  • Secret Squirrel

As much as i’m enjoying the performances in the Sully/Christian reveal, now it’s just counting down the days until these cloak and dagger Pratt stories are over.

    • charlie bracken

same here, the reveal it self story wise was just bad. I feel for Sharon getting raked over the coals by Pratt’s bad Taste in storytelling. Kay and Sally have their work cut out for them

      • richie

At least the reveal is over, finally, not as bad as I thought it could be. Hopefully, Sharon will not implode when Dylan goes bye bye..My guess is Sally & Kay will work out the Adam-Christian connection, unless Pratt has something “else” in store for us. I’m glad Gloria & Tracie will be returning to GC, thanks for that can go to Mal & the new writers I’m sure.

        • charlie bracken

Right i just thought it would go out with a Bang instead For me it was a dud, Poor Sharon was once again raked over the coals for one of Pratt’s bad plots. YES Thank god for Mal, The Man has done wonders the past few months. Kay and Sally have a long road ahead of them to rebuild the show, it’s going to take a while.

        • Amie

Its like Christmas.Im soo ready for new storylines.

    • Amie

Its getting good now the Christian is reveal.

      • charlie bracken

The whole thing was just Poorly written and it didn’t have that Huge wow factor to it it was like okay Nick knows moving on. Sharon was raked over the coals once again, she told Nick what happened but he didn’t listen to her he just went on one of His rants and made Sharon out to be the bad guy when in fact she was the Victim.

  • lctoot

Nice to see most soaps up in viewers.

  • diuran

Those numbers don’t look good for Days but they brought this upon themselves.

SSM and Kay are going to have their work cut out for them with trying to sort out Pratt’s awful messes.

    • charlie bracken

IA Sally and kay do have their work cut out for them, This mess isn’t going to go away that quickly I see it taking a few months before everything is back to normal.

      • Secret Squirrel

Bringing Traci and Gloria back is a nice start.

        • charlie bracken

yes it is, hopefully it will work.

        • TV&MovieBuff

Traci coming back was still part of Pratt’s writing. And I don’t see how anyone can say bring back Gloria is a good thing. That character is one of the worst things that happened to Y&R when Latham and MAB let her character almost eat the show. The club Gloworm and all should have never been taken away from Neil in some silly plot point just to give Gloria more to do on the show. Out of all the stuff I have not enjoyed on the show in the last year or two — Gloria being gone was definitely one of the highlights. I say starting off by bringing her back is a bad beginning for me. I would have a whole lot rather had Gina back — then that would have been a NICE start.

          • Secret Squirrel

That’s your opinion. I’m glad they’re bring back the Baldwin/Fisher stories. The LML years were even worse than these Pratt ones IMO.

          • TV&MovieBuff

I agree they were even worse in many ways and part of that was the Baldwin and Fisher stories. The only time Gloria was ever a viable character was the version written while Joan Van Ark was portraying her. After that Gloria became more and more useless and so has Kevin. They were good characters that much like many others were totally ruined by Latham, MAB, Griffith, and Pratt. There are many other characters I would rather see repaired and corrected long before Gloria.

          • Secret Squirrel

I read and respect your opinion on this site TV&MB but on this we’ll have to agree to disagree.

  • Amie

YAYY Y&R Its finally getting good.November will be the last month for Charles work.

    • Salem Spectator

It doesn’t matter if it’s good or not because the ratings can go up or down regardless.

  • robert

yikes Days, they only have themselves to blame. Y&R continues to lose younger viewers, thank god the end of Pratt at Y&R is near. Sally really has her work cut out for her

    • charlie bracken

Yes she does, The whole sharon story was juts awful

  • TV&MovieBuff

Where is our resident Days cheerleader who was making posts last week about how Days was the only show to gain last week while all the other shows lost. Where are you this week?

MMMMM……looking at all the categories …… looks like Days lost in all of them this week. Even in all those darned old demo categories too that you preached to us about last week.

    Boy isn’t karma a b***ch some times.

I’ve always hated posts like these but when someones goes so out of their way to constantly attack other shows and by making posts clearly attaching them with works like YawneR and the like….I just don’t feel bad when their words come back to bite them in the butt.

    • truth

Oh please don’t call the troll..

      • Salem Spectator

Troll? Am I the one you were referring to in the previous ratings thread? I can assure you the person you were arguing with isn’t me. That thread became so hostile that I didn’t want to respond.

