Glad to see DAYS improve, but it still has a long way to go. The forcing of Chad and Gabi feels unreal and the Chad and Abby reunion is just plain silly. Happy to see Nicole with her baby, even though she doesn’t know the baby is hers… at least not yet. Hopefully the writers don’t screw up this storyline!

    • Salem Spectator

I’m hoping Holly is Eric’s daughter, but yeah, it’s nice to see Nicole with her very own child!

    • monzo

I have to say, I’m starting to enjoy Days again, at least parts of it. For many months I was just watching, because I was used to it. I hope they got strong episodes during the holidays so that they catch some viewers who will tune in next year, too.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Yikes, once again, at Y&R and Mal Young’s version of the show. The losses year to year are monstrous. The show is very boring. Can’t blame this on Pratt. It’s all Mal and the savior Sally. This can’t keep up without further budget cuts.

    • Salem Spectator

There most likely was budget cuts in order to hire Sally, so other cuts may be swift. If that blonde actress with the little girl voice has a sudden mystery illness again, you know it’s her way of dealing with being asked to take a cut in pay.

      • FoxyRoxyy

lol Their demos suck so their will be cuts coming.

        • Salem Spectator

Unfortunately all the soaps’ demos suck. Stick an “i” after the “e” in demos and you have deimos. Capitalize the name and you get Deimos, which could be bad for DOOL’s demos. Dump Deimos for better demos, DOOL!

          • vivien

LOL, you need to have your own blog. 😉

          • SoapArmageddon

That guy definitely needs to go.

  • Harvey

The changes at Days are starting to pay off. Only soap up while the others were down and they faced a partial pre-emption on Friday. Merry Christmas to all the soap fans!

    • Salem Spectator

Do you know what markets preempted DOOL and for how long?

      • Harvey

Obama’s press conference started at 2:40pm ET and ended around 4pm ET. So a lot of markets in the central and mountain time zones.

  • Hedda Lettuce

GC BUZZ is killing Y & R, they need to get rid of that crap ASAP.

    • Salem Spectator

Sally said she loved GC Buzz and that wouldn’t change. Also, there won’t be a return of Adam Newman.

  • Salem Spectator

Does anyone know what soaps were preempted in what markets? I see that GH didn’t have an episode on that day.

  • missmeka1987

    Days Fan baby..

  • Salem Spectator

They say what’s old is new again…but maybe the soaps (Y&R in particular) shouldn’t focus on what worked years ago. Expect massive budget cuts unless Y&R goes up in February. Sadly, Sally might not last long.

    • FoxyRoxyy

It’s going to be 2017. What worked in the 80’d when Sussman wrote with Bell will not work now. Someone should tell Mal. He seems oblivious.

    • SoapArmageddon

I wonder if they thought by just bringing back Kay and Sally the numbers would magically go up. Soap loyalty is definitely not as strong as it was in the past. Sometimes people move on.

      • charlie bracken

IA with that, these Two are the old school side of the soap world, the audience wants faster moving stories then the slow moving ones we are getting now.

        • SoapArmageddon

Thanks, Charlie. I see lots of complaints on other sites by posters who say the Chad and Abby story on Days is being dragged out; but I can remember that when there were stories like this a few years ago it took months for one partner to find out that the other was alive.. This one happened in less than seven weeks, and I’m enjoying it.

          • charlie bracken

YW exactly, the fans have to Be patient

      • monzo

When Gloria Monty returned to GH ratings continued to decline, seems it happens with Y&R now, too. You just can’t turn back time in soaps, sorry!

    • charlie bracken

You can’t expect Miracles from These two, I mean it’s only been what week and one day since Kay and sally started to fix what Pratt left them. I give the ladies Credit for moving things along as they are. I’m enjoying what they are doing it’s refreshing too see the characters acting like themselves. the Soaps have changed over the past few years, this isn’t your Grandma’s soap anymore. Plus the Audience has also changed too, in what they want too see on their screens. They are not used too the slow moving stories that was Y&R’s Staple, everyhting we had two years ago was Plot driven, now we are back to character driven stories that made Y&R popular

      • Salem Spectator

That was my point, charlie. Today’s viewers might not want or accept the old style storytelling from many years ago.

