In 2007, the residents of Llanview were rocked by the sudden death of patriarch Asa Buchanan (Phil Carey). Asa had ties to pretty much every character in Llanview and his death had a different effect on everyone. In August 2007, his funeral was held, prompting many characters to return and the discovery that Asa has another son: David Vickers (Tuc Watkins).
