WHAT DO YOU THINK?
  • Bexx

Oh my word, never could I have imagined any sort of rebound after the Ms. Cleo doomsday predictions.

Maybe NBC should add it’s own daytime game show, or add some drama. lolololol

    • TV&MovieBuff

NBC definitely needs something to pair with Days….anything is better than what they have now. I am not sure why they have not realized that.

Some local talk show is the lead-in for Days here and it is bad local talk show at that.

      • David

Here in Boston we get the local news leading into Days. THey run the local news for one hour from 12pmest to 1pm est.

Good to see rebound for the soaps but these numbers are not at the level all the shows where at back in December and January

        • sands of time

K.A.(Hope, DAYS) is from Boston! I’m loving her story with Aiden and their kids! It looks like Kayla will be competing against Hope for Aiden!!!

    • DAYS GH fan

Why the hell would NBC want to do that after DAYS has delivered the best ratings this season since 2009-10?

Two weeks don’t change that. And I’m not surprised that last week wasn’t much better than the week before because there was much too much #Dannifer (not a very popular pairing) and virtually no build up for the #WilSon wedding, which fortunately changed this week.

      • vivien

ITA with Dannifer, but if Wilson are so popular, why didn’t they schedule the wedding for a sweeps month?

        • sands of time

I think they are the lead in for the wedding of EJ and Sami.

        • sands of time

How would you feel about a lesbian storyline on DAYS?

          • vivien

May as well, they’ve already chased off most of their older/ conservative/religious viewers with the gay story anyway, may as well go for broke

          • sands of time

My favorite storyline is Eric and Nicole! What’s yours?

          • vivien

            same :)

          • sands of time

I have always loved Nicole!!! I’m not for just one central character, but if DAYS were to go that route once Sami is gone, Nicole would be the wise choice!

          • Alex

I love Eric and Nicole AND I love Will and Sonny.

What I like about DAYS is that their stories are about bringing people together, not dividing them. And spreading a message of love and respect and equality, not the contrary.

            No H8!

          • Alex

Well, if that’s the case, the results couldn’t have been any better. 2013 was the best year for them since 2009, and the beginning of this year has totally confirmed that trend (best average January to March in five years)!

And whenever DAYS drew multi-year ratings highs last year, Will and Sonny were front and center of the story.

        • Fox

The upcoming May sweeps period sound likes the EJ-Sami wedding event. We wouldn’t want wedding overload with two taking place in one month. Wilson’s story at that point in time will probably center around the exit they have planned for the Gabi character, which necessarily has to be timed around the actress’ contract date. Finally, we shouldn’t forget that Wilson’s engagement happened during February sweeps, as a lead up to the couple’s romantic Valentines Day scenes. So really, the duo can’t be hoggin’ every sweeps period. .. lol! – jmho

      • sands of time

I wanted to give you an up vote, but I am a Dannifer fan. I’m also looking forward to the Wilson wedding!!! I’m loving DAYS and looking forward to even more diversity, something some people and soaps don’t understand!!!

Days of our Lives is a winner, no matter what the numbers say!!!

      • Bexx

When you start blaming buildup, actors, and their couplings for bad ratings, you lose all credibility. #nonsense. Its no wonder you’re a GH fan…that’s the type of crap they spew all the time.

    • sands of time

Did you have your pet spayed or neutered?

I think the peacock needs to grow a pair and put DAYS against TPIR and/or Y&R across the board!!!

      • Bexx

Yes, both of my pets are spayed.

I’m guessing NBC wouldn’t want any further embarrassment. DOOL airs at 1PM here and I, along with millions more are tuning into CBS for Y&R and BB. GH/ABC is more in DOOL’s league.

        • sands of time

I was under the impression that Y&R followed TPIR in most markets.

          • Bexx

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in my area. I don’t watch, but I believe it is an half hour long.

  • Daysfan4lyfe

I pretty much watch all few soaps but Bold and the Beautiful. It’s just too boring to me, no action. Days have the best s/l’s but don’t really keep the audience attention until the conclusion of them all happens.Gh have the best twists .They come so fast before your eyes out of nowhere I love that but their s/l’s are stupid. Seriously stealing embryo’s and freezin Jason.YR has no constancy light up for a while and then flame is gone for months until they light up again.

  • TV&MovieBuff

Wonder what excuse the Muhney fans will come up with this week for why Y&R grew so much. I guess they thought Muhney was returning again.

Excellent rebound but especially for Y&R and B&B.

    • sands of time

The day to day numbers look very bad for both CBS soaps. The viewers knew about the basketball games, yet the numbers took nose dives each day. That’s not good! The evil eye network is in trouble. They may gain strength by reducing Y&R to 30 minutes and expanding B&B to 60 minutes. What about 45 minutes each?

      • Bexx

When Y&R starts pulling 1.8 and 1.9 that’s when all the networks should be in worried. Unless you really are that deluded to assume that DOOL is going to start pulling 5 millions viewers? You guys should go back to 30 minutes, that when you were truly popular.

        • sands of time

          Days has always been popular!

