  • good to see…

  • robert

the short week definitely helped the cbs soaps

  • Amie

Great big week for Y&R and B&B CBS Wins last week.

  • charlie bracken

Nice too see Y&R up for the week, But their 18-49’s Yikes Not surprised though. That Turkey day show was pretty Bad I’ve seen better.

    • robert

at least the show had a Thanksgiving episode this year after skipping it last year. those demos are still bad

      • charlie bracken

iA they did but the show it self was stupid IMO it wasn’t that family feeling like it usually has you know. But your right about their demos though they haven’t moved a inch in months.

  • Salem Spectator

Lamon Archey, formerly of Y&R, will play the son of Valerie (Vanessa Williams) on DOOL. He will arrive onscreen early in the new year!

Longtime DOOL viewers know Valerie was in a “forbidden” relationship with Julie’s son, David. There has been a lot of talk that Valerie’s son’s father is David.

Lani, daughter of Abe (James Reynolds) returns soon. Theo (Kyler Pettis) is going to have a lot to deal with. I hope he can cope with the changes. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4a8580d60b5d72ebe4c397f7f94d72ec3e076d2fe70462d8f87e21485eb15ea1.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ef2012c2930ab553061651bf85b489e55b4c29ab4b04ca497ce5bc84149d0640.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a3653c61224b7ba97102ccd59984e9959ec995e558d06597c216a9da1b5e92dc.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7f17789e2401f74458464b491e4f2d35fe66cc2407b9d6446fb0f712c1e4c941.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/284c8f39d65742b783116a1b6da5d24d708aedb10499734818d7796f0539bab2.jpg

    • Andrew Hass

Well somewhere that Valerie’s return would eventually involve Julie and so this might be where Julie’s involvement comes in with her son been the father of Valerie’s son.

      • Pete Ra

Good way to incorporate Julie into more story

        • Salem Spectator

Undoubtedly, Julie has no idea that she has another grandson. Gabi may be instrumental in preventing a happy union between Julie and her grandson because Julie hates Gabi for killing her cousin Nick and moving on with her cousin JJ and ultimately Julie’s grandson! Gabi has a thing for Horton men, yet none of them have the Horton name. After she chews him up and spits him out, she could move on with Mike’s son, Jeremy, who actually has the surname of Horton!

    • monzo

Wow, I liked him sooo much on Y&R! It was sad that he was thrown under the bus for Hilary’s stupid revenge storyline, but that Hilary witch has ruined some other characters since then including herself. Hope they are going to write her off very soon… Anyway, good luck for Lamon! Please have a good and entertaining storyline at DOOL!

    • TV&MovieBuff

He looks awfully young to be the son of her and David though since they were involved in the 1970s and would have been born before Sami, Brady, Belle, Sean, and so many others already on the show. Plus add to it that the son of David with Trish has already been on the show and is much older than this guy. This is totally ignoring history of the show.

      • monzo

Lamon Archey is in his mid-thirties, so it kind of fits with me. I’ve got more problems with Valerie: IMO the actress is much too young for that role, but that’s just soaps! Look at Deimos: he was just a few years younger than Victor in those flashbacks, that made zero sense!

      • Salem Spectator

David and Valerie never consummated their love onscreen. It may be revealed that they met again elsewhere after Trish was out of the picture.

      • vivien

that’s never stopped DAYS before, lol. EJ was just a baby when Sami was a teenager, now they’re roughly the same age. Belle&Brady were aged to teens from toddlers overnight so that Belle could suddenly be the same age as Shawn.

    • allysha

I hope T Boz ends up being Valeries daughter or sister. It has been so good lately.

      • Salem Spectator

T-Boz is only appearing through January, but maybe she’ll be back…from a jailbird to a songbird.

    • bekylovsdays

Another great addition to the show. Nice to see more roles/characters being added of different races, ethnicity’s, and sexual orientations on daytime tv.

  • Andrew Hass

I think it was a good week for all 4 soaps since all 4 went up in total viewers.