        • charlie bracken

BINGO that’s it, you got it.

        • TV&MovieBuff

But viewers aren’t accepting the newer style of story telling on any of these shows either. At least going back to old style of things is something different than any show has done in a long time. Y&R has been dropping all things Y&R and going modern, modern, modern for years now and viewers ran away faster and faster. At least somebody is trying something different. And not hiring the same old has-been hack writer who has already proven over and over again they can’t write for said show in the first place.

          • Salem Spectator

lol That’s why said hack writer has a new young and hip cowriter who has fresh ideas. Dena and Ryan are doing great! Hopefully, Sally can too.

          • jesse

new and fresh ideas like orpheus and his jail buddies a couple of months ago,now sheila and coco a couple months later boring.I love and respect Joe but honestly stop bringing back characters from the dead again and again.higley and corday are hacks with the same ideas.if deimos wasn’t there those hacks would have another character just like him because higley and corday don’t have fresh ideas.

  • Ann Marie Blon

I see the Sonny pity party didn’t help ratings for GH. GH needs new writers bad.

    • Oh my god it’s insufferable!!! I wish they would blow him and carly to smithereens!!!

      • Eileen

I’m with you. I got so sick and tired of this jerk being the center of the show and being excused for everything, I pretty much stopped watching it. Everytime I read something about it, it seems nothing has changed!

    • Kelly

I’m on hiatus from GH due to the constant incessant Franco garbage. I can’t watch that. The cage thing is just awful. I mean really awful and in my opinion those writers or EP (whoever started this thing with Franco) needs to be handed their pink slip. I can take Sonny in small doses lately but I much preferred him when he was really mob and not painted as some sort of Saint. They have such a bloated cast and they drop kick them into a storyline without any build up and expect people to care about them. I still don’t care about what happens to Nina. Like the character but I have never figured out why I should root for her. And, OMG with this Lulu embryo storyline. She has been chasing her eggs for years and it is so boring. SO boring. I don’t care about Valentin. I’m not even sure of his point. Then there’s Julian and Alexis. They did a number on them and now they can’t possibly fix what they broke and therein lies the lesson. Ditch the shock and awe and write a character driven complex story that solidifies the character into the storyline. Instead it’s the constant plot driven drivel that ultimately goes nowhere on a fast track. And I think Jason has more purpose in the mob. If they aren’t going to give him something to do besides play faux rent a cop then put him back in the mob.

      • vivien

Amen to everything! I can’t STAND the mob and I’d rather see Jason torn between his Quartermaine side and his Morgan side, but if he’s going to be full-on Morgan and only remember that, they should go back to what works with many in the audience. I’ll always FF him no matter what. The only time I ever liked him is when he was “Jake” and madly in love with Elizabeth.

        • monzo

I think Jason turned into a supporting character for Sonny and Carly because it’s just a matter of time until Billy Miller is leaving the show. He wants to do primetime and had been a main cast member in a pilot that wasn’t pick up, so if he did it once, he might get another pilot, which this time could be ordered to series, just like it did happen to Justin Hartley. So it’s for sure easier to write an useless Jason out instead of a major key player.

    • monzo

They got good parts like anything Laura is involved, but they focus on too many useless stuff like is it a boy or a girl for Sam and Jason? If they waste screentime talking if or why not or why suddenly Jasam want to know the gender it’s just stupid. They could only make it entertaining if the baby is transgender…

  • Salem Spectator

No new and/or tied lows or losses of any kind from last week for DOOL, just good old fashioned gains in every category!

    Happy Holidays!

  • charlie bracken

Not Bad for Y&R i figured they would have been some pluses But you can’t win them all, Those 18-49’s Yikes they really need to fix that Big time. But it was A good first week with Sally and Kay even though they are still cleaning up Pratt’s Crap. I enjoyed the whole week, lots of drama.

  • Eileen

Seems there is a trend lately of soaps going down as the week progresses. None of those ratings are good; I know DOOL got a boost but it is so low on the totem pole it is not exactly that big a deal. B&B, with their increasingly stupid female characters, offends me and I have taken it off my DVR. I stopped watching GH two years ago and have only seen it periodically since then (about 10-12 times). It is so bad I can’t get into it again, dark and depressing and the entire cast appears to be hoodlums and lawbreakers. Y&R can be boring but it is recognizable and I still watch it. I haven’t watched Days much either since they killed half the cast last year.

