Numbers looking good for all shows considerimng the time of year. After a couple of years of disappointment from Y&R it has become must-see TV again. Hard as I try I cannot get into GH but am glad to see they are doing well.

  • sands of time

Congrats to GH! Not too bad, DAYS!!!

  • Andrew Hass

It was a good week for GH after a couple weeks or so of them losing viewers. So they gained them back.Plus for 3 of the soaps they had gains from the same time last year in total viewers.

  • MattArmando

Great week for both GH and DAYS.

Both GH and DAYS really built in all demos.

    • sands of time

Well, DAYS lost 12,000 from last week in the 18-49 Demo. However, they gained 6,000 from last year in said Demo.

    • RedRiver38

GH and DAYS see big audience gains year-to-year. Great writing, acting, and production pays off!!! Congratulations to all involved.

      • GHReality

Great writing and production pays off for GH? The writing is terrible. All this year to year stuff about GH is so contrived and such spin. The audience is up from last year, over 300,000, because that same great writing and production team tanked the show last spring and summer and lost all the gains they initially made with Vet returns, the 50th anniversary and Nurses Ball 2013. They introduced that mess that is Franco, relish, DVD’s, Silas and Kiki and lost hundreds of thousands of viewers. All they’ve done now is get back the losses.

Enjoy being able to write about year to year gains for another few weeks. The ratings finally went up in the fall when Robin and Faison returned. The ratings this fall and winter will not show big gains from fall winter 2013, so everyone will need to find another way to spin.

Bottom line is that GH is at 2.8-2.9 million on average. They are around 600k 18-49, 180K 18-34 (they were over 200K on average) and their 25-54 number is 800K or so. If that floats Ben Sherwood’s boat, then it gets renewed past 2015.

Watching ABC shift GH’s time period in 8 markets, removing the CHEW leadin and disrupting the continuity of its socail media component, begs the question of how committed the network is to GH.

        • Andrew Hass

So?General Hospital is still up 336,000 viewers from last year.Which to me means that more people are watching the show now than they were last year.Plus how how do know what GH’s ratings will be come Fall and Winter. As for ABC moving GH in some cities i think in LA GH was on against DOOL.So now that they won’t be anymore that could help both show because now fans won’t have to choose.

          • RedRiver38

Very true. In LA, DAYS will be at 1 PM and GH will be at 2 PM. Both shows should benefit from this situation.

          • GHReality

and Dool each get about 90,000 viewers in LA. In SF, GH does about 45,000 and
Dool does only about 20,000. Not everybody is just a “soap” watcher. I don’t
watch Dool. There isn’t that large a pool of potential crossover viewers to
offset the potential loses in large markets like NY and Phi, where the combined
GH audience is about 350,000. They both lose the CHEW lead in, the CHEW does very well in both markets and
actually does better than GH in Phi. And
if it is about attracting younger demos, Jeopardy, the new GH lead in in those
markets, is about the oldest skewing show on television, the majority of its
audience is 55 plus. GH will also face tougher competition at 3p.

          • Andrew Hass

However in LA GH and DOOL are competing against each other and could be taking viewers away from each other. So right now in LA both soaps get about 90,000 viewers but both soaps could gain more viewers if they’re not competing against each other.Plus i’m wondering. Before the Fall of 2012 when GH moved to it’s new time slot what was the lead in in New York and Philadelphia?Plus maybe in New York and Philadelphia GH already has an older audience with viewers above 55.In a few weeks we’ll see if ABC changing GH”s time slot in certain cities will help or hurt the show.

          • David

What GHReality doesnt get is that if the show gained 300,000 from last year yes the show tanked but that means that the producers/ writers turned things around to get those numbers back. If they were still tanking those numbers that would be a different story. For you to say that the show wont gain in the fall is just speculation. First you have no idea what the producers/writers have planned for the fall. In regard to the 3pm move we shall see. Remember its only 8 stations. And those stations chose to do this as they felt GH would be a better lead in to their 4pm newscasts. Could numbers be down because of the move possibly. But no way of knowing until it actually takes place.

          • GHReality

David, thank you for pointing out what I don’t get and I’m sure ABC thanks you for troubleshooting on their behalf.
What I think I did get, was that the geniuses in charge, screwed up, lost all the gains that came primarily from Vet returns and a switch to 2pm and getting rid of the abysmal Revolution leadin. They then squandered those gains with terrible writing and production. They have gotten back to where they were because Robin brought people back in the fall and they’ve been up and down since with no great consistency. That’s because they don’t get increases from great writing and production but stunts. A Nurses Ball that people were curious about and Michelle Stafford brought some people in, but some have left as well after the initial buzz.

          • GHReality

I do know what is in store for fall. More stunts, some villains and Jason. There will be no great writing writing, just more incoherent stories full of holes and that will not get them higher ratings than fall 2013. That was the point of my post, the argument for year over year gains will disappear shortly.