    • robert

      the shortened holiday week helped

  • Paul

As expected every soap got a bump for Thanks giving week so big deal in Days going up now lets see see if they can build on the increase next week i put money on it they drop again hope i am wrong.

  • Happy Accidents

Days of Our Lives: THE BRUTAL STATS!!

Days’ daily totals usually collapse on Thursday and Friday. They are usually 2.1s, or 2.0s. Hence the increase this week is mostly caused by this week being only Monday-Wednesday. In other words, most of the increase seen this week is artificial and meaningless.

If you look at the Mon-Wed average, they were stronger two weeks ago. All of Quigley’s weeks are unprecedentedly low for this time of year. It is on the verge of winter – and they would normally be much higher than this.

    • cab

I do not know why, but all the soaps get low numbers on Thursday and Friday. Not just Days.

  • JBT

I gave every show a watch this month. I found B&B and GH were the most enjoyable and Y&R and Days just impossibly boring. None seemed to be on their game at a November sweeps level. I have hopes for Y&R with the writing change ahead but am concerned that the characters and stories have gotten so bad and the characters so flat that it’s gonna take a lot of hard work and some serious magic to get back on track.

    • charlie bracken

IA with that Sally and Kay have a lot of work to do to really clean up what Pratt left behind after making a Mockery out of Y&r the past two years. From reading the December stuff it looks promising, more like the Old school

      • JBT

I would like it very much if they brought Genie Frances back as Genevive. I thought she was a great character and that her stay was ended abruptly when JFP arrived due to their history.

        • charlie bracken

Same here But i highly doubt she would return, I know she has a big story on Gh Unless Mal can bring her back for a short stint.

    • vikkie

I tuned into Days this week. It was pretty good. The holidays are a time when the soap audience comes together to catch up on their favorite soaps and characters. hey it also better than watching another talk show if you have the time off and indoors.

      • JBT

I have a fondness for all of the remaining 4.

  • Salem Spectator

If DOOL isn’t renewed in January, it will end three months before viewers would see an African American’s ornament hanging on the Horton Christmas Tree, so close yet so far away!

    • hillnoz

I hope they also continue the gay ornament they had in the past. Nice to see all different types of people included in the Horton Family Tree. I am sure now that Gabi is dating JJ a Mexican ornament will be hung also.

      • Salem Spectator

I think someone broke Gabi’s ornament after she murdered Nick.

        • jackie

Did Paul get an ornament? He is half Asian. Asians always get left out.

          • vanezza

Since he slept with Will Horton and Sonny he should get one.

          • Salem Spectator

No, he would have to be of Horton blood or married to a Horton or be a father to a Horton.

          • Salem Spectator

No, because Paul isn’t a Horton. Not even Marlena has a Horton Ornament. She was a very close friend of Tom and Alice and was their next door neighbor for many years. Paul isn’t left out because he is Asian, he just isn’t a Horton.

      • Salem Spectator

They’ve had Will’s ornament ever since he was born. Sonny’s ornament was introduced the Christmas before last. Last Christmas was the first Christmas since Will was murdered, but Sonny’s ornament was still included.

    • DaysLuva

Not true! Abe, Lexie and Theo got one in 2008! Know the facts before you post.

      • jackie

I’m sorry but I believe you are incorrect. Abe, Lexie and Theo did not have their own ornament.

      • Salem Spectator

I don’t recall seeing them receive their very own Horton Christmas Tree Ornaments. They are not Hortons and are not married to Hortons or have Horton children, but Theo will have a Horton Ornament if he marries Ciara or Claire.