          • JayTN

Not true. “Days” has even flirted with cancellation from time to time. There was even a rumor circulating back in the early-to-mid 1990s when “Days” was a Nielsen cellar dweller that Fox could pick it up if NBC dropped it.

In 1966 and 1967 during “Days” second and third season, the soap ranked 10th out of 13 soap operas both years. “Days” managed to rank 1st – in a three way tie – in 1973, but it had dropped back to 10th place (out of 14 soaps) in 1977, ’78, and ’79 (out of 13 soaps in 1979). “Days” rebounded into second place for a four year run (1995-1999) after James E. Reilly assumed the head writer duties and embarked on ever more absurd (yet popular) storylines like demonic possession and characters buried alive.

During those less than popular years, the only thing that kept “Days” from the Nielsen ax was the fact that the other NBC soaps (“Generations”, “Santa Barbara”, “Another World”, etc.) were doing worse than “Days” was.

While it is easy to be at the bottom of the soap pile now, with only four soaps on the air, but “Days” has ranked as the lowest rated daytime soap for the past three seasons, dating back to the 2011-12 season.

          • Bexx

Thank you for a little clarity! There is a reason Y&R has been so successful for as long as it has, and why CBS continues to support it. It has nothing to do with backstage drama, or game show lineups. CBS renewed Y&R through 2017, longer than any of the other two networks, despite claims of its impending cancellation. When Y&R is at it’s best, it shines, and there is no denying that.

          • sands of time

It has not been at it’s best for many years! There are not many people happy with any storylines. They are hanging in there, hoping for a better show, but have been dissapointed so far. You are using the numbers to show how “good” Y&R is. Why not tell people what storylines you like?

            The backstage stories don’t count.

    • Bexx

Maybe they thought Jeffrey was the new Adam? Or was that the week before when he wore Adam’s suit? lol

  • moshane58

Hoped to see GH back over 3 million again with all the twist and turns going on. The show is good..

    • Natasha

I’m interested in this past weeks ratings. They Wyndemere party had a lot of buzz on twitter and Liric trended the day they kissed.

    • nyvoter

As a newer viewer of GH for approximately a year, I totally agree with you on both counts :)

      • Bexx

        Figures…

  • Andrew Hass

It was a good week. Some of the soaps regained some of the viewers they lost the previous week and some even gained more then they lost.Plus in all the categories most of the 4 soaps had more viewers then the same time last year.Plus considering that Y&R and B&B were only on 3 days that week i think both did well.

    • sands of time

Y&R and B&B went down each day. The fans knew there would only be 3 episodes and chose to watch less and less. Not good.

      • Andrew Hass

What i meant is that even though Y&R and B&B were only on 3 days they each gained more than 250,000 more viewers then the previous week.Plus all 4 soaps went down as the week progressed. Now if they had been on Thursday and Friday maybe their ratings would have gone up but we’ll never know.As for DOOL i do i think it might be a bad sign they had the least amount of overall viewers gained and they were the only soap that went down from the same time last year.Overall last week all soaps went down very much.So of course it makes sense that they all would go up this week.Big declines like 50,000 to 100,000 from week to week i don’t worry about that much. When there are smaller declines each week then i’ll worry because that can add up over time.

  • Luis English

    B&B it’s just so good.

    • sands of time

A show about fashion without any gay characters is considered good? That’s downright silly! Are there any AA’s? Maybe Neil can crossover from Y&R! He has nothing better to do than go to TPIR.

      • JayTN

Yes, B&B does have African-American characters, including extending members of the central Forrester family. Texas Battle portrays Marcus Forrester. He is joined by Karla Mosley (as Maya Avant) and Kristolyn Lloyd (as Dayzee Forrester). Both Battle and Mosley have contracts, while Lloyd is now recurring, after previously being on contract.

  • nyvoter

As most of us predicted, all soaps rebounded this week, a very natural step when preceded by a week of fairly huge drops. All in all, soaps continue to at the very least tread water .. congratulations to all of them on that. A few notes of interest, at least to me: (i) the daily breakdowns for Y&R show more than usual fluctuations of total viewers for a 3-day week: Mon 5.3 ml, Tuesday 4.8 ml, Wed 4.6 ml. Considering that the previous wk had a Fri of 4.1 ml (an extremely low outlier and no doubt a result of an inadequate Nielsen ratings system), a jump to 5.3 ml on Monday is conceivable, but thereafter the dailys continue to drop — still much fluidity in these numbers. (ii) Days is in positive territory in all coveted demos from last year, whereas Y&R is consistently lower in all these demos from last year: 18-47 (-40,000), 18-34 (-24,000), 25-54 (-25,000); (iii) comparing the ratio of viewers in coveted demos to total viewers, Y&R’s total viewers this week is 4,942,000 whereas their viewers in the 18-47 demo is only 826,000; comparably GH total viewers this week is 2,641,000 with 588,000 viewers in their 18-47 demo … for what it is worth, although Y&R’s core viewership is 2 million more than GH, its potential to lose total viewers in an aging population is greated with Y&R than GH.
I continue to review Y&R on growing weekly numbers for consistency after a short stint of inflated numbers ending abruptly seven weeks ago: For the seven-week period, Y&R experienced a two-week positive report and a five-week negative report, resulting in an accumulated loss of 734,000 viewers, with fluidity within their daily ratings.

