Even though it was a bad week for all 4 soaps B&B was up from last year in Total viewers and in the 25-54 demo.Plus Days went from the previous week in the 18-34 demo and the 18-49 demo and DOOL was was up from the previous week in the 18-34 demo.So those 3 soaps have something to be proud of.

    • Paul

      Proud of what?

They are awful especially Days yes they went a tiny in the demos not worth talking about it shows how far Days has fallen that fans to say they should be happy about these ratings.

The other shows doing awful as well i not just highlighting Days i think soon it be the death of the soap opera its seems fan no longer interested in watching soaps anymore like they were three or four years ago.

      • Tammy Bostick

days is horrible this 33 year fan has been done!! Destruction of characters families and the pushing of rope turns my stomach The only reason i would ever tune in again is to see Bos ghost

        • vikky

Tell like it is! Thank you. I tuned in today and it was such a bore!

          • SoapArmageddon

I am now down to two episodes a week.

      • Meanwhile, there’s a collective meltdown in the Riverdale fandom that we have to wait three weeks for the next episode. Audiences are primed to binge on serial drama, and they want new content all the time. A genre that should be able to give it to them is flailing around desperately wondering how to survive. Days is particularly bad as Higley is literally copying scenes from previous episodes with her warmed over copies of Wilson, Bope and now Jack and Jennifer. Then there’s the sexism. Bo wills Hope to Rafe; Abby & Gabi team up in sex slave racial drag to dance for men so Chad can profit. Literally women are treated as the property of men, and they wonder why women don’t want to watch.

        • Ang

I saw the clip of the belly dancing on Twitter. A reminder of why I don’t watch the show anymore. It’s garbage. Dena should never be allowed to write for a Soap ever again.

        • lulu

I don’t disagree but i am not sure Riverdale is the great example..because even for the CW this show doesn’t have great ratings..although on social media there is some buzz about it right now, it is always that..Flash on the same network is a better example of great ratings with plot drive by lot’s of action..And if you want a more soapy (but quite smart with great acting performance..thank you Viola Davis..) How to get away with murder is a great example of smart soapy storytelling with great ratings (personally i can’t wait for iZombie come back on CW, best show by far on this network and i don’t care much about Riverdale..although i don’t mind it either).

          • I was specifically speaking of people being upset that there isn’t a new episode for weeks, which is the kind of impulse daytime soaps used to exploit but have not.

          • lulu

I get what you meant (or so i think..haha) : Riverdale already in few episodes did succeed at building an online fanbase/fandom..something daytime soaps struggle to do..and on that i agree with you.

          • Riverdale and HTGAWM also manage not to be overtly misogynist and actually write stories that deplore the abuse of women. Days, on the other hand, is clearly written by people who believe the abuse, control and degradation of women is sexy and something women want to see. Thank goodness the ratings indicate otherwise.

          • lulu

Prime time tv is more progressive, in touch with its time and self-aware than daytime tv since a lonnnnnnnng time..to be honest. Nothing new here..these daytime soaps are outdated for the most part and that is a problem to reach new audiences..Nothing really new here.

    • Vendi Smith

DOOL is way below 400k in the key demo and way below 100k in the other one.

You are bound to tick up a smidge when you hit that kind of rock bottom.

Shows that can barely stay above 2.0 million have nothing to be proud of.

  • charlie bracken

I’m surprised Y&R Has been Good as late, the flashbacks with Jill and kay were Outstanding. The Scott story is getting under way… The shows only problem is those damn 18-49 demos, they need to get those up.

    • Secret Squirrel

It was almost like Katherine was brought back to life for that story. Great stuff from Sally and Kay. Murphy was a nice surprise. Looking forward to the return of Momma Abbott.

      • charlie bracken

        same here

      • Pete Ra

That was some interesting stuff with Katherine and Philip. And the carefully edited flashbacks were a treat (so not to show Brenda Dickson’s Jill). It would be interesting if they revisited the time Katherine thought she switched baby Philip. What if she really did do that, and the baby just wasn’t Caine?