      • TV&MovieBuff

Although they did attend the ornament ceremony that year, they did not receive ornaments. Several have been invited to join the Hortons for the tradition through the years but there have been only 59 characters on the show who have had ornaments on the tree:

        Abby, Addie, Alice, Alice Caroline
(Allie), Arianne Grace, Belle, Bill, Bo, Bonnie, Carrie, Chelsea, Chloe, Ciara,
Claire, Daniel, David, Doug, Dougie, Faith, Gabi, Hope, Jack, Jack Jr., Janice,
Jennifer, Jeremy, Jessica, John Thomas, Johnny Roman, Joshua, Julie, Laura,
Lucas, Maggie, Margo, Marie, Melanie, Melissa, Mickey, Mike, Nathan, Nicholas,
Nicole, Peter, Sami, Sandy, Sarah, Scott, Scotty, Shawn Douglas,
Sonny, Stephanie, Stephen, Tom, Tommy, Trish, Victor, Will,
        Zack

Some of those were retired after marriages or engagements broke up.

And in 2001 there were 10 ornaments added that year for 10 people who were killed on September 11. They were real people and their ornaments were hung on the tree that year but as far as I can find on the Internet no one has seen those ornaments after that year.

On Jason47’s Days page he has much more info on the ornaments.

        • Dave

Chase Jennings was given an ornament last Christmas before Josh Griffith destroyed his character and made him a rapist.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Horrible first November sweeps for Mal Young at Y&R. Down hundreds of thousands of viewers in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos. Mal sure has not helped the show at all.

    • JBT

I really think and hope it comes down to the writing. I haven’t enjoyed the show since Pratt started but always root for its success. Time will tell.

      • charlie bracken

It does come down to the writing I agree with that 100%! That is what brings in the Viewers are the stories.

    • charlie bracken

Once again here we are On “The Mal blame game” staring “Mal young” who gets Blasted for Low numbers and bad “Logic” He has “helped” the show as far as production goes or haven’t you read the memo which states “He Has NO power over the writing” expect for and I quote “He can offer suggestions to Sally or kay that is as far as it goes” as for the “Low numbers” These are PRATT’s Once again I repeat “Pratt’s” He is still created as the Ep/HW so don’t go on one of your Many Rants for which I know you will be (after i post this) saying my “Logic” isn’t right blah, Blah, blah! Let me say this Starting this week Sally and Kay’s first show airs when Wednesday the 7th. Will it bring in the numbers who knows we have to wait and see shall we.

      • FoxyRoxyy

Again, you are inconsistent. When JFP was there, you blamed her when ratings were low. But Mal had the same job now but he has no power according to you. You go by different sets of rules depending on if you like the person or not.

        • charlie bracken

Now i’m “Inconsistent” is it well let me say this JFP and Pratt are both to blame for what Has happened to the show the past two years, Not only did they make a mockery out of what was Bill’s “baby” but their Numbers have proven it time and time again. So don’t go and Put this on Mal Now, I’m giving him a free pass why you ask I will tell you, He has only been at this for a short period of time (yes he came in January but JFP was still in charge). Also I have said this repeatedly and you just choose to ignore it Mal can #1: offer ideaas to the Hw (Sally or Kay) if they like what has to offer then they will run it. #2: he can’t rewrite anything that is on the page or he will be “fired” dare we forget what happened when JG did this as did Ed hmm. MY rules don’t apply to your “Logic”, you rules state Let’s blame young week after week for Y&R’s “woes” that wasn’t of his creation he has made some changes.

          • FoxyRoxyy

On my tv, the credits start with Created by the Bells, then Executive Producer Mal Young. He is the boss of the entire show. I don’t think he has improved the show at all, and the ratings back me up.

          • charlie bracken

The only thing that “backs you up” is your “Logic” of Let’s blame young week after week it does get a little Boring. Yes he is in charge of the whole show your right about that But as I have stated repeatedly He is in charge of #1″ the Budget #2: the actors and their contracts, 3#: he over see’s the writing But as I have said before He can offer Ideas to Both ladies But that is it as far as His reach goes when it comes to the writing. The Numbers may “back you up”But these are still Pratt’s I repeat Pratt’s numbers he is still created as the Ep/HW until Thursday of this week when Sally and Kay take over. I forget to add #4: the production side which includes the directing ect.. which IMO he has “Improved”

          • FoxyRoxyy

Thanks for confirming that Mal is in charge of the entire show, including the writing. And just to correct you, Sussman’s writing starts on Wednesday, not Thursday.

