It’s been the hottest rumor of the summer, but now it is official, (ex-Billy Abbott, ““) is joining the cast of ABC’s “” in the contract role of Jason Morgan.

“I am really excited to be working with such a talented and acclaimed actor as Billy,” said executive producer Frank Valentini. “Our cast is thrilled that he will  be joining our ‘General Hospital’ family, and I know that he will be an amazing addition to our talented cast.”

Miller’s joining “GH” has been of daytime since TV Guide’s Michael Logan tweeted in June that Miller would soon be joining the cast.

The role of Jason was previously portrayed by actor Steve Burton, who is currently appearing on “Y&R” as Dylan McAvoy.

No first air date olr tape date has been set for Miller at this time.

Well this was certainly one of the worst kept secrets. Primetime never came calling? Perhaps they will pair Jason Q. with Nina.

    • Andrew Hass

I read in the July 7th issue of SOD that Billy Miller likes the consistency and normal working hours of being on soap.Plus i read somewhere else that the reason he didn’t resign with Y&R was not because he wanted more outs to do other stuff but how much time he wanted to tell the show he was leaving if and when he wanted to exercise his out clause. So it seems to me that Billy Miler likes doing soaps but he wants the freedom to do other stuff too. However i do wonder if he signed a long term contract with GH but with outs in it.

      • http://unknown.com Bexx

To be honest, I think he likes the consistency of a steady paycheck. Since leaving Y&R he’s only been offered a few minor roles, many not even worth mentioning. I think he came to the realization that Hollywood didn’t come calling as quickly as he hoped. Someone who is expecting to move into the the major leagues wouldn’t sign on to play a core character under a regime known for showcases their new breeds. Like you, I too am curious to hear from the “insiders” regarding the duration of his contract.

        • Fox

I think he just likes to keep busy and act. And from what I’ve read, when it comes to steady paychecks, he’s also a successful businessman with an entirely separate company (called 4M) having nothing to do with acting.

          • http://unknown.com Bexx

Perhaps he should have focused more on his successful company, rather than primetime, or the glitter of Hollywood since neither one came calling. Then again, GH was desperate to have him, now everyone can finally move on.

          • sands of time

Moving on could be bad for Y&R (or whatever I choose to call it)…There certainly is a lot of buzz about Billy Miller, which can’t be good for The Young and the Restless. On the flip side, Y&R does have Steve Burton, but he may be causing the cast members to jump ship. Several people are saying he is JFP’s pet. If Michael Muhney joins GH, how can Y&R survive?

          • TV&MovieBuff

With the 4, 468, 000 fans who still watch Y&R even without Billy Miller and Michael Muhney and Michelle Stafford in the cast.

          • http://unknown.com Bexx

Didn’t you hear they are all jumping ship AGAIN.

          • fanny

I’ve been reading many of your comments and it almost feels like you are working for Y&R…You keep ridiculing the actors for leaving a slowly sinking ship that is Y&R. Jill Farren Phelps is the iceberg that’s creating this wreckage, just like she did to GH. I’m sad that all of these actors left Y&R, whether they wanted it or not, but I’m happy, some of them are finding work elsewhere, whether it’s daytime or primetime. Work is work! I was a big fan of Y&R, but now I hardly recognize it and that too, saddens me…
YES, I’ll be watching Billy Miller’s introduction to GH, just like I did with Michelle Stafford. I have missed them so much on Y&R, but I do enjoy Michelle Stafford’s Nina on GH and I’m sure I will enjoy Billy Miller as well. Anything is better than the 2 NU-Billys, or the ever-boring Dylan.on Y&R. Sorry!

        • Andrew Hass

I see no problem with Billy Miller liking a steady paycheck. This way he has a job and he might have the freedom to do other stuff too.So it might be a win win for him.Plus in the 7th issue of SOD it said Billy while on Y&R liked the camaraderie with his co-stars.Plus it could be interesting to see if he did sign a multi-year deal with GH and not one with Y&R.

          • http://unknown.com Bexx

Andrew, I never said it was a problem for him to have a steady paycheck. It’s wonderful that he has found work, but I don’t think he’s at GH for his love of the genre, no matter what SOD prints. I think the ABC bosses offered him a great deal, which clearly works for him, and that’s great. The true test will be if he’s still apart of the show 4-5 years from now considering how badly he wants to pursue “other” things.