          • Andrew Hass

I guess come Fall we’ll see if fans stops watching GH because neither you, i or anyone will know what will happen until it happens. However if you’re wrong and come Fall GH has even bigger gains from last year i want to hear how you’re explain that happening.

          • Andrew Hass

I agree. If the show is as terrible as GHReality thinks it is now then GH would have no gains from last year. They would be around that 2,500,000 range like they were last year.Plus last year GH was dealing with a lot of things behind the scenes and needed time to get things back in order.Plus as for the move back to 3pm in those 8 cities maybe GH did better in that slot than in the 2pm slot.Plus i’m sure ABC didn’t just decide to move GH back in it’s old time slot and may have been thinking about doing this for awhile.

          • GHReality

GH was only up against Days on the West Coast and GH and Days both don’t do very well in LA or SF anyway. There isn’t a lot of room for growth there. The move in NY and PhI removes the CHEW lead in and replaces it with Jeopardy, a potential problem. Losing viewers there would offset any gains made in LA or SF, it’s math.

Yes up from last year means more people are watching, thanks fro stating the obvious. The point is it was terrible at this time last year and had lost a ton of viewers due to the same writing team that was referred to as brilliant. Had they not tanked the show and just maintained from the 50th, there would be no major gains from last year to point to; there would be no spin. The story would be that there have been no major gains in the last year and GH is still number three.

People throw around terms like year over year growth to spin for the show. Again, the fact is that if Cartini didn’t tank the show last year and had just maintained there would be no spin. The story would be, no gains from last year and GH remains number three. If you go back to fall 2012, that’s the story, no big gains. And that’s what 2.8 million viewers means.

How do I know what the GH ratings will be in the fall, I don’t know, but I can guess, and that guess is that they won’t get much higher and even if they hit 3 million or so, those touting year to year gains won’t be able to, that’s the point.

          • Andrew Hass

Maybe the reason GH and DOOL don’t do too well in LA or SF is because they might airing against each other. Also the week of April 1st 2013 which was the 50th anniversary week GH had 2,792,000 in total viewers. So that’s a gain of 87,000 viewers. However as you point maybe we shouldn’t put too emphasis on the year to year ratings because every year is different.Plus no matter how bad GH was last year the fact that fans are tuning in must mean this year the show is doing good and people are enjoying the stories or otherwise the ratings would be as low as they were last year.

          • GHReality

point is the numbers were about the same at the 50th, an 87,000
increase does not constitute “big” gains. The point is that the 336,000 in gains
being touted is misleading. GH lost so many viewers in Spring/Summer 2013, that
they had won back, because of how awful the show was in Spring and Summer 2013.
They got back to where they were and even exceeded 3 million on average for a
while with Robin and her return. The week after she left, they lost hundreds of
thousands of viewers and stayed down for a while. The numbers now are still
lower than what they gained with Robin in fall and winter 2013/2014 and only
slightly higher than the 50th. So the point is the spin of year over
year “big” gains and that 336,000 number is misleading. They are down from 6-8
months ago and about even with 18 months ago. They should have been able to
build on that 2.8 million from the 50th and they tanked, losing
hundreds of thousands of those people. They should have been able to keep them
and then attract more viewers. 2.8-2.9 million, after all that, is not
impressive and the year to year stuff is spin and that’s the point.

          • David

Lets compare the numbers to where they were in 2009 and 2010 and even 2011even 2012 then tell me the show isnt up from where it was before.

      • Elizabeth_Erwin

Year-to-year gains for GH reflect how horrible it was last summer…all summer long!

      • AlmostFormerY&RViewer

I am gravitating AWAY from Y&R to GH and Days. The seem to be hitting almost all demographics, but DOOL desperately needs to step it up in the diversity department and INCLUDE minorities who are not super-old or Theo! Alexis should return along with her brother, both with new love interests STET!

  • TV&MovieBuff

Not too bad for all the soaps, but I was surprised by the Days tie in 18-34. I knew the press release said they tied for first in that demo but they failed to state they tied for 1st with all 4 soaps. That’s weird.

    • sands of time

Yes, that is true! Also, CBS failed to have a press release for Y&R and B&B ratings…meow.

      • Andrew Hass

Well ABC didn’t do a press release for GH either and GH had a good week too.Plus considering that Days last year 2,283,000 in total viewers.and i don’t think that was good.So only place they could go was up.Plus last year Days was only behind 3rd place GH by 260,000 viewers and this year they are 416,000 viewers behind them.I think Days won’t be able to gain much ground is if when they gain viewers above them gain viewers too.

        • JayTN

I agree, not having a press release is not indicative of anything. ABC, CBS and NBC have irregular releases for daytime…they release one haphazardly and only when they feel the need to brag about something (and not just increasing in viewership).

