THE SCOOP

Sean Blakemore is set to reprise his role as Shawn Butler on “General Hospital” nearly five years since viewers last saw the character in prison for scenes with Steve Burton‘s Jason Morgan and Kelly Monaco‘s Sam McCall.

According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, Blakemore has inked a deal with the soap that’ll bring his character back to Port Charles after spending time in Pentonville for shooting Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig), a crime he didn’t commit and was wrongfully convicted, albeit not many know the real truth. As for what’s waiting for him on the other side should he finally be getting out of prison, it’ll be a reunion for the character as he re-connects with his ex, Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry), and their son, TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow). Jordan has since married Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) which might put a wrinkle in Shawn reestablishing his roots in Port Charles upon his return.

Blakemore won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his portrayal. He played the character from 2011-2015 and reprised the role for one episode in 2016 for the aforementioned prison scenes.

At press time, there was no return airdate announced.