    • monzo

B&B is the only show right now I’m not feeling, you know what I mean? All those characters are like puppets on a string. I want to care about characters (at least some) on soaps, but all that vanished at B&B during the past months. There are episodes that are so silly that they are even funny, but I’m not sure for how long this writing will work in ratings.

  • padange

I don’t particularly blame the new writers but I hope Y&R has learned the lesson that they can’t destroy all the storylines before developing the new ones. Those 180s they did during the transition were brutally destructive and alienated a part of the audience. Continuity and consistency are very important to the audience. Fortunately, it’s Holidays which likely means they will rebound. I wish TPTB had been more careful before making radical choices. I hope they fix things that still can be fixed.

    • charlie bracken

IA you can’t blame Kay and sally, they walked into a Mess and they have made some good changes the past few weeks. The show it self is coming back slowly but it will take time, the fans need to be patient. I don’t think they “alienated the audience” per say all they did was make the characters them selves again. we had two years of plot driven stuff that made the characters not them selves. IMO this what Bill did, he didn’t always explain what happened next. The thing with the Baby and the after math was done well, we were not in court and we got what happened after.

      • padange

I personally have a big problem with the fact that the show dropped/destroyed some storylines and now pretends they never aired them. I also have to admit that the interview with Michael Logan disappointed me immensely. I would have preferred if the new regime had tried to improve the stories, added new layers and depth to them instead of ignoring/dismissing most of them. I don’t know exactly whose decision it was to completely change the direction, so I don’t blame it on the current HW but it was quite a reckless thing to do IMO.

        • charlie bracken

Bill used to do the same thing, he would write something the audience didn’t like and drop it or let it run it’s course. IMO That’s what sally and Kay probably were like let’s do that scrap what Pratt was doing and start fresh. Even with the Baby thing that was ended nicely I think we didn’t have the court room after math we had what happened next with Dylan and Sharon not having the baby But Nick getting him back. I do think CBS probably were the ones who said scrap everything Pratt was doing and start New, I’m enjoying what these ladies have done. It’s going to take time for the show to go back to what it was.

        • FoxyRoxyy

The Sussman interview was disappointing. Sally is keeping the wrong stuff (GC Buzz) and dropping stuff she should explore further. Her numbers have been awful so far and Mal hasn’t helped abit since he’s been there.

        • JBT

Sometimes wiping the slate clean is the thing to do. The last several years have been a downward spiral and I think a lot should be undone.

          • charlie bracken

            My thoughts exactly 🙂

          • padange

Time will tell. IMO the transition was pretty destructive. As far as ratings are concerned, the last couple of years weren’t as bad as people may want to think.

        • robert

i hate how the show is acting like Billy and Phyllis never happened or Victor suddenly being a saint

          • padange

ITA. I hate it too. IMO it’s disrespectful to the viewers. My brain has no “reset” button.

  • Salem Spectator

The newest DOOL promo includes “In the new year old loves (Sonny and Paul) reunite and lost loves (Chad and Abby) come together.”

  • Paul

Days ratings still terrible especially in the demos its just shows how bad this show has sunk that some fans think these are good. If Days was getting these demos in 2013 so many fans would be saying how bad they were this is only 3 years ago. I suppose any increase it better than nothing at least not losing viewers every week like they be doing through the year anymore.

  • Derrick

Ok……………Kay and Sally still has work to fix from Pratt’s mess! I still can’t understand why they didn’t increase! People are not giving Kay and Sally a chance!
Congrats DAYS but you need to go up more!

    • FoxyRoxyy

Sally’s work has been so boring so far. Viewers keep tuning out and falling asleep. Mal has got to go. I want Wendy Riche at Y&R. Now there is a producer.

      • monzo

You’re so right, Foxy! What’s worse than a show with bad writing? Boring writing! It’s nice that they are mentioning so many stories from the past, but something (anything, please!) must happen in the present!

      • JBT

I think it’s fair to say the writing has improved but certain elements are still missing. Hopefully the production values such as the music, outdoor filming and bad sets get fixed. We shall see. Nothing happens over night. If there isn’t an improvement by the end of next month in production I will be echoing your complaints about Mal Young but in my opinion he already began fixing the big issue which is the writers.