          • charlie bracken

Yes he is in charge of the show as a whole But as I mentioned He is in charge of The Budget, the actors contracts, The directing.. and yes the writing But that has it’s Limits as to what he can and can’t do as far as rewriting any of the scripts. he can offer suggestions But that as far as it goes You understand mine Logic or no?

          • richie

Charlie, don’t get your BP up going back& forth with her or him. It’s hard to do, but I ignore the posts. Most people on this site have enough sense to grasp the happenings & changes at Y&R. A few will ALWAYS be contrary, even if Jesus himself came down & wrote for Y&R. I still believe that these naysayers never or hardly ever watch the show. After “2” more days, we will never have to see Pratts name on the open credit roll again. That is my opinion & I’m sticking with it!!

          • charlie bracken

Thanks me either but it gets so nerve wrecking seeing him or her keeping blasting Mal week after week it’s like let the man do his job for god sake. I loved the december spoilers it looks promising

          • FoxyRoxyy

I will keep blasting Mal Young because he has not done a thing to raise Y&R’s ratings. The demos are WAY down since Mal took over.

          • charlie bracken

Did you Not get my Memo Or you too Blind too read That Their “demos” have been Like this for well over a year even before Mal started this past January. Now it’s He has “done nothing to raise the Numbers” OH for the Love Of God, did you not read what I said before these are PRATT’s NUMBERS I repeat PRATT’s NUMBERS He is still being created as the Ep/HW until Wednesday when Sally and kay take over. You can’t expect Miracles from One person But your “Logic” is always my way or the Highway week after week it gets Boring after a while trying to explain to you that JFP and PRATT Created this Mess we are in NOT Young ,He has only been at this for a short period of time.

          • FoxyRoxyy

As usual, Charlie, you are losing it. Mal is not to blame but JFP, who has been gone for months, is still to blame? The nursing home is ready for you Charlie.

          • charlie bracken

OH Now I’m “losing it” NO MY mind is perfectly clear as to who is to blame for this mess we are in and it sure as Hell isn’t Young .But according to your “Logic” and Rules he is to blame for this “mess” we are in even though He didn’t create It,He may have what “walked Into it” but he didn’t create it.Pratt and JFP both did, they made a Mockery out of Bill’s show for the past two years or haven’t you been paying any attention to it is that it or does your “rules” clearly state we must blame young Hmm?

          • richie

Charlie, don’t know when you see Y&R, but here in the east, opening scene just ended, started with Abbott breakfast. Brought back memories. Lets hope for the best for Sally & Kay.Second best part was NO PRATT in opening credits. Just to tell you.

          • charlie bracken

I just watched it OMG I loved the show, that brought me back to when I first started watching 14 years ago. Loved the scenes between jack and Tracy, have to hand it to her for trying to get Jack ot listen.

          • ScottinPhilly

Yes, and then you see Charles Pratt also listed at EP. CP is responsible for writing, so thanks for proving the point.

This is the second week of a ratings rise. We will likely see a small dip in the next report and then a gradual rise from the next week reported and going forward.

          • charlie bracken

Thank you Scottin, Exactly I see their numbers bottoming out next week But as bad, they will rise soon but it’s going to take time.

    • TG

keep in mind Charles Pratt’s material was still airing during the week. a lot of people are waiting for sally and Kay’s writing to start.

  • JayTN

Some other Thanksgiving week daytime numbers:

NCAA: Nebraska at Iowa (ABC Friday, 4pm): 4.17 million viewers
NCAA: Houston at Memphis (ABC Friday, 12:00pm): 3.09 million viewers
The View (ABC): 3.05 million viewers [3-day average]
NCAA: Washington at Washington State (Fox Friday, 3:30pm): 2.82 million viewers
The Talk (CBS): 2.77 million viewers [3-day average]
NCAA: Arkansas at Missouri (CBS Friday, 2:30pm): 2.50 million viewers

  • cab

Some of the male viewers are just as passionate about their show as the female viewers. Some of the guys talk about the problems with their show like sport fans talk about their favourite team,

    • gabeforsoaps

More shirtless men or woman (depending on which team you are on) will help all male viewers tune in.

