This is literally the best time of Linsey Godfrey’s life; not only is “The Bold and the Beautiful” star engaged to “The Young and the Restless’” Robert Adamson (Noah Newman) and is expecting her first child this June, she’s also celebrating her first ever Emmy nomination for her work as “B&B’s” Caroline Spencer! It’s a bit overwhelming, but in the best of ways, of course. “It’s definitely been a whirlwind of a year, that’s for sure,” the actress says with a smile. “I’ve been very fortunate.” On the day this year’s Emmy nominations were announced, Godfrey recalls being a bit stunned when she found out she was officially in the race for Outstanding Younger Actress. “It was one of those things where I was really, really excited, but then I kind of sat there and debated whether or not to wake up Bobby [Adamson],” she recalls. “I sat there and stared at him for awhile and debated whether or not I should wake him up or not, and then I did, so he was the first person I told. I maybe sat there for a minute, maybe two, just kind of sitting there starring at him, deciding whether or not I wanted to wake him up.” The actress also waited a bit to tell her family the news —which actually got her in a little bit of trouble! “I waited to tell my family, because they were actually on a plane coming out to see me,” she explains. “So when they got off the plane, they were all very angry that I hadn’t told them that I was nominated, because they found when they were on the plane!”

It’s a bit funny, but not quite as funny as the scenes that Godfrey submitted to get the nomination in the first place: The actress chose to turn in comedic scenes, which can be risky. “I submitted the episode where Caroline is talking to her friend about the web series ‘Room 8,’ and she kind of acts out the whole scene of how she thinks it should go, and it was a submission that I was really nervous about,” she admits. “I love my character, and I feel so lucky, especially on daytime, because Caroline happens to be such a unique character. But she’s not a very dramatic character in the classical sense of, she’s not a crier, and she’s not very emotional. She’s funny, and she’s quirky. So I was really nervous when submitting everything, but I talked to [our headwriter and executive producer] Brad [Bell] and… a bunch of our other producers, and they kind of told me that that was what they were going for as far as the show, the actual episode of the show they were submitting, and they told me that’s the one they thought I should submit. So I felt really good, at least supported in my decision to submit comedy, and then I was really worried, because after seeing everybody, I realized I was the only comedy submission!”

In fact, not only was hers the only comedic submission, but several of this year’s submitted scenes revolved around a dead child, which was extremely difficult for Godfrey — who’s due to give birth to her daughter in June — to watch. “Everyone was crying over dead babies!” she exclaims. “We were doing the judging, and Bobby was out of town, and I called him, and he was like, ‘Oh God, what happened?’ And I was just crying and said, ‘Every submission is about a dead child!’ It was so horrible. But you know, everybody who did submit something more on those lines was so great, and I feel that’s what was so hard. These women were all so touching and heartbreaking.” Speaking of crying, Godfrey is of the opinion that nobody does an onscreen tear-session better than her co-star, Heather Tom (Katie Logan). “She’ll be sitting there joking and laughing and making fun of something, and they’ll call ‘action,’ and she won’t just have a tear, she’ll have four streams of tears,” the actress says. “And she’s a beautiful crier. She doesn’t make any ugly faces. Jackie [MacInnes Wood, Steffy Forrester] and I used to laugh, because when we cry, our faces contort and there’s snot everywhere way before you’ll ever see tears.” Though, being pregnant has definitely helped Godfrey access emotions for acting much easier than normal. “I’m not crying very often as Caroline, but even if I was crying, then it would definitely make my life a lot easier, being pregnant and being so hormonal!” she says with a laugh, adding that it’s been pretty entertaining to work while being preggers. “Playing Caroline pregnant would have been so much fun, because I think they could have gone so many [different ways], but it’s also been entertaining for me to watch them try to hide it, so either way, it was going to be fun for me. Big bags and strategically placed airplanes and things like that. And I stand behind Jacob [Young, Rick Spencer] a lot.” With only a couple of weeks left before she goes on maternity leave, Godfrey (as well as viewers) is wondering how her absence will be addressed onscreen. “I’m not really sure what they plan on doing,” she says. “Caroline could easily go visit her mom in New York, or she could go to Paris. Seems to be that when anybody goes away, they always go to Paris. But I was just joking the other day, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to go to Paris. Nobody ever comes back from Paris!’”

Godfrey might not want her alter ego to go to France, but she herself certainly wants to attend this years Emmys on Sunday, June 22. Unfortunately, her due date coincides with the weekend’s festivities, so she won’t be able to attend. “The only way is if she happened to come super, super late, which I don’t really see happening,” she explains. “And even if she came before the Emmys, she would just be too little to leave for any extended period of time. It made me so sad when I realized it, but unfortunately, I don’t think it’s a possibility for us.” However, receiving the nomination is exciting in and of itself — especially because she’s sharing the honor with Kim Matula (Hope Logan), who’s also a first time nominee. “We both got really funny text messages from Don Diamont [Bill Spencer] that said the exact same thing,” she says with a laugh. “Mine said, ‘Congratulations, I’m so proud of you. I hope you kick Kim’s ass. I hate her!’ And then hers said, ‘Congratulations. I’m so proud of you. I hope you kick Linsey’s ass. I hate her!’ So we were both laughing so hard about that, like, ‘Thanks, Don!’” Especially because, in reality, there’s no competition between Godfrey and Matula. “We’re very supportive of one another,” the actress shares. “Kim is like a sister to me, so if it wasn’t me to win the award, I would be so happy if it were her. I couldn’t think of anybody else I’d rather see win the award than somebody I love so much.”