      • Salem Spectator

I’m sorry, I mistook you as lulu. That is if the two of you are different people.

        • truth

no, i have just one name : truth.

    • Salem Spectator

      There’s always next week.

    • Salem Spectator

Why didn’t you ask where the trash is? You had no problem referring to me as “trash” in last week’s thread. More power to the soaps who have gains, YawneR and all.

    • Paul

Days is doomed only thing that can save them is if they have a huge Nov sweeps and gain something like 300,000 viewers or something they can barley gained 1000 lol i don’t see it happening especially looking at the spoilers as well coming up they look flat to me. Demos gone down again as well i wonder what Corday must be thinking about this having changed writers again and telling how great Days would be in Sep in a recent interview i bet he never expected Days still to tank.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Mal Young’s numbers have been TERRIBLE! Look at all those negatives from last year!!!!!!

    • charlie bracken

Still going after Mal are we? Honestly These are PRATT’s NUMBERS , are you too blind too see The Man Has been Bleeding viewers for what Months even before Mal was announced he would take over for JFP this past summer. What do People expect out of the Man Huh a Miracle on 34th street?! Sorry But IMO The EP is only as strong as the HW, In this case Pratt isn’t “strong” His stories have not Made their Numbers go up even with the Baby Reveal I don’t expect that to be a Huge ratings Buster which is fine It was Poorly written anyway. IF CBS Or Sony didn’t think Mal was up for the Job They wouldn’t have Hired HIM But they did and he is getting Raked over the coals for what Not Living up to the fans Standards of Pulling in Great and wonderful Numbers?!

      • FoxyRoxyy

Mal is the Executive Producer. He is in charge of the entire show, including the writing. And your logic about how CBS and Sony wouldn’t have hired him if he wasn’t up for the job – they also hired, Pratt, Phelps, Arena Bell, Latham, etc. Were they all up for the job? Mal’s version of Y&R is down over 300,000 viewers from last year. That is substantial.

        • charlie bracken

REALLY now, I mean when JFP was still around everyone complained about her and the Fact the Numbers were down during her time so don’t try and sell Methis BS. I mean The numbers for the show have been like this for Months, Pratt hasn’t written a decent enough story to Pull the fans in and make them watch. MAL on the other hand Can ONLY DO so much even if he does rewrite some of the scripts will it make it better or worse? I give the man Credit, he has given it his best shot the production side has gotten Much better but The writing is what holding him back, Once Kay and Sally start it’s going to be a while before everything is back to normal.

          • FoxyRoxyy

Charlie, you never seem to address the fact that Mal’s version of Y&R is down 300,000 viewers from last year. Mal Young is not bringing in any new viewers.

          • charlie bracken

I think you mean Mal’s Vision ,why should I address the Fact Mal was given this “Mess” back in early/June Late July when JFP was Let go. NO one slammed her Vision when the show was losing viewers NO They all defended the lady. But Mal can’t bring in the viewers why It’s called PRATT!! He can’t write anything that is going to make the Viewer watch, I mean this Reveal with the baby was Just bad. The show is a Mess Period Is it Mal’s Fault NO, It’s all Pratt.

          • FoxyRoxyy

Sorry Charlie. Mal is down 300,000 viewers from last year. He is the Executive Producer. He has a say in storylines. Mal has failed so far. I give him a F-

          • charlie bracken

Give him a “F” OH really I give him a “B” IN my book. I’m sorry But blaming the man who BTW was given this train wreck after JFP was fired and has tried to rebuild what JFP and PRATT have done in the past two years is Wonderful. If you want give him a failing Grade Fine but I’m giving him a chance to prove himself First before throwing him under the Bus, IMO I still Blame PRATT But you think It’s all Mal. Yes he Has a say in what is Put on the screen true But If you remember Pratt was still his Co-EP before he was let go not long ago, so even if Mal wanted to change direction He probably couldn’t. I don’t blame him for letting Pratt’s crap run it’s course, I mean what do the fans expect a Miracle here?! Also don’t forget The show tapes what 5 months ahead so everything we are seeing is Pratt Until Kay and sally blow in the second week of December.

      • TV&MovieBuff

Well then by your logic Phelps should have never lost her job then. She wasn’t responsible for anything that happened during her tenure because she is not a writer. So the ratings were Griffith’s, Passanante/Altmans, and Pratt’s numbers and not Phelps. But all of you sure loved to blame Phelps. If Phelps was responsible for what Pratt did or any of her writers then so is Mal Young.

