“General Hospital” star Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) reportedly planned to bring his 12-year-old daughter with ex-wife Sheree Gustin as his date to “The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” ceremony, taking place on Friday, October 30, but according to court records obtained by TMZ, the soap veteran is allegedly being prevented from doing so.
In a court filing in the former couple’s ongoing custody dispute, the outlet notes Burton is asking a judge to “step in and give him more parenting time,” with the actor alleging Sheree is “refusing to swap custody days, despite his reasonable request for some scheduling flexibility.”
One major issue is plans by Sheree to move with their daughter from California to Tennessee, after Burton had previously moved back to California from the Volunteer State with the understanding that his ex would continue to call the Golden State her home. In response, Sheree alleges Burton’s cross-country move should “not result in an increase in his parenting time, as it shows ongoing instability,” citing the actor’s active work schedule.
Burton filed for divorce from Sheree in 2022 after revealing in a May 2022 Instagram story that the couple had parted ways, revealing her then-pregnancy was the result of an out-of-marriage relationship. “I wanted to clear something up,” Burton noted in the post. “Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine. We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids.”
The couple’s divorce was finalized in December 2023, and Burton has since married Michelle Lundstrom (“Barbecue Showdown”).
As for the Daytime Emmys, Burton is nominated this year in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor, his 11th Emmy nomination overall and his fourth in the Lead acting category. He previously won the coveted statue in the Supporting Actor category in 1998 for his role as Jason on “General Hospital” and again in 2017 for his work as Dylan McAvoy on “The Young and the Restless.”
