ABC is developing a new single-camera comedy from the people behind short-lived "The Real O'Neals": Co-creators Casey Johnson and David Windsor and writer Robert Sudduth, husband of "The Young and the Restless'" Greg Rikaart (Kevin Fisher), whose life together is somewhat the basis for the potential series.

ABC is developing a new single-camera comedy from the people behind short-lived “The Real O’Neals”: Co-creators Casey Johnson and David Windsor and writer Robert Sudduth, husband of “The Young and the Restless'” Greg Rikaart (Kevin Fisher), whose life together is somewhat the basis for the potential series.

The semi-autobiographical untitled comedy centers on a man who, along with his husband and son, moves back to Texas to live with his Mexican-American family, where he struggles to keep step with his family’s deep-rooted traditions. Sudduth, who was born and raised by a Latino family in Texas, shares a son with Rikaart. Sudduth serves as writer on the project with Johnson and Windsor supervising. Johnson and Windsor will also serve as executive producers with Sudduth pulling co-EP duties. ABC Studios is the studio behind the project.

In addition to “The Real O’Neals,” Johnson and Windsor were co-executive producers on ABC’s “Galavant” and “Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23.”

Sudduth has served as a writer on such shows as “Telenovela,” “GCB,” “The New Normal,” “The Crazy Ones,” and “Red Band Society.” He and Rikaart were married in May 2015 surrounded by family and friends. They welcomed their son, Montgomery Argo Rikaart-Sudduth, via surrogate in June 2016.

Deadline first reported the news.