Mal has been there long enough now to have made changes in the writing. He came in and went straight to work on the production side. The writing was the main problem. That is where he should have started work at. So even I can understand people’s frustrations with him in that sense. He has done some great work on production so far, but the average viewer is not going to care about most of that. They care about the stories and they stink.

        • charlie bracken

True TV But my Logic is this Everyone around here wants to put the blame for the Numbers directly on Mal, When The show’s “numbers” have been like this for almost two years sure they have had their Ups and downs But this is Just Bad. Putting the Blame on one person that being (MAL) isn’t going to solve the shows problems it has, as I pointed out your EP is only as strong as your HW (Pratt isn’t cutting the Mustard). I mean seriously what do the fans Honestly want huh your getting Two ladies next month who BTW worked with Bill and have knowledge of the show’s history.

          • TV&MovieBuff

But you are one to preach to say that fans shouldn’t put all the blame on one person. Every post out of your computer for at least a year has been everything at Y&R’s fault is Pratt’s fault. When it wasn’t….it was a lot of people’s fault and not just his. It was his, Sony’s, Jill’s, etc. It is more than one persons and the same way that it will be in the coming months. But Mal is not blameless in all this either and you have come off as wanting no one to blame him at all and making excuses for him. When he made the choice to come in and ignore what Pratt is doing and just let it play out. He is responsible for his own choices and he can be held accountable for them.

And yes you are right that Kay and Sally both worked with Bill and know the history of the show but even with them and how great they are — they are not flawless. They need a strong EP who is going to have to tell them no and keep them on track too. After all Sally is the one if I remember correctly who took credit for coming up with the Phelia story. That is one of the worst ever in Y&R history. And Kay Alden is I remember correctly was responsible Victor’s spermgate story which was so bad.

There have been so many steps in the right direction but without strong people to oversee them it can all go wrong — even with the right people in place.

          • charlie bracken

M e “PREACH” Oh that’s rich Coming from you, I mean God for bid someone should have an “opinion” on a certain subject and get racked over the coals. I mean what Could Mal do really re write everything Pratt did would it have been for the better Maybe or could have made it worse. Kay , Bill Even Sally have their Bad stories what HW doesn’t, PRATT on the other hand couldn’t write anything decent enough to Pull in the Viewers every week. Jack smith for example He rewrote Jill and Kay’s History by making them Family, The fans didn’t Like that very much.

      • richie

This is just another poster who is NOT watching, I am convinced. They just look at the numbers & type whatever comes into their brain(?) I’ve learned who to ignore on this site.

        • charlie bracken

exactly, The show as it is right now is still a mess.

      • jonboy

The baby reveal was anti climactic. And now tieing it into that stupid GC Buzz???!! For my $$$ the only actors who excelled in it were Camryn Grimes and Josh Morrow. Sharon, whose storyline it was, gets a D- in my book.

  • Salem Spectator

DOOL is down in the ratings, but not out. As far as I’m concerned it’s entertaining and people are wrong to suggest that because they don’t like something then others are lying about liking something.

If people don’t like DOOL, that’s fine, but don’t say I’m lying about liking it. Different strokes for different folks!

I’m far from displeased with DOOL on the screen, but am displeased with it’s ratings.

    • Paul

I agree everyone has a opinion you like Days now i respect that just like when i loved Days because of Ejami but end of the day numbers are not good and they don’t improve big time over the next few weeks the show could be axed. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled but Days is in big danger this time because usually by Nov sweeps most years they well over 2.5 million viewers they not even at 2.2 million this time and show no sign of gaining big bumps in viewers at all.

    • rememberwhentrump

My friend had very similar statements but he was talking about Trump and not a soap.

    • vivien

It’s depressing to see GH getting better ratings than DAYS, when GH is so boring I’ve decided to quit watching again. Just in time for November sweeps! DAYS’ Orpheus stuff was dumb but it was fun to see this villain back, chewing the scenery, with John&Marlena, Patch&Kayla, Justin&Adrienne .. DAYS makes really good use of their vets, and GH does not. GH forces newbies down our throats and puts them front and center. They glorify the mob to the detriment of every other character. And yet they have higher ratings. I don’t get it.

      • truth

The Day’s vets are generic and boring, their stories of ‘do not wrong hero versus uber vilain’ are outdated, that’s why !!