        • charlie bracken

Exactly Given the two years we had with JFP and Pratt we can’t expect miracles.. Mal made the biggest change which was the writing now that we have That Fixed the music needs to be revamped as well. But the production side has improved you can’t complain about that, The lighting is much better and the camera angles are like they were when Bill was around. Loving the Fact Mal is using Sally Mcdonald a lot is nice.

    • charlie bracken

IA with you, I am too i thought we would some increases but we didn’t which is a shame. I’ve been enjoying the past few days, everything is starting too feel like the Old Y&R.

    • Kelly

I’ve been FF through the Christian stuff. Story is on steroids. Same with Jack. Doesn’t he have something to do besides lick his wounds and play victim. He needs to come down off that cross and let someone else have a turn up there. And Hillary is played out although I did hear the new HW had a similar character she liked and this character is here to stay. I just wish there wasn’t so much of her. I’m glad they are dusting Billy off. Long overdue. I know they have to spin these tales down to their logical conclusion and I really do think that will happen.

      • charlie bracken

IA with you on Jack he has been acting like a total Ass to Billy, and i can understand why but he needs to get off his high horse and forgive him already.

        • JBT

A testiment to the writing. For the first time ever I now like Jason Thompson as Billy. I think Jack treating him badly is to make viewers like me warm up to him.

          • charlie bracken

same here, I love the fights between them it;s like creepy but in a good way. But Jack does need to forgive Billy already, the way he treated him at Christmas was just Mean..

    • JBT

I like the writing now. It is definitely on the right track. The production values need some upgrading also. Hopefully it will all come together soon.

    • Salem Spectator

Yes, more viewers need to give DOOL a chance. Instead of the narrow minded dwelling on Dena, they should realize there is greatness with Ryan as her Co-headwriter!

  • Andrew Hass

Yeah Days went up but it may not matter much if in next week’s ratings they lose the viewers they gained this week.

    • bofyo

Well the ratings have been so low than any increase has minor relevancy but still a move in the right direction. Now the only thing Days must do is hope for steady ratings or some increases before contract negotiations. I doubt we will see any major increases unless we have a major snow storm or some big actor returns or gets a new role on Days. As a viewer, I have a mixed opinion about these team writers. It is good and interesting one week and a total bore the next. But I will keep tuning in to see how things play out when i can.

  • JBT

Happy holidays all. My opinion of Y&R now after watching the new writers for a few weeks is mixed. I think the writing is on-track and you can see it improve daily. I think the show itself has so much wrong with it from years of mismanagement. The production values still leave a lot to be desired. I don’t know where they got the background music 🎶 but it’s awful. They need to burn down Brash and Sassys fake looking lab. They need to cease with Chancellor Park and the attempts at outdoor stuff. I think perhaps They could learn a thing or two about production values from B&B. I am patient because it is early in the game and the show is much better with Sussman writing than it was with Pratt. Mal Young should be given cheers for bringing back Sally and Kay but he needs to show some worth too by making the show elegant again. It is definitely lacking elegance. They are all in a tough spot. Just about every soap that has been run by JFP and Pratt never fully recover after they leave.

    • charlie bracken

I was thinking the same thing, Given what Mal walked into he has done some great work by making some good changes. I don’t like the back round music either hopefully that will change soon, The writing has gotten 100% better. It feels like your watching Bill’s show again but Your right Pratt did make a huge mockery out of the show the past two years and It’s going to take time to really clean up. But Given what Kay and Sally walked into they have done well, The pace is better and the stories are moving in the right direction.

      • richie

I agree, I was away for Christmas, but did see my soaps. Noticing improvement with Sally, Kay & Mal in control, will take time to undo Pratt, as we’ve said before. Some on this site do not grasp that, but that is their problem. Am looking forward to Esther moving back to the mansion with Jill. If done right that could be a hoot.

        • charlie bracken

Exactly, your right the show has improved a lot in the past few weeks But it’s going to take time for Them to really Undo what Pratt did for those two years.

  • Rudolph

    Merry Christmas Soap Fans!

