SON Top 10

SON Top 10 ( — Offline for nearly seven months, only two weeks of data posted, fanbases at war, board members angered. What the heck happened to my SON Top 10? Your questions answered.

What is It?

Soap Opera Network‘s Top 10 Chart (SON Top 10 for short) was a poll created for fans of daytime’s best actors and actresses to vote on who they thought was the best performing talent during a given week. The poll included the best couples and the best soaps. Nearly two years after its demise, it was brought back for members of our SON Community and readers of Unfortunately, certain fanbases stuffed the ballots to such an extent that counting votes made it universally impossible to accurately report the results without either disqualifying said fanbase from participation or hurting the integrity of the Soap Opera Network staff.

Solution and Requirements

After being offline and seemingly banished from the website for nearly seven months, Soap Opera Network‘s staff has worked together on ways they think the polling system could be brought back without causing much harm or drama.

The SON Top 10 will return to the world wide web on Friday, July 17, 2009. Votes can be cast for actors and actresses who appeared on “All My Children,” “As The World Turns,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “Guiding Light,” “One Life to Live,” and “The Young and the Restless” during the week of July 13, 2009. An actor or actress must have appeared on the soap during the polling week in order to qualify for that week’s poll. Votes cast for actors or actresses not appearing during the given timeframe will not count.

In order to cast a vote for the SON Top 10, you MUST be a registered member of the SON Community. We will no longer be accepting votes from non-members. You will not be able to vote without being a registered member, so don’t waste your time. We will no longer be featuring the couples category (or the PC “duos”) in the SON Top 10. We will debut a new poll for couples in August.

( — After a minor delay, the SON Top 10 Poll for the Week of January 12-16, 2009 is now available.

After delays held back the posting of the new Top 10 poll, we have decided to extend the voting period by five hours in order to give everyone an equal amount of time to vote for who they thought was the best for the Week of January 12-16, 2009. Polls will now close on Thursday, January 22 at 4:59 AM, ET/1:59 AM, PT. The Top 10 chart will be posted later that day.

Additionally, we have added Scott Clifton (Schuyler Joplin) to the “One Life to Live” Actors list, and removed Justis Bolding (ex-Sarah Roberts) from the Actress list. Bolding last aired on January 7. We have also added Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) and Hayley Erin (Abby Carlton) to the Actress list for “The Young and the Restless.” Davidson was previously not listed due to an oversight. We welcome Natalia Livingston back to “General Hospital” and the Actress list as she re-joins the soap as Rebecca. Lastly, we have added Bridget Forrester and Owen Knight to the Couples list for “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Natalia Rivera and Olivia Spencer to the couples list for “Guiding Light.”

If you find someone missing from the poll or anyone still listed that shouldn’t, please let us know by emailing us.

Voting for the Week of January 12-16, 2009 is now open.

Eligibility: In order for an actor or actress to be eligible for the SON Top 10, the actor or actress must be on-air during the week covering the voting period. If they do not appear on screen during this period, their votes are not included in final Top 10 Rankings. This includes their eligibilty in the couples category. Couples do not need to be on-screen together, however, to be eligible.

    SON Top 10 Returns!

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 12:47 AM EST | By Errol Lewis

( — After a two year absence, the Soap Opera Network Top 10 poll returns just in time to ring in the new year.

Who is Daytime’s Top Actress? Actor? Couple? Only you can decide as is proud to return to you the SON Top 10.

When the last Top 10 ballot was cast on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 and the last results chart posted on Thursday, November 16, 2006, ABC’s “One Life to Live” was dominating the charts. Renee Elise Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline Williamson) was Daytime’s Top Actress for the 34th week (out of 96 weeks) and David Fumero was Daytime’s Top Actor for the third time in 31 tries. While he ranked a distant number 2 in vote counts at the time, “General Hospital’s” Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) held the record of most weeks in the Top 10 (169) and most weeks spent at #1 (91). Only “All My Children’s” Alicia Minshew (Kendal Hart) and “One Life’s” Michael Easton (John McBain) came close as each held on at 131 and 105 weeks on the chart, respectively. “General Hospital” was daytime’s Top soap as it ranked #1 for a record 73 weeks. “All My Children” was second with 66 weeks spent at #1.

With so much history behind it, it is anyone’s guess as to why we decided to pull the plug on this once popular feature. Look for the SON Top 10 to begin accepting new votes on Friday, January 2, 2009 for episodes covering the week of December 29, 2008 – January 2, 2009.