        • vivien

Oh c’mon, and GH’s vets aren’t generic and boring? Sonny and the whole Corinthos clan? ‘Do everything wrong anti-hero’ but gets away with it every time? While the keystone cops posture and make a big noise but are ultimately inept. Including Anna. And GH has had its share of overacting ‘uber villains’, most recently Paul and Valentin. I’ve had enough of this nonsense.

          • truth

I never said GH was great, but Days and its generic vets is not better, that is all. And while GH is bad, the dialogue, the cast is not as dull as on Days. And if you have ‘enough of this nonsense on GH, it should be the same for Days..be logic..On Days the keystone cops posture is as inept as on GH. All the things you dislike on GH are here on Days but with an even more generic and dull vibe..

          • vivien

Fair enough. Bottom line, we all have different reasons for liking a soap. Mine is the relationships between the characters, especially the love stories. DAYS has four of its most legendary pairings onscreen right now, while GH has none that I care about. Not a fan of the mob if you can’t tell, lol. I don’t care about the dumb plots, because soaps have always had dumb plots. I watch for the characters. If I don’t like them – or don’t recognize them anymore because they’ve been retconned so much – I lose interest in watching.

          • truth

I understand and get your point. To me both soaps suck for similar AND different reasons and i always found Days too much conservative, except for some exceptions, for my taste..

  • Paul

These must the worst new writers Days ever had lol no gains at all in two months their stuff started end of August we nearly in Nov and i thinks Days ratings are lower than when they took over. Say what you like about Tomsell even at their worst spell they never did as bad as this Dena should of being out the door with JG. If Days had to change writers again they should got a whole new writing team not of kept her to me i don’t feel sorry for Corday the guy is a clown.

    • JayTN

Writer’s roulette is a sure sign that a series is in danger. I remember reading that “Search for Tomorrow” had more head writers during its time on NBC (four years) than it had during its long run on CBS (31 years).

  • monzo

Anybody knows how Days is doing compared to the rest of NBC’s daytime? Maybe it’s above average for NBC standards, so it’s kind of safe right now….

    • tiyg

Good question…based on a quick google search the only good ratings in the key demographic I saw made by NBC daytime are The Today Show and The Ellen Show. One site even had them the major networks daytime as follows: CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC.

      • JayTN

“Ellen” is syndicated and does not air as part of NBC Daytime while Fox does not have any network daytime series. The only other NBC daytime series is the 9am and 10am hours of “Today”.

The last numbers I saw for the 9am hour of “Today” was back in Sept. 2014 when it had between 2.8 million and 3 million viewers. The 10am hour of “Today” (featuring Kathie Lee & Hoda) back in January 2016 had between 2.5 million and 2.7 million viewers.

        • monzo

Does this mean NBC (or its local stations) airs different shows as lead-in and lead-out around the country? What is Days’ lead-in and lead-out in your area?

          • TV&MovieBuff

I don’t know about Jay’s area but in my area of the country it is the Today show, then an hour of Local news, and then Days. At least as far as I know. I have not had cable or satellite for over a year now but that is the way it was then, and I have not heard anyone say it had changed.

          • JayTN

That is correct. Where I live, “Days” (which airs at 1pm) lead-in is “Hot Bench” and is followed by “Harry” at 2pm.

          • Salem Spectator

DOOL is on just past 1am in the whole state of Utah. Am I correct in understanding that the reason is because the Mormon Church owns the NBC station there and they don’t agree with the gay storylines? Also would they do the same to B&B if they owned the CBS station, being that B&B has a storyline involving a shemale?

          • JayTN

“Days” does air at 1am (MT) on KSL-TV in Utah. KSL is the only NBC affiliate in the state of Utah, so it services the entire state. KSL-TV has been a thorn in the side of NBC for years. KSL also refused to air “Saturday Night Live” but relented a couple of years ago and have either refused to air other so-called controversial series (such as NBC’s comedy “The New Normal” from a few years back) or aired them in the over night hours.

I don’t know what KSL would do with B&B, although KSL was affiliated with CBS until 1995 when it switched to NBC. Personally, I believe that viewers should get the choice to either support or reject any given series, regardless of any so-called controversial storylines. Furthermore, I am not in favor of any religious denomination – the Latter Day Saints (or Mormon) Church in this case – owning a broadcast or entertainment entity and using that entity to further any kind of religious agenda.