          • Andrew Hass

For the record GH may not be on the air 4-5 years from now. Plus it seemed to me that Billy Miller wanted to stay at Y&R and would have if he and the show had come to terms on certain things. As for him signing with GH i think it was just a matter of time before that happened with all the rumors going around. So this deal might have been in the works for awhile but some of the details had to be ironed out.

          • TV&MovieBuff

Yes he wanted to stay at Y&R but on his terms. And fans applaud that when it is when one of their favorites. When Peter Reckell and Ronn Moss wanted to stay on their shows by their own terms many fans said they should have bit the bullet and gave up what they wanted for the sake of their show. The shows can no longer afford to give in to every demand of every actor on these shows. They don’t have the budget for it anymore.

          • Andrew Hass

I never said that Y&R should have given into Billy Miller’s demands whatever they were.Whatever happened both Y&R and Billy Miller have moved on it seems.Y&R has gotten who they wanted as Billy and Billy Miller it looks like got what he wanted at GH.

  • sands of time

This is such good news…Billy Miller and JFP&SB had a falling out, so Billy Miller is taking over the SB role on General Hospital. It looks like GH and Billy Miller are having the last laugh!

Congrats, General Hospital and Billy Miller!!

  • Andrew Hass

I knew this was coming about Billy Miller was joining GH.However the show may have just been waiting time for the right time to announce it.

  • sands of time

If you’re tired of being a YawneR and you love Billy Miller, isn’t it time you visit General Hospital? General hospital will cure your boredom! Goodbye Steve Burton…Hello Billy Miller!!!

  • sands of time

Y&R cast members must view JFP & Steve Burton as a mean old lady and vicious lap dog!!

  • sands of time

The MM rumblings must be true!

    • Roberta

I hope so. All we need now is Michael Muhney and all will be right with the worlkd.

    • David

I hope not GH dont need his behind the scenes drama that he brings

    • Andrew Hass

I like Michael Muhney as an actor but i don’t see him on GH or any soap for that matter in the near future.Yeah he might be innocent of what he was accused of doing with Hunter King but that doesn’t mean any soap would want that controversy. So ithink he should tackle prime time now where be can start fresh sort of and not have his reputation follow him.

  • don

Well congratulations Miller, welcome to port charles best of luck in your new role and job u will deliver.

  • nyvoter

Congratulations to Billy Miller and to General Hospital. I simply loved that little “twitter chat” between Frank and Ron earlier today announcing the deal… I’m hopelessly in love with “Cartini” and the magic they bring forth in #GH. I think BM will work right into the marvelous and multi-talented #GH cast and I’m looking forward to watching it all unfold. There were so many rumors but, until today’s official confirmation, one simply could not be sure. Who knows what is real and what is imagined by so many folks who most likely have very little inside information. Regardless of what BM has been and will be offered in the world beyond soaps, he does not want his aspirations limited … and I can certainly understand that stance. Of course, being under contract offers benefits but constrains such aspirations (although these one-sided contracts are so weakly created wherein the network can back out of any contract for any reason (or no reason at all) every 13 weeks. So BM is using his talent and acclaim to grab a bit of that golden goose for himeself. From what has been speculated (assuming this is true) the negotiations did not concern the amount of “outs” he wanted but the time he had to give before activating such an “out”; and, apparently, he and #GH were able to come to terms. #GH’s style is somewhat free-wheeling, s/ls are easily pealed off, rotated and backburnered then revisited, because, in my opinion, the creativity of Carlivati and Valentini spin multi s/ls and engaging twists and turns as easily as I can slice an apple, LOL

    • http://unknown.com Bexx

Amazing that someone like you can consider yourself hopelessly in love with Carlivati considering his nasty Twitter antics, and poor treatment of fans. It’s sad when ABC has to get involved because he doesn’t know how to conduct himself. I’m sure it’s likely you missed those Twitter chats.

      • Andrew Hass

I don’t condone Ron Carlivati’s behavior but i think that it’s nice that he and Frank Valentini interact with the fans through Twitter.

        • http://unknown.com Bexx

There is no point of interacting with fans if criticism of your work leads to petty nastiness. Basically telling fans that in order for them to get their couple they have to kiss your ass is not something a HW should be doing.

