Best known for his portrayal of Ed Bauer on “Guiding Light” (1966-1969; 1997-1998) and Ross Chandler on “All My Children” (1983-1989), veteran soap star Robert Gentry has died.

His death was first reported in the Fall/Winter 2022 issue of SAG-AFTRA magazine as part of the publication’s “In Memoriam” listing which honors the memory of members whose deaths were reported to the actor’s union between July 1 – October 31, 2022.

Gentry reportedly died on Saturday, September 17, 2022. The actor was 81 years old at the time, just 12 days shy of his next birth.

Gentry made his television acting debut in 1965, appearing in the soap opera “The Doctors.” In 1970, he made a name for himself playing Dr. John Carr on the short-lived daytime drama “A World Apart.” He would go on to appear in several other soaps, including “One Life to Live,” “Generations,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives” and “Another World.” In primetime, he had guest appearances in episodes of “Gunsmoke,” “Fantasy Island,” “Matlock” and “New York Undercover,” among others.

The cause of death remained unknown at press time.
