    YES!!!

BIG gains for ALL soaps in comparison to the same week last year (more than a million viewers combined!)

And now look what a “good week” (and only a moderately good one, in comparison to the last couple of months) of GH means: 1.0 in women 18-49 rating,
    season average is 1.2,

whereas “The Talk”, which was hyped yesterday because of its “second largest audience in 3 years”, only drew a 0.7 in women 18-49 rating.

I think that advertisers are having a very close look at these numbers, because they are clear evidence that soaps are the way to go if you want to reach the target demographic.

And of course, this is the exact opposite of what the anti-soaps lobby and the network executives who killed so many of our soaps were telling people only about two years ago.

Interesting how people keep posting that the shows are “sinking ships”…”bleeding ratings”, yet all continue to be up over last year. Even some of the popular soap sites and columnists have been negative. You know who you are.
YR isn’t perfect, but glad to see it CONTINUES its growth over the past year.

    • Philip

Pat one of the things they are going on is because the soaps have been up and down so much this Spring and Summer. GH alone has lost almost 400,000 viewers since January. It’s good to look at the year to year but execs look at what is happening now….not a year ago. It is now that sets the budgets….not a year ago.

I am glad to see Y&R recovering from it’s lows last year too. But they have also got to keep going ahead and not up one week and down the next esp. when some of those weeks they don’t recover the viewers they lost the previous week.

      • Shawn

That’s not entirely true. There are seasonal changes in viewership that have nothing to do with the quality of the show, but more to do with life. The number of potential viewers is different in the summer than it is in the winter, so you can’t entirely discount the comparison to the same time in the previous year.

        • Philip

Yes but if you will go back and look at winter numbers all of the shows but GH are within 100,000 viewers of what they were which is a normal seasonal change. GH has dropped almost 300,000 since winter. If you go back even further to December they were hitting 3 million viewers for Live plus same day. Days, Y&R, and B&B also have been building this spring. But GH has been dropping viewers since the 50th anniversary. Even with having a few weeks up here and there overall their ratings are down. They have not had a daily of 3 million since March or April. It was either the day Kin Shriner returned or maybe one day during the nurses ball.

      • PatF

YR is trending up for the year…if you look at their season TOTAL they are up .1 over LY.

        • Philip

The biggest thing that Y&R has going for it as far as CBS is concerned is that with all the firings Y&R is a whole lot cheaper this year. So any ratings increase really helps them big time.

But they need to get their demos up more. They still have the same season to date rating for 18-49 as they had last year. That will get them more advertising dollars.

          • PatF

That’s true for all the shows. I don’t think there really are a LOT of new viewers in that demo. None of my young relatives watch soaps, while all us “older” folks still do. Viewing habits have changed over the years.
That’s why it’s so important that the soaps retain ANY viewer they have and not alienate those viewers with sweeping changes.

  • Kazzy

yes, I love that GH is up. That’s my fav soap!

  • Bex The Clown

So much for all the hating on GH. The show is so bad but apparently is better than it was one year ago. it has also beaten Days in 18-49 and is only 1,000 less in total viewers.

  • Bex

Only in the minds of the warped GH fans can 1.7-1.9 be considered wonderful. Even during the 50th they had a greater pull. The audacity to brag about beating DOOL. LOL You guys are in the same class…the bottom.

  • Beach Dreamer

How can GH have a 2.2 for the season when they consistently have 1.8-2.0 HH on a weekly basis? Your math doesn’t work out. Exactly how do you figure these season averages out? Because for me the math just doesn’t tell the same story.