      • nyvoter

Yeah, I really don’t interact too much on twitter …. first and foremost, there are too many spoilers provided and I simply like to watch each day unfold without “details.” Secondly, twitter for the most part is unsupervised and I find some tweets beyond the pale for me. I was pulled into the “Cartini chat” through the news of Billy Miller but I rarely venture into soap twitter to any great degree. So, I have missed any such twitter chats, and I’m glad I did because I do not want the personal antics of any one person spoiling the talent and creativity they are capable of delivering. When I said I was hopelessly in love with “Cartini” I was referring to the creative combined talents of Ron and Frank. Now, we may not agree on their talents but I absolutely do agree with you about not appreciating anyone’s unkindness.

    • Andrew Hass

I agree.Plus on GH right now there’s a lot of different stories going on.So as one story gets backburnered another is ready to move to the frontburner.Plus i’m thinking we may not see Jason in Port Charles until November or so and until then we might mostly see him at that clinic. Also it wouldn’t surprise me if they did something similar with Miller’s first scene as Jason as they did with Michelle Stafford’s Nina. For example maybe a quick scene at the end of an episode or something.

      • nyvoter

You are probably right, Andrew, as far as timing goes … I do not think we will see Jason in Port Charles before the November sweeps, although, as you state, perhaps we will see him before then in the clinic.

        • Andrew Hass

Plus maybe Billy Miller’s first scenes are with Kimberly McCullough’s Robin and that way the show can reintroduce Jason through a character we know and care about.Plus Jason and Robin have history together and the show could use that to their advantage somehow.

      • Elizabeth_Erwin

Stories are dropped for months at a time and then just kink of evaporate into meaninglessness. Not too many GH viewers love that. You do realize that the ratings have completely stagnated there…..

  • mom chez

Looking forward to seeing Billy Miller on screen. Maybe his coming will raise GH ratings. Haven’t watched Y&R since his last scene. Have been watching GH, so am ready for BM arrival.

    • http://unknown.com Bexx

“Maybe his coming will raise GH ratings.”

People thought the same when Stafford showed up, and now all you have are GHers complaining that Nina is eating all the air time, and that their precious vets are MIA.

      • RobNYC

Seems the long time fans are complaining about Stafford taking airtime. As a new viewer to GH I have to say she is a huge draw. It is like watching Phyllis untamed.

  • RobNYC

I am happy for GH. Just as casting Michele Stafford was a success, I am sure the presence of Billy Miller will give GH some new life. I am also very happy with NEW BILLY at Y&R. I think the show has grabbed the opportunity to up the game of Billy since changing actors. I was getting very tired of watching the character of Billy flattened to nothing but a irresponsible, drunk loser. Now both shows are able to roll the dice and add a new dimension and face lift to popular but once tired characters through recasting. I am sure both shows will thrive this Fall and I wish Miller the best at GH.

    • nyvoter

I agree with you, Rob, on all counts. When I watched Y&R, I found Billy Abbott’s character rather handcuffed and one dimensional. I have not seen Burgess Jenkins’ portrayal of Billy, but I have seen BJs acting ability and I am sure he is doing a fine job with “Billy”; just as I am sure that BM will thrive on #GH. As you elegantly stated, both actors are “pros” and both shows will surely be the benefactors of “exciting casting decisions.”

      • RobNYC

He is a great Billy. Worth checking out. The whole cast seems like a good fit now. I am glad for the change in Billy’s.

    • Anita Mabardy

Casting Michelle Stafford was a success???? Seriously? She is awful, both the actress and the character she plays. Her sickening toothy fake smile, her jittery, run-on dialogue delivery, her annoyingly excessive air time, she is awful, and most GH fans FF through ALL her scenes.

      • RobNYC

I do think Michelle Stafford had been a success at GH. She is a close duplicate to Phyllis when she was first on YR before she was tamed. It brought over YR viewers like myself to GH for the first time. Soaps are a balancing act, new and old blood are important.

        • nyvoter

I agree, Rob, both with your comments on MS and the required “balancing act”

      • Andrew Hass

How do you know what other GH fans do when they watch the show?People on the message boards might say they FF through all of Nina’s scenes but that might just be a small sampling of GH’s audience.