  • Salem Spectator
    • vivien

Well, look whose hand he’s holding 😉

  • Elle L

Days = The Little Engine that Could! Nice to see them making slow but steady improvement. I grew up watching Days in the 80s, so will always root for them to survive, but haven’t really watched consistently in probably 10-15 years. I watched online here and there over the past few months with holiday breaks and I’ll say this…it’s nice to see so many characters I recognize from the past. I tuned in randomly one day and saw: Kim, Shane, Patch, Kayla, Adrienne, Justice, Jen, Abe. Although I hadn’t watched it ages, there were faces I recognized…front and center. I liked that. It easily felt like home. And, the new-er characters or next generation characters seemed to be at least fairly well integrated with the vets so I could try to get into their storylines too. That said, the show can get a bit boring depending on the episode…like, I’m not compelled to watch everyday. If you watch one or twice every few weeks, you can still keep up with the show. As far as ratings go, obviously there isn’t much chance of Days jumping to the #1 or #2 spot; however, improving enough to take the #3 spot is possible (perhaps not probable, but possible). There is a much bigger gap in ratings between the #1 and #2 and #2 and #3 spots than #3 and #4. In other words, regardless of the week to week ups and downs in ratings, Y&R will continue to have the #1 spot locked in, along with B&B for #2. Currently, Y&R has about a million more viewers than B&B, and B&B has “about” a million more than GH. But, there is only about 300K difference between GH and Days. Not sure any of this really matters overall, but steady increases from Days and/or decreases from GH could make that #3 spot up for grabs.

    • vivien

I love seeing the vets front-and-center with meaty storylines .. and behaving IN CHARACTER!

    • cab

I agree with your comment regarding GH and Days. On the other hand, I do not agree that you can miss an episode or 2 and not miss anything. Lately, if you miss one your have missed a lot.

  • Salem Spectator

I’m sorry that some viewers are upset that one soap has a young and hip headwriter while others have writers who can break a hip. Merry Christmas!

    • vivien

You’re a hoot, lol – Merry Christmas to you! 🙂

  • Salem Spectator

If you or someone you know aren’t sure what soap to follow, just look at the writers:

    GH – Moldy Jelly
    B&B – Ding Dong Bell
    Y&R – Sally Scissor Hands
DOOL – Quigley, The combination of Quan & Higley. Ryan Quan is young and hip with fresh ideas and Dena Higley has been known to go off the rails, but has had great highs too. Together, they are doing extremely well.

    • vivien

LOL, ITA about GH, but don’t watch B&B or Y&R so I can’t say. All I know is, I am hopeful for the new year for DAYS with Greg Vaughan returning (and possibility of an Ericole baby!) Stayla wedding, Brady&Chloe actually in each other’s orbit for once! The Horton tree trimming was wonderful, with Julie & Doug as the centerpiece, bringing faith and joy, and this was by far the highest-rated day DAYS has seen in a long time. Love, warmth, sentiment, ‘make ’em CARE!’ these kinds of stories trump ‘shock and awe’ any day of the week. I’m hoping we will soon be seeing some ‘Broe’ duets. Corny, yeah, but these two can SING and the show ought to be making the most of that.

      • Salem Spectator

My favorite part of the tree trimming was when Valerie’s attention was on David’s ornament!

        • vivien

Ooooh, yes, that is going to be a very interesting story for Julie! 😀

          • Salem Spectator

I was fortunate enough to see a video posted on vimeo where SSH did an interview type chat with Lamon Archey (soon to appear as Eli, Julie’s grandson) in which it was revealed that the storyline with the two of them and their relatives will be prominent! The video was immediately taken down, but it was fascinating!

    • FoxyRoxyy

LOL at Sally Scissorhands. She’s gonna have to do alot better than she has so far. Her stories are dull dull dull. Way too much dialogue and not enough action. That may have worked for Bill Bell 30 years ago but it will not sustain audiences today. We are a 10 second society. If it doexn’t capture my attention in 10 seconds, zap, channel switched. There is nothing on Y&R right now that is interesting. The viewers continue to switch off the channel.

      • robert

the show is very boring. everything is moving at a snails pace

        • FoxyRoxyy

Y&R is doomed if Sally Scissorhands thinks she can re-create the Y&R of the 80’s. Slow pace may have worked then. But it will not work now.

