THE SCOOP

Get ready to see a different face for Chance Chancellor on CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” starting the week of November 23.

Actor and musician Justin Gaston (ex-Ben Weston, “Days of our Lives”) will take over the role of Chance from Donny Boaz for a few weeks following the latter actor’s COVID-positive diagnosis.

According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, upon learning Boaz had contracted coronavirus the show tapped Gaston to take over the role temporarily as he is the real-life husband of Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman) who plays Chance’s on-screen love interest. Currently, some of the soaps have been utilizing filming techniques that allow real-life spouses to be place holders for scenes that might require less than ideal physical distance between talent. This situation is different, however, in that the scenes require a different actor altogether.

“I’m happy to say I’ve returned to work and will be back on the air very soon,” said Boaz in a statement on Instagram while announcing his temporary absence. “Thank you for your continued support.”

No word yet on when you’ll get to see Boaz back on screen, but as he noted above, it’ll be “very soon.”
