“With this ‘Day of Giving’ across all our networks and platforms, the men and women of Disney|ABC, ESPN and the A+E Networks are answering the call to stand up and support the communities hit hardest by Hurricane Harvey. In 2012, we rallied to support relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy, helping raise more than  $18 million dollars. Now, we stand alongside the residents of Texas and the Gulf states who are battling the floods and devastation of Harvey,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney|ABC, in announcing the initiative earlier this week.

Disney|ABC parent The Walt Disney Company and Houston ABC Owned affiliate KTRK-TV committed $1 million to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief efforts. In addition, donations by eligible Disney employees to the American Red Cross and other qualified organizations involved in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort are to be matched dollar for dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Other “GH” stars taking calls during the “Day of Giving” were Texans Billy Miller (Jason Morgan) and Ashley Jones (Parker ), along with their co-stars Ryan Paevey (Nathan West), Nicolas Bechtel (Spencer Cassadine), Carolyn Hennesy (Diane Miller), Anthony Montgomery (Andre Maddox), Donnell Turner (Curtis Ashford), Brytni Sarpy (Valerie Spencer), Vinessa Antoine (Jordan Ashford), Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos) and Brooklyn Rae Silzer (Emma Drake), among others.

The American Red Cross is still accepting donations for the cause. If you are able to donate, visit redcross.org/abc or redcross.org/disney, call (855) 999-GIVE or text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