          • Salem Spectator

If it becomes a yawner, don’t replace the”y” and “r” with a “Y” and “R” in that word because it proves controversial.

  • robert

the new writing on Y&R is a disappointment. the show is so boring. the pacing and the cast balance has gotten worse. the Newman hour,GC Buzz Villy redux, chemistryless Nick and Chelsea, and too much Faith is a leading factor in the bad ratings

    • Salem Spectator

With the right combination of meditation (Quan) and medication (Higley), DOOL is dope (in a good way)!

      • SoapArmageddon

        LOL

    • FoxyRoxyy

Y&R is horrible. Annoying Gloria is Sally’s first returning character? I can’t stand Gloria. Faith? Another annoying character front and center. Sussman seems to be stuck in 1984, but it is almost 2017. She spent wayyyyyy too much time last week talking about Paul’s mother’s cabbage. I had no clue what that was all about. We get it Sally. You wrote with Bill Bell 30 years ago. Move on to 2017. Stop the boring, endless scenes. Y&R of 2017 should not be the Y&R of 30 years ago. I’ll take explosions anyday over Sally’s boring crap.

  • Salem Spectator

Hold on to your faith, Adrienne, and no matter the outcome you’ll be OK! Christmastime Chemo is a bummer, but you have friends, family and God to lean on: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f0940ac36988b2c607c23020d9c901164a3dc28f5391fe2a82b81e4649269140.jpg Judi Evans has me spellbound! I hope Adrienne lives!

  • JBT

Y&R was certainly on fire today. Even the GC Buzz which is not one of my favorites has some elements of enjoyment. Good writing. Better producing and definely evolving .

    • FoxyRoxyy

I disagree. I am bored with Y&R. Nothing is happening. There isn’t a storyline worth following.

      • JBT

Hopefully they are able to draw you in at some point. I am definitely liking it better.

        • Kevin Little

The mere fact that Dullan is leaving will improve the show immensely. Steve Burton has done nothing but phone in his robotic scenes over the past three or four years. Hopefully he never resurfaces on daytime TV ever again.

          • JBT

I have nothing against the actor but was never crazy about his character. His existence made so little sense and was so far fetched that expecting viewers to accept him was a tall order.

        • FoxyRoxyy

I hear that Mary’s sauerkraut is getting its own storyline for Feb sweeps. That will really draw in the viewers!

          • JBT

Give it some time. I think everyone on this board will acknowledge that the demos are not what they used to be and that there is cause for concern with regard to future budget as a result. I see improvement, you apparently do not. I personally went from watching 1 episode per month to 4 per week. It started out of curiosity but I am sticking around as I see things evolving. I agree with you in some of your critism about shaky cameras 🎥 and outdoor filming and overall production values. They are not appealing to me either. I do think good storytelling is on the way though.

      • Y&R is terribly boring. SMS has improved production: The Newman ranch finally looks like a home and Hillary finally had a set.
Frankly, Adam needs to return. He is a fantastic counter point to Billy, much in the spirit of Jack and Victor but minus the old people smell.
I’d suggest the addition of Lauren’s children Scott and Fenn as opposed to the introduction of new, disconected characters like Stitch. This sort of move would give Michael and Lauren more to do. Maybe Jack’s MIA kids should return, as well. Heck, bring a few Chancellor men back as well so that maybe Chelsea can get some non Newman sex.

Glad to see Days numbers up again. especially since viewers usually do not watch programming over the holidays, that is why the majority of prime time are repeats. I also am happy with their gains because they have been dropped by major affiliates or moved to the wee hours of the morning, They have great hurdles to over come compared to the other soaps. So any gains to me, means huge gains to me personally and hopefully NBC and Sony.

    • Harvey

I don’t think that’s true. Jason47 checked all the NBC affiliates in September 2016 and this is what he wrote on his website:

      223 AFFILIATES:

      TIME SLOT AIRED:

      “Days” at 1PM: 167

      “Days” at 12PM: 32

      “Days” at 1230PM: 16

“Days” at 2PM: 5 (Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Johnstown, PA; St. Louis,
      MO; South Bend, IN)

“Days” at 3PM: 1 (Pittsburgh, PA)

“Days” at 4PM: 1 (Quincy, IL)

“Days” at 107AM: 1 (Salt Lake City, UT)

      • 2pm EST would be great considering that Days, YR and Bold shouldn’t be in direct competition given the dearth of daytime drama.
This would allow hardcore fans to view all four soaps without needing to record.

