‘Y&R’ Celebrates 30 Years at #1 with ‘Thank You’ to Fans

CBS' "The Young and the Restless" is on its way to celebrating 30 consecutive years as daytime's most watched daily drama series.

With 1,560 consecutive weeks already under its belt , CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is marking its 30th consecutive year as the #1 daytime drama series.

The feat continued during the week of November 26-30, 2018 (numbers soon-to-be released here on Soap Opera Network), based on Live+Same Day ratings data from Nielsen Media Research. The streak itself began during the week ending December 30, 1988, two years after CBS overall began its own streak as the #1 broadcast network during the daypart.

As a way to celebrate its continued success, stars from the soap are appearing in a “Thank You” video that was released a short time ago.

“The legacy of this show is remarkable,” said Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, CBS Daytime Programs and Syndicated Programs Development. “No other modern day entertainment program in ANY daypart has been the top-rated show for 30 consecutive years. This is an extraordinary feat that could not have been possible without the passion and commitment of the fans, cast, crew and staff. Their support has helped to make CBS’ daytime block the powerhouse that it is.”

Currently in its 46th season, “Y&R” is averaging 4.42 million viewers and is the #2 daytime program overall, only behind CBS’ own “The Price is Right.” The daytime soap is also #1 in the key women demos, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54. Contributing to the network’s continued success in daytime are the aforementioned “Y&R” and “Price is Right,” along with “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Talk.”

Mal Young is the executive producer and head writer of “Y&R.”
