Nancy Lee Grahn is the latest guest to appear on the “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” podcast and during a conversation with hosts Rebecca Budig (Taylor Hayes, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark, “Days of our Liges’), the “General Hospital” star announced she has signed a new three-year deal with the daytime drama series, nearly thity years since making Port Charles debut as Alexis Davis.
“I just re-signed my contract — another three years, and I’m so grateful for this part of my life,” shared Grahn with Budig and Rikaart during the 18th episode released of their podcast’s third season.
“It’s such a great job,” added Grahn, following Rikaart emphasizing the rejuvenated feeling soaps are having right now after years of proclaimed doom and gloom for the genre. Asked by Budig why she thinks people should tune into soaps, Grahn said, “Right now, more than ever, because it’s familiar, it’s consistent, it’s dependable, it’s harmless.”
As for her character on “General Hospital,” when asked what storyline for Alexis that she hasn’t played yet but would like to, Grahn notes, “You know, you look back and go, you’ve done so many things. I mean, where else are we going to get the opportunity to have so, you know, play out so many different scenarios, right?” That said, she shared that while the question has come up a lot and she trusts what the writers come up with, “I kind of just have… But I will come up with something, some ideas sometimes, and I’ll just go suggest to them and see if they do it.” The answer led to a question from Rikaart, who asked if the writers ever listened to her idea(s), to which Grahn said, “Yeah, they have actually. Sometimes they have.” Following up, Budig questioned if she could share any of those ideas, which Grahn declined, saying, “I can’t, you know what? It’s too many. I can’t, I can’t specifically remember. And by the way, if I ever it was my idea, and they took it; they wouldn’t want me to say it was my idea.”
Feeling the love for the show’s writing team, which last year won its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series since 2009, Grahn emphasized, “They’re very, I mean, very open-minded. I mean, I love our team. I really do.”