        • chharles

I agree. I live in a heavy populated area on the east coast and Days has always been in direct competition with Y&R and BB. I am wondering what the ratings would look like if Days (or all soaps) did not air against another soap. I assume though that ratings and times people are used to watching their soaps is very tricky. I watched Days on POP tv and when it was removed I thought that ratings might increase because people who were home could no longer watch it at night but after it was removed from that channel the ratings stayed the same and even decreased. I noticed that my my cable company now stores about two weeks of Days on demand..it never did this before which is great for someone like me who has a changing work schedule.

      • JayTN

These results are similar (if not identical) to what I found earlier this year and posted here in the ratings forum. If I recall, most of those affiliates that air “Days” at 12:00pm are actually in the central or mountain time zones, which means it actually airs when the network prefers it to (1pm eastern/12pm central). So only a handful of affiliates air “Days” outside of its regular, network preferred timeslot.

      • cab

NBC affiliate in Las Vegas dropped the show completely and apparently is being shown in Las Vegas in the wee hours of the morning on The CW network.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Y&R’s writing still needs alot of work. Miracle of miracles. One episode, Jack and Neil don’t have a place to hold their gala and then BAM, the next episode the Gala is in full swing. I don’t see Sally Sussman as any savior of the writing. It’s been just as preposterous as Pratt’s. Sally needs to really up her game, pronto. Viewers are tuning out. Although undoubtedly this week will see the usual holiday bump with people being home.

  • soaprealityfan

Days still sucks. I am bored senseless with these stories and characters. Quitting the show altogether next week. Totally done with it.

    • Salem Spectator

      Hasta la vista baby!

    • frannchesca

i have to admit that I always watch Days after it starts when I am at home, but I make up for it by turning it off early.

    • resolutionwithdrawal

Many said that before but many keep coming back. Looking forward to your posts about Days and its story-lines in 2017.

    • JBT

I have been off Days for the last couple of months but caught one this week that was pretty good. Maybe I got lucky 🍀.

  • TV&MovieBuff

Haven’t posted or read much on here in awhile. The senseless postings of the troll trying to get a reaction out of someone are too much for me. Fine you love Days of Our Lives. We all know by now. How sad your life must be to be so obsessed on a message board with one show that you have to attack every other show just to make it look good.

Anyway just wanted to say that after a few weeks of Y&R under the new writers I am not fully impressed with everything but I didn’t expect to be. As to the complaint on here by some that the slow pace won’t work. I think that is yet to be seen. With so many ways to watch soaps and TV now viewers are not always interested in non-stop action. Shows like Bloodline on Netflix have proven popular and it is a clear character drama and moves at a slower pace. There is a niche out there for it, if it is done right.

Hey as I said in another post on here, folks why not give this a chance. The fast paced, shock and awe story lines with no character build up wasn’t drawing in viewers either.

On another front, I don’t think the soaps are going to get much help from the weather this winter. From the outlook on the weather channel, most of the US is going to be above average for awhile. Hopefully all of them will be able to pull together some good storylines and see ratings increases anyway.

    • JBT

IMO Y&R is improving but it is a process. Time will tell.

      • charlie bracken

ITA given what Pratt did to the show the past two years and what Sally and Kay walked into you have to give these ladies Kudos for not only nit picking at what Pratt had done but Turning it around for the better. It’s going to take time for things to really settle down before we can say Y&R is Back.

    • Salem Spectator

Is “troll” a step up or down from “trash”?

  • GHnews

General Hospital star Barbara Tarbuck died at the age of 74 in L.A. on Monday, December 26. Tarbuck’s daughter, producer Jennifer Lane Connolly, told the
publication that the actress passed away of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disorder, a
rare brain disease. Tarbuck is best known for playing Lady Jane Jacks on the soap for more than a decade from 1996 to 2010. RIP.

    • Salem Spectator

That is horrible news. Prayers for her and her family.
