“The Young and the Restless” star Christel Khalil can be seen in the new romantic comedy, “We Need To Talk,” now available to rent or buy on all major digital platforms including Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube and Microsoft Movies & TV, among other platforms. The film will also soon be available to watch on Tubi, the free ad-supported streaming service owned by FOX Entertainment.
In the film, Khalil plays opposite “Big Time Rush” singer/actor James Maslow who plays a video-game influencer with millions of followers he interacts with every day despite his having issues in speaking to people in his real life, including his girlfriend, Aly (Khalil).
According to a logline, Great Scott (Maslow) remains blissfully unaware that he has a problem until one morning Aly tells him, as she’s walking out the door, “We need to talk.” Aly’s comment immediately sends him into a day-long tailspin. Seeking wisdom, advice, and emotional support from his social media network of friends, including Tango (Tray Chaney), Joe (Johnathan Fernandez), his producer, and Amber (Emily Bett Rickards), Aly’s best friend. In a connected world filled with internet trolls and a myriad of online characters from around the world, look for several influencers/gamers who make cameo appearances.

In discussing her involvement in the film, Khalil says, “The wisdom of the (script) was really amazing… it shows how we get caught up in our lives, in our jobs, we forget about the people close to us. It’s important to recognize those people. I think it is a really good lesson, for myself included. Where social media is concerned, and ‘likes’ – ‘It’s all about balance. We need balance in life.’”
The movie was honored with six awards at the FirstGlance Film Festival, including Best Actor and Best Actress, Best Director for Todd Wolfe who also wrote the script, Best Comedy, Best Ensemble, and Best of the Fest. Additional cast members include Chrisdine King, Peter Patrikios and Devin Kennedy. Cameo appearances include “Big Time Rush” singer/actor Kendall Schmidt, influencers Jared Polin and Hip Hop Gamer, and NFL Madden Bowl Champion Chris “Dubby” McFarland, among others.