  • sands of time

Many changes on the way…GH is changing times in several markets. Please adjust your schedules as not to miss it! Meredith Viara hosts her new talk show. Please avoid it! And another Meredith comes to daytime…Meredith Baxter will play Nikki’s booze buddy. Will Maureen put the moves on a desperate drunken Nikki? Tune in to The Young and the Restless to find out! It all starts on September 8th!!!

Special note: DAYS’ season to date numbers are higher than last year!!! Chicago residents should be reminded that DAYS changes to 12 noon very soon!!!

    Remember…Soaps before talk shows!

  • missmeka1987

Days Of Our Lives make sure you guys watch it 🙂

  • vivien

For me, the best story line on DAYS was Eric&Nicole – will he go back to the priesthood? He turned it down .. because he “hates” Nicole .. he says .. lol. GH had the Maxie “wedding” fiasco, and I love her and Nathan. If a soap has even one good love story, I’ll tune in. 🙂

    • GH DAYS fan

No one wants to see that crap anymore… You obviously don’t belong to the key demo that’s on Twitter… The head writers totally destroyed Eric and Nicole with that outdated and absurd storyline. I enjoyed last week, because we had four WilSon days!!

      • sands of time

I want to see it! If the show wants to revolve around one couple…Ericole…And that’s not homophobic!!!

      • vivien

You’re obviously not a woman! lol .. old-fashioned romance NEVER goes out of style for us girls, witness the popularity of Downton Abbey and the love ALL AGES have for Jane Austen and Anne of Green Gables .. I KNOW, because as a mom and teacher I spend a lot of time with the younger demographic!

    • KansasGuest

As much as fans like Robin, I think the ratings bump was to see Levi unmasked as a thief. SO many people dislike him that I’m sure that was a factor. I like Nathan, too. But, I’d tune in live to watch Levi get punched in the face by Mac….repeatedly….even if Maxi & Nathan weren’t in the episode. I’d tune in live to watch Felicia slap him repeatedly!

  • dani700

It appears that on B&B, the ratings for the wedding was the worst for the week. I hope the writers realize that the off-set wedding in Monte Carlo was a flop! Hope and Wyatt’s wedding tanked as most viewers didn’t want this to happen. If it was a Hope/Liam wedding, the ratings would have soared. Too bad they didn’t make it happen.

    • Leah

Not true at all. B&B’s ratings have been dropping all year long. Disregarding January (because all soaps ratings were pretty inflated due to the polar vortex and all those snowstorms), the ratings were highest back in February when Wyatt and Hope were together and happy. The ratings actually dropped when Hope decided to break up with Wyatt and date both brothers and they dropped again when she chose Liam. And now, faced with yet another round in this obnoxious triangle, viewers have tuned out again. The problem is not Couple A vs Couple B; both couples have a lot of fans and neither couple is the “magic solution” to B&B’s ratings spiral. The problem is the storyline in general is just awful and tiresome. They need to put Hope with someone (and it doesn’t really matter who) and keep her there. It’s time to move on.

      • dani700

Obviously, you didn’t either read my post correctly or comprehend what I stated, I am only referring to the week of the wedding. I repeat again for your benefit, the day if the wedding, I.e, Wednesday was the lowest rating for the week. Am I right? Moving on, the ratings for the triangle with Liam/Hope/Wyatt are not doing so bad. You are right in the sense, the majority of viewers do want Hope to end up with either one, but not the wrong one, I.e, Wyatt! Unfortunately, the writers will thrive on their only “bread and butter” that being the triangles.

        • JayTN

Leah also doesn’t seem to look at the ratings, either. B&B’s ratings have not “been dropping all year long”. They are actually pretty close to what they were when the 2013-14 season started in Sept. 2013…3.565 million viewers. Aside from a roughly three month stretch (from late Nov. 2013 until early Feb. 2014), B&B has had viewership in the same ballpark as it is now.

  • sands of time

True O’Brien (Paige, DAYS) let it slip that Patsy Pease (Kimberly) is back at DAYS! TO is also flabbergasted over an upcoming storyline…I’m guessing Eve will bed JJ to break them up…I always did like ‘The Graduate’.

Kassie DePaiva is doing a great job. She may not be bringing in immediate viewers, but the viewership will soon soar!

    • Andrew Hass

I can see the show planning to have Eve and JJ hooking up from a mile away because of the story implications it’ll bring.Plus i can’t wait to see Patsy Pease again because her character Kimberly and Eve have always had a rocky relationship and i don’t think time has approved it much. Also Kassie DePaiva might bring in more viewers but i’m wondering what will happen come Fall when Sami,EJ and Kristen leave.

  • sands of time

I understand the coveted Demo is women 18-49. Would it be a risky move for Y&R’s Nikki to succumb to her new booze buddy’s sexual advances?

Would women 18-49 rather see a female or a male couple?