    • TruthSquad

Y&R has stabilized. This is about the time last year the ratings began to tank and never fully recovered. They may never fully recover but they are stable and have on average 4.5 million total viewers per day. Not a bad number for daytime or primetime. The demos need work but they have stabilized also. To those ready to toss Sally and Kay out after 3 months I hear lots of criticism but very few suggestions. I think those who have watched for a long time like the changes and slower moving stories and newer viewers (maybe younger viewers) prefer the stunts as action. Hopefully the writers can create a balance. I am still in the key demos but not for very long.

      • Bantilau Regnies

The ratings are bad because of Sally. Period.

        • TruthSquad

Is that your contribution to the conversation?

          • Bantilau Regnies

Yes because some of you still need a reality check.

          • TruthSquad

Well thank you so much for that. Speaking of reality, do you have any suggestions for a better writing and producing regime that is currently alive and not retired?

          • Bantilau Regnies

No, I don’t. That’s not my job. The show and its laughable ratings are none of my business. I am a viewer. I am here to watch when the show doesn’t suck too much. Not to fix things because the current HW can’t write a decent story and keep the audience.

          • TruthSquad

That’s funny. So you are just here to criticize and make trouble. Just a very negative and bad energy individual. Good to know .

          • Bantilau Regnies

No, YOU are funny. Viewers are not here to find solutions. They are not responsible if the show is a mess. But please, tell Sally, Mal or Angelica you have solutions, they are probably gonna laugh at your face. And yes, I’ll complain all I want because in my country, people are free to express their opinion. You don’t like it? I couldn’t care less 🙂 The fact you can’t stand different opinions proves how much you are insecure about this show and your own opinion. AGAIN numbers don’t lie. Terrible show = terrible ratings.

          • TruthSquad

So nasty and thick as a brick. I was inviting conversation. You just want to complain.

          • Bantilau Regnies

You’re calling me nasty and you think we’re gonna have a conversation? I don’t need you to give my opinion and AGAIN I’ll complain all I want. The difference between us is I accept the fact you have a different opinion and I don’t need to attack you personally. It’s kinda funny how Sally stans are going nuts just because there are people who don’t enjoy the show. You think the show is great? Enjoy! If you can’t stand the fact that I don’t, YOU are the problem.

          • TruthSquad

            Lol.

          • Bantilau Regnies

To quote your words”is that your contribution to the conversation?”

Enjoy the show. See you next week to celebrate the new low record 🙂

          • TruthSquad

            Celebrating?

          • FoxyRoxyy

You are correct. It is the show’s job to make the show entertaining to you so that you will watch. It is not YOUR job to make suggestions to those getting paid to tell them how to do their job. In fact, the shows cannot and will not accept story suggestions, for legal reasons. Y&R is a huge mess and the ratings show that so many are tuning out. It’s only going to get worse in the coming weeks.

      • charlie bracken

Exactly!! Sally and Kay have done Great in the past few months Given the climate you can’t complain.

        • TruthSquad

In December when Sally and Kay took over the well was left dry. All the stunts had been done and Adam had left leaving a big hole. I agree with some of the critics about the slow pace but I recall a similar slow burn by Passant/Altman/Phelps before Adam ran over Delia and the ratings exploded. I am hoping this is the calm before the storm. We know that Marla Adams return is imminent and she certainly carries a lot of drama and I expect Adam will return in some shape or form in the next sweeps period. A storm is brewing.

          • charlie bracken

Right I remember that but I think the critics also have to remember Pratt left a lot of damage in his wake and Sally and Kay have done wonders in the past few months by cleaning that up as quick as they did you would expect something like this to take months to clean up but It’s happened quicker then some thought. Yep Dina is returning in May which should be interesting too see.

          • Richie

Like I wrote in an above post, I like the pace & esp. the history Sally & Kay are bringing out in the show. Like we said before, it will take about 6 months to really undo Pratts’ stuff. I see progress everyday. I do not know what some of these people on this site want. I truly believe many of them do not watch the show, & are commenting on what they are reading here. Do you agree? Can’t wait for Dinas’ return!