    • unfairreality

Yes and when males complain and fight about their sports its more acceptable. Where as soap viewers (mostly woman) are considered “hostile” and/or “bitches” when they complain or disagree. Its very unfair. Its almost like the race card. Certain race of people are quickly labeled negatively when they try to make a point or have unity where as other race of people are viewed more positively when they have pride and/or are against something and riot through the streets. The majority of people are so sick of these double standards in life in terms of race, gender, religious affiliations and sexual orientation. For ex, One soap kills a gay character and it is attacked on social media as being homophobic! Meanwhile soaps have been killing off “straight” characters for years!

  • staypostive

I hope that all the ratings for soaps will increase for the remainder of 2016 and all of 2017.

  • scott16475

Before everyone gets too excited about this uptick in the soaps ratings, we all need to remember that soaps tend to increase in viewership around the end of the year/holidays. More people are home and soaps tend to be nostalgic for a lot of individuals around Christmas time. After the first of January and people go back to their day to day lives most – if not all of the soaps – will go down in the ratings and reality will set in. It’s just the way it is.

  • Lula

There is no sweeps anymore. Hasn’t been a thing for a few years now. The only place sweeps are mentioned anymore is on the soap message boards by the ratings hounds

  • jesse

Enjoyed Y&R with Sally as head writer,it had some great moments with the Abbott breakfast, memories of John in flashbacks hopefully the ghost stuff is done. The characters acted like they did when Billy was there. It’s great to have Traci back, can’t wait to see Gloria again.

    • FoxyRoxyy

Reminded me of Bill Bell’s BORING writing. Boring boring boring. Spice it up!

      • richie

Do us all a favor, no matter what Y&R does, you have criticism. Do us a favor, if you are so unsatisfied with Y&R, just STOP watching, if you really do, You will not be missed & the ratings will likely not be affected by your leaving. GEEZ, you are a prize, One day, & you are already critical. GET A LIFE.

        • FoxyRoxyy

Don’t concern yourself about what I do, sweetie.

      • richie

And PS. to quote YOU, you are LOSING IT….

  • jesse

How funny someone talking about boring writing when they post the exact same thing week after week.Bill Bell is a legend you are a troll.

    • richie

Like I said to others in the past, I don’t believe this person watches, or rarely watches Y&R. I also enjoyed the Wed. show. A little hint of the old Y&R. Good Luck to Sally & Kay, it will take a while to write around phase out Pratts stories.

      • jesse

Agree Wednesday was good Sally/Kay/Mal will make a great team.If someone has a different opinion fine, after awhile I just blocked that person bc they write the same thing every week.

  • scott16475

I was home this past Monday and caught the very beginning of Y&R. I want to say upfront that I don’t watch the show so what I’m about to write is coming from someone who hasn’t seen a second of an episode in years and years and years, but it gave me an entirely new perspective on the other 4 shows.

I was watching something that was on before Y&R and when it ended and Y&R began, I wasn’t readily available to change the channel. The scene showed 4 characters standing in a hospital hallway arguing over whether or not a child was allergic to strawberries. The entire scene was about allergies to strawberries. And the production value seemed very cheap.

With that said, we know Y&R is not a cheap production and although I couldn’t believe strawberry allergies was the drama on this #1 show, I changed the channel with a new perspective. When we watch a few minutes or an entire episode of a show that we don’t typically watch, sets may look cheap, not because it really is cheap but simply because we’re not used to that particular lighting, set, production. The same goes for the storyline. I’m sure someone found the allergy/strawberry conversation riveting but from a non-viewer, it wasn’t.

What I’m saying is; we may view a show as ‘poor’ simply because it’s not what we’re used to. I’m going to stop bashing the quality of Days because I don’t watch but a minute or two once or twice a year so it’s not fair for me to call the show cheap and a high school production when in reality, it may not be.
