THE NUMBERS

The week of September 12-16, 2022 marked the final week of the 2021-2022 television season and the series debut of “NBC News Daily,” which replaced “Days of our Lives” on NBC.

In its first week on the air, “NBC News Daily,” hosted by Kate SnowAaron GilchristMorgan Redford and Vicky Nguyen, averaged just 935,000 viewers, placing it last among Total Viewers and last in both Women 18-49 (tie) and Women 25-54 rating. Compared to the week ago and year ago performance of “Days of our Lives,” “NBC News Daily” was down -744,000 and -762,000 viewers, respectively. In the key sales demos, the news program was also down week to week and year to year compared to the performance of the daytime drama series (see list below).

  • Week to Week: 0.2 vs 0.2 in Women 18-49 rating; 0.2 vs 0.4 in Women 25-54 rating (Unrounded: 0.16 vs 0.24 in W18-49; 0.24 vs 0.37 in W 25-54)
  • Year to Year: 0.2 vs 0.3 in Women 18-49 rating; 0.2 vs 0.4 in Women 25-54 rating (Unrounded: 0.16 vs 0.25 in W18-49; 0.24 vs 0.38 in W25-54)

“NBC News Daily” utilizes the power of NBC News by providing viewers with the latest happenings in national and international news, concentrating on consumers, health, and personal finance reporting intertwined with up-to-the-minute local news coverage. The series debuted on Monday, September 12, 2022, replacing “Days of our Lives” on NBC stations following the daytime drama series’ move to streaming service Peacock. Episodes of “NBC News Daily” are also available on NBC News Now, the network’s free streaming news service and digital channel.

CBS’ “The Talk” (1.354 million) returned for its 13th season and was the only daytime broadcast series to see an increase over its year ago performance among Total Viewers, up +18,000 viewers. Despite the slight uptick in viewers, this is a bad start for “The Talk,” which has been shedding viewers since just before the launch of season 11.

Two weeks into its 26th season, “The View” (2.095 million) remains the most-watched daytime talk show but is down compared to the first two weeks of Season 25 (2.153 million vs 2.344 million). Only time will tell if the additions of Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farrah Griffin will be the secret sauce to another successful season for the veteran talk show.

The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.835 million) had the most significant week to week gain among Total Viewers, up +100,000 viewers, followed by the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.201 million), which was up +76,000 viewers compared to one week earlier, and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.518 million).

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of September 12-16, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted on Thursday. *NBC News Daily week ago, year ago and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.”