          • charlie bracken

IA I see it too, the pace has been great and the stories have been wonderful. I want to know more about Scott and I see Him working for Victor writing his book, as for Dina that should be interesting…

          • Bantilau Regnies

Pratt again smh. You are obsessed with the guy. Is that Pratt’s fault if Sally doesn’t know the meaning of “balance” ?

      • Richie

Thank you. I’ve been watching since late 70’s, got a VCR when they first came out to record my soaps. Back to what you said is very true. Sally & Kay are still digging out of Pratts’ stuff, that could take up to 6 months. I often wonder if the same trolls who constantly badger Y&R on this site, week after week, actually WATCH Y&R. I mostly skip over reading their posts, as I recognize their names. I like the pace & esp. the history that that they are bringing out in the show.

        • TruthSquad

Y&R has always been about a slow build.

    • truth

But it is the problem : people between 18 and 49 find this show BORING ! And when it bores you, you don’t watch !! Life is too short.

      • charlie bracken

“BORING” you fans have become so Picky anymore, you all want faster paced Crap then the nice character driven stuff we are seeing now is that it? I mean The show IMO is not Boring at all, The pace is fine and the direction is great.

        • truth

But we want BOTH, granted maybe the audience is demanding but hey with all the choices now..we can be !

          • charlie bracken

I would rather have Nice character driven stories then the fast paced Crap we had two Years ago. The fans are too Demanding, you can’t get what you want all the time but Given the choice would you all rather have Pratt come back or have Sally who knows the history and uses It while Pratt doesn’t…

          • truth

I would rather watch something else..lol.

          • truth

And demanding ok, too demanding i don’t know..talented writers exist..And they are really well paid, these writers (who are always the same..) on daytime soaps networks..therefore they can make an effort.

          • charlie bracken

well that’s your choice, mine is to watch what sally and kay are trying to do since the Fans have already Made up their “minds” about who should write their beloved soap..

          • MemphisGuy

Hi. I think you fail to see that using history and using history to drive story are two very different things. When Sally breaks out the flashbacks, it feels random and arbitrary.

  • Vendi Smith

Y&R is sooooo boring under Sally.

GH deserves much better. That show has been so good.

    • Falconcrest

Well, action packed does not translate into good, especially on GH; it is usually hokey, badly acted and over the top. I do agree that the soaps are never going back to those old numbers. They are too dated for today’s viewers who have way too many better options.

    • Richie

I think NBC, (Nothing But Crap) is holding on to Days out of sheer allegiance, not wanting to drop their last soap. But sorry to say, I think this will be their last renewal, unless there are some major changes & ratings upswing.

      • truth

And for now they found nothing better (aka cheaper and wich would give them better ratings) to replace it..simple as that.

    • ctshar

actually US has a much more part-time and flexible work economy now than five years ago, and Fox news is the highest rated cable network because people do watch TV during the day and most of DVR daytime shows (I’m s HUGE family feud fan). Soaps employ hacks who do recycled stories, and until they hire fresh writers, nothing will change.

  • Ang

I thought GH was really good last week. This week has been an absolute train wreck.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Not a surprise that The viewers continue to reject Mal, Sally and Kay’s vision of Y&R. It is so boring! And they are only 2000 viewers from their all time 18-49 low. Expect all time lows in the coming weeks as the typical spring ratings drop happens. This show really needs help. It is so bad!

  • Ida Slapter

Y & R is so boring. A painting on a wall got more airtime than most of the characters this week. The Scotty storyline is underwhelming. Nick and Chelsea are gross together. The Ashley and Ravi storyline is going nowhere. Devon and Hilary, I don’t care anymore.

    • FoxyRoxyy

Couldn’t agree more! Y&R is at a creative low. Having a fake Kay write Jill a letter in the remodeled living room was far fetched. Ravi. Who cares about him. Terrible character and actor. Sally Sussman has been a huge failure. Yeah yeah yeah. It’s only been 3 months. The stories get worse as time goes on, not better. Her vision is so out of touch with 2017 and the falling ratings will only get worse. The show is at an all time low, creatively. The numbers back that up.

