While watching “One Life to Live” this week, it has become even more apparent to me that this show must really be concerned about the environment. Why else would they be basically recycling scripts and storylines every few months?

Once again, for what seems like the tenth time, Starr and Hope have been kidnapped. It is fast becoming as predictable a plot device as a seemingly normal, intelligent character going bat crap crazy before leaving town. The writers at “OLTL” apparently don’t know how to write a proper exit for someone, so they just automatically change their personality into that of a psycho.

What’s worse, at least in this case, is how that, even though they keep repeating their storylines, they seem to pay even less attention to detail the second time around. This Eli storyline has plot holes in it large enough to drive a truck through. For instance, why was the Cherryvale Clinic so understaffed? And no, Natalie’s comment about the economic recession being to blame doesn’t count as a legitimate explanation. Because, even if that were the case, there would still be a few security officers around, or at least a couple of surveillance cameras.

It’s sad, but that’s really about all I have to say about “One Life to Live” right now. It’s just that boring. And, after the last column, I think I have done more than enough complaining for awhile. I mean, seriously, what’s the point? Nothing seems to change. It’s just more of the status quo week in and week out. So, there is really no point in griping about the same issues over and over and over again. I’m just going to shrug my shoulders, shake my head, and go on.

However, it was great to see such an emourous reaction to that particular column, which received 1,060 hits (as of last check) and 22 responses. That is truly amazing, and I think everyone who read and/or responded to what I wrote. I hope we can keep up that momentum because it shows that there are at least a few people still out there that care about “One Life to Live.”

Anyway, moving on, congratulations to “Ladymember” and “Joanne,” who correctly identified last time’s mystery “OLTL” guest star as Dr. Joyce Brothers, as well as the fact that she was summoned to town by Dr. Larry Wolek to help his wife Meredith Lord Wolek deal with her depression.

In case you missed the clues, here they are: This mental health care professional was summoned by this Llanview doctor to help his wife back in 1972, when she was suffering from depression following the death of one of her infant sons.

Now it’s time to play another round of “Llanview, Who Am I?,” a new feature where you have to use the clues to figure out the identity of some mystery celebrity guest stars from “OLTL’s” past. See if you can figure it out. Good luck!!!

Two brothers receive a surprise visit from their father. A conflicted young man contemplates turning himself in. Someone tries to coax information from a mother about her “son.” And two other brothers discuss a dead woman’s connection to their family.

Well that’s concludes yet another edition of the column. Apologies for it being rather short. These past few weeks have been hectic for me as I have been out campaigning for re-election to hometown city council. Stay well and safe, and I’ll have more in the next column.
