As reported this morning, “Zac and Mia” star Tanner Stine has been cast as Joey Johnson, son of daytime super couple Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans), in Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” He replaces James Lastovic who more recently appeared as the character on “Days of our Lives” in December 2020.

Like on-screen sister Abigail Klein who takes over the role of Stephanie Johnson starting with “Beyond Salem,” Stine will also first appear in Chapter 2 of the spinoff series when it returns with five all-new episodes dropping daily starting Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 before later appearing in a few episodes of “Days of our Lives” which are set to air later this year. Stine will appear in a recurring capacity while Klein transitions to the mothership series on contract.

In “Beyond Salem,” Steve and Kayla head to Seattle to visit their children, Joey and Stephanie, as part of an umbrella storyline that’s full of larger-than-life romance, jaw-dropping twists, and high-stakes drama that all connects back to a memorable plot that originated on “Days of our Lives” long ago.

In addition to Stine, Nichols, Evans and Klein, the cast of “Beyond Salem” also includes “Days of our Lives” newcomers Colton Little as Andrew Donovan, Victoria Grace as Wendy Shin, Loretta Devine as Angela and the returns of Eileen Davidson and Christopher Sean who reprise their roles as Kristen DiMera and Paul Narita, respectively. Vincent Van Patten who in real life is married to Davidson, and appeared alongside her during her time on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” will play the role of Phil Hellworth.

Previously announced cast members include Kristian Alfonso as Hope Williams Brady, Peter Reckell as Bo Brady, Deidre Hall as Dr. Marlena Evans, Drake Hogestyn as John Black, Steve Burton as Harris Michaels, Lucas Adams as Tripp Dalton, Camila Banus as Gabi Hernandez, Victoria Konefal as Ciara Brady, Robert Scott Wilson as Ben Weston and Remington Hoffman as Li Shin.

Making his television debut in 2014 in the TV series “The Haunted Hathaways,” Stine is best known for his guest-starring role as Oyster in the Nickelodeon live-action comedy series “The Thundermans.” He appeared in over 20 episodes of the series throughout its four-season run. More recently, Stine appeared in the shows “Betch” and “Impulse.”

In 2018, he co-starred in the film “Run the Race” which followed two brothers in a small Southern town facing escalating problems with two different world views, straining – but ultimately strengthening – the bonds of brotherhood. The film also starred Frances Fisher, Kristoffer Polaha, Mario Van Peebles, Mykelti Williamson and “General Hospital” newcomer Evan Hofer, among others.

Additional credits for the Denver, Colorado-born actor include the TV shows “A Million Little Things,” “Here and Now,” “Teen Wolf” and “NCIS.”
