‘Queer As Folk’ Canceled After One Season by Peacock

Peacock has canceled “Queer As Folk,” a reboot of the British TV series of the same name after just one season. The Stephen Dunn created series only produced eight episodes.

It looks like Peacock’s much-hyped reboot of “Queer As Folk” will be one and done. The streaming service has opted not to order a second season of the Stephen Dunn-created series, which premiered in June. Only eight episodes of the series were produced.

Starring Devin WayFin ArgusJesse James KeitelCGJohn Sibilly and Ryan O’Connell, who also serves as a writer and co-executive producer, “Queer As Folk” was a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series of the same name created by Russell T. Davis, who himself also served as an executive producer on the new series. The show follows a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Guest stars included Kim CattrallJuliette LewisEd Begley Jr.Nyle DiMarco and Chris Renfro, among others.

Word of the show’s cancellation came from Dunn, who shared the news on Instagram on Friday night.

“It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as ‘Queer As Folk’. This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season,” Dunn posted alongside a photo of the show’s cast. “We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy and Brenda. We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show.”

In addition to creating and EP’ing the show, Dunn also directed at least three episodes of the series, including the pilot episode. Additional executive producers include Jaclyn MooreLee EisenbergEmily BrechtNicola Schindler and Louise Pedersen on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributes the format and the original British series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4. The show was produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
