OLTL Recap: Friday, July 22, 2011

( — “One Life to Live” Episode Recap – Friday, July 22, 2011.

The man with Todd’s original face awakens to find a homeless man has fished him out of the water. He was spared by a bullet-proof vest he had the foresight to don before meeting with Todd. The homeless man is a sometime informant and convinces the man with Todd’s original face to call John McBain. John and the man with Todd’s original face come face-to-face.

After John expresses concern that someone has messed with the papers on his desk, John and Natalie go over new evidence. When the DNA analysis of the hair Natalie found comes back as Todd’s, they wonder what it means. John’s informant line rings with an intriguing call from the man with Todd’s original face who id’s himself only as the super hero. John goes to meet him.

Brody tries strong-arming Vimal into promising to keep the secret about Liam. When that doesn’t work, Brody pleads on an emotional level, which Vimal understands. Vimal, however, is noncommittal. He promises only to think about it. Brody returns to Natalie who asks if he tampered with anything on John’s desk. Brody lies, says he didn’t, but he is clearly troubled – and worried Vimal might tell the truth about Liam.

Todd and Blair fete Sam with a day of his own in which they have to do whatever he wants them to do. He gets his dad riled up when he talks glowingly of the man with Todd’s original face. While everyone gets ready for Sam’s special lunch at the Buenos Dias Cafe, Todd probes about the man with Todd’s original face, but Sam has few answers. Starr overhears Todd swearing to Sam that no matter what happens, Todd loves him. Starr asks him about it and about the man Sam claims has Dad’s old face. Todd’s evasive, telling her how much he loves her.

Todd tells the family to go to lunch without him. Todd meets with Baker, demanding to know who the man with Todd’s original face is. Téa witnesses more tension between Baz and Tomas. Tomas abruptly leaves. Tea questions Baz who throws it back at her, asking about Tomas and Todd.

Meanwhile, Tomas meets with Baker and we learn more about their relationship. Téa vows to toss Tomas out of the house unless he tells her what he’s hiding. Starr got the sense that her father was afraid of something.

Rex warns Dorian that if she doesn’t drop the charges against Echo, Rex will get Clint to press charges against Dorian for attempted murder. Dorian’s troubled by the new, ruthless Rex.

Rex seethes when he encounters Jack and his family celebrating Sam’s big rescue of Dorian.

( — “One Life to Live” fans can breathe a sigh of relief. After months of reports of old faces returning to sister soap “All My Children’s” for its ABC finale, “One Life” finally have something to cheer about, with two big returns of its own. This fall, Andrea Evans (Tina) and John Loprieno (Cord) will be finding their way back home to Llanview to reunite with friends and family.

According to both Soap Opera Digest and ABC Soaps in Depth the actors, who were last seen in 2008 for “One Life’s” 40th anniversary celebration, will be returning for a brief stint beginning in September. The show is set to wrap production on its TV run in November ahead of its final ABC episode, which is set to air on January 20, 2012. It will then move production to online-only distribution.

As for how Evans’ return will affect her recurring role Tawny on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” a spokesperson for the show reveals that “We’re thrilled for Andrea and her fans that she gets to return to ‘OLTL’ before they go off the air to reprise a role that started her illustrious career in daytime television. We’re also happy to report that Andrea remains a part of the ‘B&B’ family portraying the character of Tawny Moore.”

In a statement issued by ABC, Evans comments that “Working with John is and always has been a pleasure. Our characters of Tina and Cord have always had an easy chemistry, and I am delighted that we will be able to bring them both to Llanview once again!” In the same press release, Loprieno adds that “Working with Andrea was one of the high points of my acting career. Her work ethic, wonderful talent and incredible sense of humor were always appreciated on the set and in rehearsal. When I think of all the times I had fun on the set or interacting with people backstage, Andrea figures prominently in those memories.”

Evans echoed similar thoughts on her website shortly after ABC cancelled “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” back in April, stating that “I am heartbroken over the cancellations of both ‘AMC’ & ‘OLTL.’ ‘OLTL’ has been a huge part of my life & some of my oldest friends live & work in Llanview. And, if at all possible, I would love to bring Tina back home where she belongs.”

Andrea Evans originated the role of Tina Lord in 1978. After leaving the show in 1981, she would return from 1985-1990 and again in 2008. John Loprieno debuted as Cord Roberts in 1986. Exiting the show in 1992, he would later reprise the role from 1993-97, and again in 2004 and 2008.

No word on first airdates for either actor, nor is it known the number of episodes they are returning for.
