News Daily” (1.160 million) were the only daytime shows to see improvement week-to-week in Total Viewers. In the case of the half-hour soap, the show was up +57,000 viewers with the final hour of the “TODAY” franchise was up +59,000 viewers week-to-week. Meanwhile, the “Days of our Lives” time slot replacement was up +47,000 viewers.

Speaking of “NBC News Daily,” the show was up year-to-year among viewers (+91,000) and was flat or up slightly in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, one of just three shows to see increases among the former demo and one of two shows in the latter demo compared to the same week last year. “NBC News Daily” also saw year-to-year improvement among Households, hitting a 0.8 rating (+0.1).

After hitting a season high last week, “The View” (2.320 million) was down week-to-week but still managed to see improvement over the same week last year in Total Viewers (+98,000) and over the comparable week in 2021 (+5,000 viewers). “The View” was also up year-to-year among Households, hitting a 1.6 rating (+0.1).

General Hospital” (2.036 million) and “The Young and the Restless” (3.131 million) were the only daytime broadcast shows to see an increase in Total Viewers compared to their performances during the same week three years earlier (2020). Among the all-important Women 18-49 demo, “General Hospital” once again tied its series low (0.2 rating), primarily due to Nielsen counting two last-minute repeat episodes that aired in West Coast markets on Tuesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 4 – ABC aired Major League Baseball Playoff Games on both days during the show’s regular time slot on the East coast.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of October 2-6, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2022, 2021 and 2020, respectively. **Notable Preemptions/Schedule Changes

  • “General Hospital” was amended on Tuesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 4, due to ABC’s airing of Major League Baseball Playoff Games. Despite the last-minute nature of the network’s scheduling, wherein repeats aired in markets not impacted by sports, the show’s weekly average was counted by Nielsen as five days. As a result, the show tied its series low in Women 18-49 rating (0.2 rounded / 0.18 in actuals).
  • “GMA3: What You Need to Know” was broken out on Tuesday, October 3 and Wednesday, October 4, due to ABC’s airing of Major League Baseball Playoff Games. The show’s weekly average is based on three days (Monday, Thursday and Friday).
  • “NBC News Daily” was amended on Tuesday, October 3. The show’s weekly average is based on four days (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).