      • Secret Squirrel

A “fake” Kay? Anyone who criticizes the Jill and Katherine story shows they know nothing about their history and exposes themselves as a Y&R troll.

        • FoxyRoxyy

Yes – was that not a fake Kay shown from the back writing the letter to Jill? That was not Jeanne Cooper. Oh, and look at the ratings. Obviously I’m not the only one unhappy with the show. And anyone who can’t take criticism on the current state of Y&R can be labelled a troll as well. The numbers are speaking loud and clear that this regime is failing. It’s great that you like the current Y&R but ratings are what matter and they are not good.

          • Secret Squirrel

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Like I said elsewhere, Sally and Kay have only been on the job since December. I’m withholding judgment for a few more months.

          • FoxyRoxyy

Think ahead to what your response will be when ratings are even lower in a few more months. Because it’s gonna happen.

          • Keanna

Oh don’t bother, went through this last week

        • Lorena

Katherine has been dead for years, Why is there a story involving a dead character?

          • Secret Squirrel

You would know the answer to that question if you knew the history of Katherine and Jill.

          • monzo

I wonder if they keep Katherine around because the actress can’t complain about her stupid storyline anymore as she used to do when she was alive. Look at B&B: Stephanie is dead for years, but there are no messages from the grave, maybe because Susan Flannery would tell everybody how awful this is.

          • Bantilau Regnies

She gets more screentime than the half of the cast.

          • TV&MovieBuff

On One Life To Live, the character of Victor Lord wasn’t seen that much but he effected story for years while the character was still believed to be dead. Then of course one of the writers later brought him back from the dead. True soap opera revolving around character can include the impact that character’s death has on the characters still left around. Anyone who knows the back history of Jill and Kay knows that a long dead character Philip Chancellor (Kay’s husband and Jill’s lover) was a huge part of their storyline for years and years after he died.

        • Bantilau Regnies

Yes, a FAKE Kay. The last time I checked, she was dead.

    • charlie bracken

Boring ? I think it’s Been Good IMO the Scott story is ripped from the Headlines, The Kay and Jill stuff was Great the flashbacks were outstanding. The fans have no patience when it comes to the slower moving stories. Thye want faster plot driven stuff that has action and lot less drama behind it.

      • Secret Squirrel

“Fans” that don’t like the current pace and stories that are developing are not true Y&R fans.

        • charlie bracken

          Exactly!! I’m enjoying it

          • Ida Slapter

I’ve been watching Y & R for 40 years, I’m pretty sure I’ve been a fan longer than you. The show sucks right now. Sing me a song Reed lol.

          • Secret Squirrel

Yea you got me beat by about 10 years. And you know what they say about opinions.

          • truth

yep it is that : YOUR freaking opinion, nothing more nothing less so don’t talk about ‘true fans’ it is ridiculous and patronizing..eyeroll.

          • charlie bracken

How can it “suck” We had two years of nothing but plot driven fast moving Crap that Made no sense what so ever and now every fan I see is Moaning and groaning over the fact the stories are moving a bit slower and we have some Great stuff on our screens.

          • Bantilau Regnies

Still better than “nothing but nothing”

        • Bantilau Regnies

I’ve been watching for 24 years and YES the show sucks.

      • MemphisGuy

I suppose I’m in the minority. I’m a fan who does not prefer faster, plot-driven storytelling. I prefer character-driven drama. But Y and R, for me, is incredibly boring. This is not fresh and inventive storytelling. It is trite and, worse, uneventful. Nothing is happening. This is why people are tuning out. I have never had a problem with slower-moving stories that move at the pace of life. Good soap opera has always been the daily interactions of families connected through business and romance. Kay and Sally are giving us stories devoid of drama and conflict. Where are the rivalries? Where is the yearning? Where are the struggles to gain something or get ahead? I do not see any of this. I see Reed chatting it up with a girl he likes. I see Victor and Nikki Newman turning into Chris and Nancy Hughes. I see Faith and Sharon talking. These conversations are not driving story. It reads like fluff and filler. This show’s writing is problematic and indicative of the creative bankruptcy that plagues Kay and Sally’s writing. I do so hope you enjoy the show! I have stopped watching for now. Once or twice a week, it feels like 36 minutes wasted.

