Maurice Benard on Exit of ‘General Hospital’ Co-Star: “It’s Always a Blessing in Disguise”

"I believe when you’re talented it’s always a blessing in disguise," says Maurice Benard on the surprise exit of "General Hospital" co-star Marcus Coloma.

A day after it was confirmed by the show that Marcus Coloma would be exiting “General Hospital” as Nikolas Cassadine late next month, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) took to social media to comment on the exit of his co-star and friend.

In a Twitter post this morning, where he shared a photo of himself standing in front of Coloma with a plaque naming Benard’s “State of Mind” podcast series hanging on the wall, the Daytime Emmy Award winner stated, “I’ve had many close, friends leave General Hospital. Of course it’s always sad, and sometimes confusing.” He added, “I believe when you’re talented it’s always a blessing in disguise I always call @marcuscoloma the filmmaker!!!   Go kick ass buddy.”

Benard and Coloma’s bond outside of work has grown since Coloma took over the role of the gothic prince in 2019. The actors are consistently seen together in social media postings acting out, dancing and having a good time. Coloma has also appeared on Benard’s “State of Mind” podcast on more than one occasion.