    • kelly

      THIS!

  • sands of time

I’m not liking these numbers for DAYS, but I’m still very pleased with the characters and storylines!

    • Bexx

Perhaps NBC should get some back stage drama for DOOL? Since according to you that’s what keeping a successful show like Y&R afloat.

      • Alex

They just have to continue doing what they’ve been doing since last year. They’re having their best season since 2009-10.

        • sands of time

That’s why Bexx is so scared! Slowly but surely, like sands through the hourglass, DAYS will be #1 in the ratings, matching the #1 storytelling it already has!

          • Bexx

lolololololololol You really are a loon! Maybe in another 25 years you’ll get your wish.

I can’t believe I’ve entertained your madness this long.

      • richjd

You post such NEGATIVE comments Bexx! Wow! Are you not happy?

  • sands of time

It will be interesting to see the numbers for next week’s wedding on DAYS!!!

    • vivien

      Yes it will be.

      • Alex

Will and Sonny were a central part of all the weeks when DAYS drew multi-year ratings highs last year. So, stop your hate and just stop watching, if you don’t like the show.

DAYS doesn’t need homophobic haters like you, and they’ve proved it as clearly as possible over the last year, with the best ratings in five years!!

        • sands of time

I’m not so sure Vivien is your classic homophobic person (if there is such a term). I think she may be scared that outright homophobic people will stop watching Days, therefore lowering the ratings.

I say that because I was accused of being homophobic because of a similar incident.

I was trying to explain how I thought others were thinking without making myself clear.

For the record: I am not homophobic and I embrace all people. I have pushed for DAYS to be diverse in many ways.

I love what DAYS is doing and am looking forward to even more diversity!

I will be celebrating the marriage of Will and Sonny and hope that millions more will join me!!

          • vivien

Pretty close, Sands, I don’t mind gay characters, but I’m Catholic and most of the characters on DAYS are Catholic too! It’s just unrealistic that even great-grandma Caroline has no problem at all with a gay wedding, even to the point of wanting a double wedding with Sami&EJ. It’s all the preaching that’s turning me off. “Gay weddings are = to straight weddings and if you don’t believe that, you’re a homophobe!” At least they’re not getting married in the church, with a priest. That would be the last straw for me.

          • Mindy34

You must be one hate-filled person considering what Will and Sonny have already been through, what they have done for each other and for Arianna! Talk about love and commitment!! The majority of Catholics in America is in favor of marriage equality, by the way (just do a Google search). You seem to be out of touch with what’s going on in the world around you.

          • Suzy

Its a soap so why should they “do a Google search” regarding their beliefs? Some people have beliefs that go beyond what the current trend is. Your statement just goes to show what followers some have become.

          • vivien

You do know that Sonny&Will are not real people, right? And that their story has been carefully engineered by DAYS to send a message? Next Gabi will leave the baby with Will&Sonny to raise, and they will be model parents, mark my words. It’s called “propaganda”, Mindy. Do you believe everything you see on TV?

          • richjd

I know, right! Like, the message that the LOVE of family outweighs religious dogma, and that that LOVE outweighs all other considerations. What a great message DAYS is sending!

          • richjd

Family is Family, sweetheart. Love for family should always trump religion dogma.

          • vivien

Love does not have to equal “approval”. The Church will never approve of gay marriage. You can take that to the bank.

  • sands of time

Is the evil eye network somehow affiliated with the Nielsen Company?

    • Bexx

Desperation always seem to bring out the conspiracy theories.

  • sands of time

Everybody is invited to watch “Days of our Lives”, where the wedding events will take place all week long, Monday the 31st of March through Friday the 4th of April.

Celebrate Will and Sonny and the hopes and dreams of millions everywhere!

    • Bexx

      Surely NBC can afford advertising?

      • sands of time

They are advertising, but I am very proud to lend a helping hand!

    • Soaps

Happy for all the soaps; I wonder how the other daytime shows are doing

  • Lampshade

Great week for CBS soaps, well done! I do follow these soaps, but my heart lies with DOOL. That said, we’re not all deluded and slightly sinister like some on here……..

    • Patrick Ferrando

      Sane prevails! :-)

    • Harlee

Thank sweet Jesus there is someone being fair about everything…Rock On!!

  • Patrick Ferrando

Two things stick out to me…
Days is the only soap to now be down in total viewers over last year. Not good.
And when the CBS soaps were pre-empted, the other two soaps didn’t really gain any viewers.
So the soap loyalty sticks. People watch THEIR shows.

    • sands of time

DAYS is up 30,000 from last year in the 18-49 key demo. The rest are down.
Being down 13,000 is nothing. What happens when they soon go up 1,300,000? Up and down and all around.

      • Patrick Ferrando

Let’s hope they rise. Otherwise they could be in trouble. A 1.9 share is NOT something to celebrate.

  • sands of time

The wedding events of all time begin today on Days of our Lives!