        • Secret Squirrel

To each his own. All I would say is Sally and Kay have only been on the job since December. I’m withholding judgment for a few more months.

          • MemphisGuy

I meant in the aggregate. History and ratings have shown that, when Kay and Sally assume headwriting duties anywhere, viewership erodes dramatically. See, for example, the ratings at Days, 1998-99 (Sally) and Y and R, 1998-2000 (Kay).

          • charlie bracken

You got it, I think they are doing well .

        • FoxyRoxyy

          Y&R is SOOOO dull!

          • monzo

Now a bro hug gets a huge storyline at Y&R! What’s next?

        • padange

I’m still watching but I couldn’t agree more. Their problem is lack of drama and conflict. I wonder why that is. Does SSM think every character has to be perfect and likeable? It’s great that she uses the show’s history but that’s not enough for viewers in 2017, especially younger ones.

  • Happy Accidents

Dena gets DAYS its 2nd-lowest week ever in the young women’s demo (W18-34),
(in other words this is a week that is only higher than last week’s new all-time low).
and 5th-lowest week ever in its key demo (W18-49).

Here’s the graph for the least volatile statistic, households:

    • netty

      Thanks for posting!

    • ctshar

NBC should honestly take her crap off-air and instead take a few months from when the show was good, re-air as ‘Days classics’ in the interim. I know that with GH awful now, I wish they’d do the same and of course GH needs new head writers too.

  • dusty

Well no one can blame pre-Emptions for the above ratings. Days was renewed and I do not think Ron will make any difference unless he drastically changes the cast and show to draw in new viewers.

  • Dianne

Hard to believe that in about 2 weeks time BB will turn 30.
At one time under the late Bill Bell I loved this show. Under his son it is garbage – recycled garbage.

  • DanNJ316

I think GH has been great for the past few weeks, since many of the storylines started picking up, it’s a shame the numbers don’t reflect that.

Same stories focuses on strong women being the heroes and not the victims would have been good stories. I enjoyed nutjob olivia but just showing her with her kidnap victims was bad story telling, boring so I skipped those shows. Feels like a writer’s strike on GH right now and the sexist crap infects the entire show right now.

I actually just now discovered you can watch “General Hospital” on HULU …. so I did a marathon of the Feb. 27-Mar. 2 episodes and literally could not look away. I don’t think I’ve watched four back-to-back episodes of GH since 1994 or 1995 when it was brilliant.

So HAPPY this show is finally serving up good stuff after a long drought.

I’m barely watching GH so hulu is nice, doesn’t clog the DVR and if it expires, oh well. Glad you’re liking it, for me, GH’s writers are a mess. The actors and production quality itself are probably the best the show has had in my 4 years watching, but the writing is so bizarre. I do enjoy GH twitter, the fans are VERY funny except a few crazy stans!

I did think it was hilarious that Jason was just magically got sam and the baby back up the bridge. no explanation, just cut to bridge and viola. No explanation, just, alrighty then. The actors are wonderful, I enjoy almost every one of them.

Days: unfortunately we’re at that point now where we’re just counting the months until Ron’s writing starts.

GH, again some of us are watching on different televisions because it has gotten worse, lately. If Ron was doing these over the top things that Jelly’s doing, folks would be storming his Twitter with pitchforks.

Y&R fans, they’re bringing back Dina, Jack and Ashley’s mother, so the one thing you can say about Sally and Kay, they’re going into their history.

