WHAT DO YOU THINK?
  • dan

probably didnt help it was thanksgiving weak

  • Spin23

Days and GH are #1 in the right demos (despite the overall drop in numbers amongst the big four…).

  • robert

The holiday was the reason for the fall.

  • Karen

18-49 is the right demo and DAYS and GH are at the bottom

    • David

Actually GH and Bold and Beautiful are tied in the 18-49 with 618,000 viewers for 2nd place and in the rating for 18-49 GH is 2nd with a 1.2 This is for women 18-49 which is the demo that counts. The 2nd most important would be women 18-34 which GH is first and Day is second. Just thought I would correct Karen’s false information!

  • Spin23

NBC and ABC have always gone for the young demo, 18 to 34. CBS always skews older in primetime and daytime despite they’re efforts for years now in trying to attract the youth audience. So I disagree respectfully of course as to the recent post about the right demo being 18 to 49; the other demo, 18 to 34 is as important, if not more significant, where advertisers are concerned.

    • David

Spin if you research enough you will find that advertisers base what they will pay for advertising on soaps based on the women 18-49 rating first. That is the key demo for daytime. In primetime it is 18-34 but daytime goes with 18-49. Advertisers are who pays the blls and they pay based on the women 18-49 so that rating will come first

  • Jen

The other key demo is not 18-34 it’s 24-54 which for some reason is not visible here but that’s the demo they use. Dallas is such a ratings sucess because they top the 24-54 demos

I have been watching Y&R since on and off for years, and I can honestly say it has become the most BORING, UNWATCHABLE soap on the air. I cannot believe they are letting Jeff Branson go. Phyllis and Ronan are the hottest couple on Daytime since, I can’t even remember. They are the main reason I watch. All this corporate crap with Neil, Jack, Victor, and Tucker is unbearable. Not to mention Kevin and Chloe whining about money day in and day out. So sick of it. I’m sure the ratings will continue to plummet. Where’s the romance and passion? There are so many underused characters sitting around: Jill, Nikki, Ronan, Chelsea, Gloria. MICHELLE STAFFORD is carrying this show at the moment. Every scene with her is a pleasure to watch. Nevertheless, I’m sticking with GENERAL HOSPITAL. It’s must see DAYTIME TV!

  • Mike

The top demo for soaps is the 18-49 female viewer. That is the demo for soaps that the advertisers care most about. The next one is the 18-34 female.

In primetime the top demo is 18-49 total viewers. The 25-54 is only the top demo for news and talk shows.

For years the 18-49 has been reported to be the top demo. If I remember correctly Days cast always got something special if they topped that one. They have not been able to do that in years.

  • David

The soaps only had 3 days this week. ON top of that it was a holiday week. People are busy getting ready for the holidays Wedsnesday most people are traveling etc for the holiday. GH was still tied for 2nd place in the key women 18-49 and still in 1st in the next key demo women 18-34 so the numbers are not that bleak especially with it being a holiday week!