  • Alex

I wonder what would happen if they kept Y&R and B&B in the same time slot, but moved Days to the two o’clock time slot and GH back to three. That’s how it used to be back when there was 10+ soaps on. However, they are on different networks. Days would compete against The Talk and GH would be against Lets Make a Deal, but it could be something different. Maybe it could create interest in soaps again? They shouldn’t be competing against each other with only four soaps on nowadays.

    • jackiez

I think it depends in what area of the country you are. For ex, in NY GH is at 3 pm and does not compete against Lets make a Deal. It airs against Ellen, Dr Phil, and TMZ. Days airs at 1pm and competes with 1/2 of Y&R, BB, Dr Oz and the Chew. I doubt any changes in time would make a significant difference in ratings.

  • jesse

Days filming schedule will always be a negative.Bad storylines and actors,Corday,Higley doesn’t look well.Halloween had Kayla in a coffin and I’m wondering how many ridiculous things has she gone through in the past yr.I won’t be surprised if she has another near fatal illness and has that head wrap on her head again.Just what viewers want more Rope. One of the worst couples ever.GH is similar to Days actor’s character dies then they come back playing a new character, bring in new character that doesn’t seem right then they disappear.

    • baddays

And now Chloe is carrying Nicole’s and Daniels baby? What for? Was Nicole and Daniel a fan favorite Super Couple or something? He already has two children that were on the show. Perhaps I am missing something. I tuned in to see Kim and Shane…Is that is how they are sending off Teresa? I got to admit these writers are pretty bad. They should both be fired.

      • Salem Spectator

Not everything is as it seems. Because the baby is supposed to be Nicole and Daniel’s, Eric will be the father. I’m guessing he’s the “drunk” who caused problems at the fertility clinic.

        • vivien

I like the way you think! 😀

  • JBT

I anxiously await the new writing regime at Y&R. As I watched the big Sully reveal this week it occurs to me that just as Dylan is about to written off of Y&R he has finally grown on me. That always happens to me with the newcomers on Days as well. Anyway, a new chapter begins next month and while there’s some definite damage in the demo ratings they are holding total viewers so I think unlike other shows that were irreparable after Pratt, Y&R will bounce back with Sally, Kay and Mal.

    • charlie bracken

IA 100% y&r will come back, Kay and sally have their work cut out for them once thye start.

      • JBT

There are many aspects of the show that have changed over the last 10 years. I know the writing and storytelling will improve but it will also be interesting to see what will happen stylistically. Once upon a time the scenes would Segway into eachother. They had a formula where they would focus on a set of characters with intertwined storylines. Now they seeem to patch everything together. As I said, anxiously awaiting.

Right everything at this happening right now isn’t focusing on the character it’s More plot then anything else which isn’t helping moving the story along. Like I said Both Kay And sally have their work cut out for them , I don’t see any real big changes until Maybe January if that I could be wrong.

I remember when it was a half hour show and many characters never interacted with each other. Made sense. I mean, do you know everybody in your town?

Charlie, a little off topic, but just read on another site, DC, M. Muhney (Adam #2) alluded, he may be on his way back to GC. Phelps gone & Summer off contract given as some reasons. Who knows, but I’ve always said Adam, was on that plane when it left that airstrip. Just saying….If this is true, I am sure Mal, Sally & Kay are behind this. Have you seen or heard of this anywhere?

I heard that too but nothing has been mentioned so I think it’s rumor at this point.

About YR, I don’t agree with all the praise about Kay Alden here. She was the HW that was obsessed with Victor’s sperm. LOL!!!! That was when YR jumped the shark for me. Sally Sussman, after I learned she created Generations sounds like a good choice. Can’t comment on Mai. However, I have posted on various message boards though out the years, and one constant with YR’s fans is that the whoever the HW is at the time, they got to go.
Compare that to BB where my complaints have always been directed at only one person – Brad (my dad created this show, so therefore I have this job), Bell. I don’t know how many HW’s DOOL or GH fans have complained about.

So sick of these low numbers for Days. I am happy with what they are doing and excited for what they have in store. Wish there were more viewers like myself.

Days brought this on itself when it deliberately chose to toss out some of its own fans and told them that they no longer needed or wanted them anymore and playing favorites while firing actors who didn’t do anything wrong at all other than not be one of the current writers favorite pets hasn’t helped either.

I watch Days and one day it is good and one day it is bad. It is like they switch writing teams daily. I have not given up on watching. But i do notice I tune one day and its a bore and the next day or two is great.
