Kicking off the annual “General Hospital” Fan Club Weekend on Thursday, August 3, was an event by actors William deVry (Julian Jerome) and Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillion Quartermaine). Of course, the topic on everyone’s mind was on where things stand between the soap and deVry, whose contract expired on June 30.

Speaking to a room full of fans, as reported by ABC Soaps In Depth, deVry told them, “We still don’t have a deal.” He added, “My last day was June 30. I’m not greedy. It’s open ended. I’m auditioning a lot. We’ll see. I mean, I want to come back. Eventually.”

The actor actually arrived late to the event because he was out auditioning. “I was auditioning for ‘Taken’ on NBC for a recurring role,” said deVry. “He’s a bad guy — surprise, surprise!”

As for his hopes for returning to “GH,” deVry joked that it’s unfortunate that his contract expired “because Sonny’s [Maurice Benard] trying to get out of the business now.” He noted, “really, the only person that can sympathize with him is Julian!”