    Happy 30th B&B

YR used to be my fav, but it is so boring now. Not sure what they are trying to do with Ravi and Ashley. I don’t hate Nick and Chelsea, I hate the story. No thought put into it. It is just dry. The Hevon divorce signing fell flat to me. It should have been emotional. Nikki and Victor are sliding straight into the nursing home. Cane written as incompetent is crazy because we watched him run the company for months. Someone said Sharon has never been written better. Um….saying I don’t need anyone is not brilliant writing. I can’t stand Victoria anymore and what have they done to Billy? So far, Sally does nothing for me.

So many feel the same way. Sussman has been a dud so far. Her writing is dull. In just 3 months, she’s already brought the show to new all time lows in the most important demo. Nothing interesting is happening and the show gets duller by the week.

I couldn’t agree with you more! The ratings for Y&R don’t surprise me one bit. There’s no balance, slow, tired story, and a complete lack of imagination. There’s literally no one on this cast/canvas that I care about anymore. I wasn’t a big fan of Pratt’s work either, but at least it was more engaging, interesting, and dramatic than all this historical nonsense on Y&R as of late. I’m within the key 18-34 demographic, and I’ve been tuned out and plan to stay that way for the foreseeable future. I got back into GH a little while ago, and have been loving it! I wish the numbers would reflect that a bit more.

A while back, I used to record Days Monday, Tuesday and Friday when the cliffhanger usually took place. But for the last 3 to 4 years, I record and watch every episode, Monday through Friday. If I do not, I miss something that happen. Miss a day, miss something. Word is that Jen Landon, Michael Landon’s daughter is joining Days, good addition since Adrienne Zucker is leaving. I hold my breath till Ron C’s material begins to air because I never experienced his type of writing, but he did win an Emmy for it. Did Deana?
I also noticed that Days did better this week in some demos. Even if they were small gains.

In preparation for the Nor’easter we are expecting – Y&R and B&B are shown on ch. 55 in NYC when 2 is covering news. Stay safe everyone and watch soaps. 🙂

    • FoxyRoxyy

Thanks, but I’d rather watch real news than boring Y&R.

      • TruthSquad

Any suggestion for improving “boring Y&R”? Storylines ? A better writing regime you would like to recommend?

        • Toshi

          Foxy is always trollin.

        • FoxyRoxyy

Well I’m not going to recommend storylines because the show cannot accept story suggestions for legal reasons. That’s a waste of time to dream up what I would like to see happen. As for writers, there are plenty out there. Josh Griffith did a phenominal job with the Delia story; Pam Long is an emmy winning writer; Paula Cwickly; Tracey Thomson; Meg Bennett; Lorraine Broderick; Bob Guza. The list is endless. Sally is just a boring writer and has never had a successful stint.

          • TruthSquad

I like several of those writers but isn’t any transition a little trying and boring? I thought Griffith did a great job a few years back but IMO after a very slow start. I am not a Sally die hard But did get fed up with the last half of Pratt so I was enthused. I agree it is a bit slow at times but i am hopeful.

          • FoxyRoxyy

I think Sally is clueless about 2017 soap opera. She’s stuck in 1984 and what worked back then. Today, you get about 15 seconds to hook an audience or else they’ll change the channel or look at their smartphones. This slow build stuff does not work today and the decline in ratings reflects that. I am so bored with Y&R. I do not care about Ravi, Juliette, Sako or Sato or whatever his name is while the veterans are taking a back seat. I was never bored when Pratt was writing. I guess that I fall into the category of short attention span but the ratings were over 5 million regularly and now they are down over half a million viewers. That is significant. The demos are even worse. Cancelled soaps like AMC and OLTL had higher demos when they were cancelled than Y&R has now. That is very concerning.

          • TruthSquad

As I have said, I enjoyed the beginning of Pratt’s run at Y&R. While I agree that the show was faster pace, the stories stopped making sense and I felt the resolutions were confusing and disappointing.

          • TruthSquad

Did you see today’s? You probably didn’t like it as much as I did but you gotta admit the new locale mixes it up. Ravi looked handsome and finally caught Ashley’s eye. I’m sorry. It’s slow and different but it has its fun.