        • nyvoter

Once again, Andrew, I totally agree with you. The only worse qualifiers than “MOST” is “EVERYBODY,” “ALL,” “NONE” … all these absolutes as if any one person, group of persons, tweets, message board postings can in any way, shape or form speak for MOST. I, for one, completely enjoy Nina’s scenes, speaking for myself only (and that is all I am qualified to comment on … myself).

        • PhoenixRizing

ITA w/ Angie! I want GH to put her BACK into a coma! She is BEYOND IRRITATING! She’s like nails on a chalkboard!

      • sweetchuck

I agree! She’s terrible, but in a way it kind of works for the character. She acts like a child.

  • TV&MovieBuff

I am happy for Billy Miller and I do think he is a good actor, but I am not going to run over and start back watching GH just because they hired him. I quit watching GH because of the writing and I don’t see that changing just because they hired Billy Miller.

  • http://unknown.com Bexx

Buzz? LOL. An article with less than 25 comments, 5 of those from a troll, and the rest from regular SON users who post here all the time. The buzz about Miller joining GH happened months ago when Logan spoiled the news. “Buzz” would be keeping secret the fact that you’ve hired a popular daytime and prime time actor to play an equally popular character. That “buzz” literally had the entire soap world talking. The only people interested in Miller playing a cross between a cyborg, and the boring son of Monica and Alan are GHers. In due time they will start complaining about how he’s written, and his extensive air time.

  • April

I knew Billy Miller will play Jason Morgan 3 months ago. Steve Burton, ex: Jason, Steve made it clear that he enjoy playing on Y&R and has said that Billy Miller would be best candidate to replace Jason Morgan. That he has talked to the GH producers about him and now congrats to you Billy Miller, I really hope you like this one better than being Billy Abbott on Y&R. Please don’t be surprise if the fans don’t like you as Jason, they are all will get used to it. I think your friend Steve Burton is right. I believe you will be good as Jason. So looking forward to watch GH.

    • http://unknown.com Bexx

According to a certain troll, SBu and Miller hate each other. Then again, that same troll said Muhney and Miller were on their way to DOOL. LOL

      • April

I’m sorry to ask you this: How do you know? That’s right, you don’t know.

  • Susan

There is only 1 Jason Morgan and that is Steve Burton. Billy Miller is not manly enough to pull off Jason. He does whiney Billy on YR much better. Bad move. Real bad move. I will zoom through his parts.

  • Ali Wichrowski

BEST NEWS EVER. I knew that Billy was coming, over to GH as a recast of Jason. For a while now. Since I read the very first spoiler/rumor about his recast. It seems like that all of the y&r cast has been jumping ship over to GH. And ever since then GH has been, the best show to watch.

  • Elizabeth_Erwin

Billy Miller is a great actor. He would have been better cast as Lucky instead of a ten year younger Jason but that is the least of GH’s problems… TPTB seem to think that all they have to do to keep the show going is bring in stars from other soaps and let them taking turns eating the show for months at a time…. meanwhile the writing is downright horrible and less sophisticated than the Saturday morning cartoons they are striving so hard to emulate. Now that they are bringing back the dead Stavros, the epitome of a cartoon character if there ever was one, for the fourth time, I am giving up for good. Life is too short to find oneself home alone watching a TV show and yet completely embarrassed at the juvenile and nonsensical disaster it has become.

    • Shaw Sway

I totally agree with your statement.

      • Andrew Hass

Well considering that i think GH was on the chopping block 2 years ago i think it’s a good sign that it’s still on the air now.As for FV and RC ruining GH i think they saved it.I’m not saying everything they have done at GH has been perfect but nothing is 100% perfect.

        • Elizabeth_Erwin

Only because they figured out that Katie was a disaster. And they didn’t have anything to put in the hour.

    • sweetchuck

I want to gag everytime Stavros talks. He is the worst!

  • Djdomsmom

I must say that at this point in the show I don’t honestly think anything can make it better. It’s a complete disaster!!! My god how many times can one person die, but not actually die. Bring in new better actors and definitely new writers, the story lines are predictable and I fast forward through most of the show.

  • bj

Bring Billy back to Y&R! PLEASE! I hate all those guys who followed him.
