  • TruthSquad

These ratings are a disaster for Y&R. I personally have enjoyed the last 8 or so episodes and have thought they had finally gotten their groove back but these numbers say differently.

    • Amie

Agree Hope this get back up.Thanks to Los Angeles scenes and Cane,Lily,Billy and Phyliss and I got sick of Victoria but I love Jordan.Scandal will rock on Y&R

    • JayTN

Based on the limited numbers for other daytime programs, I’m inclined to believe it is not a problem unique to the daytime soaps. “The Talk” had 2.36 million viewers for the same week, which is their least watched week all season (compared to 2.8 million viewers it was getting as recently as January).

      • TruthSquad

I agree with that assessment. I think like the OJ trial, viewers are entrenched in breaking news. I personally prefer this writing team. I hope the network execs aren’t freeking out because as you said on another post regarding SFT, constant regime change is not good.

      • James Spaldin

I have said, more than once, that the network TV Audience is shrinking – and the panic about DOOL and the soaps being possibly doomed/cancelled – MUST be put into context about the ever decreased viewingship of, daytime and primetime, network television in the United States.
In the UK we had Days in 2001, but the TV Network cancelled it as they deemed the 200,000 daily viewers was not a strong enough proposition.
Fast forward to 2017 – the programme that broadcasts in the same slot has 200,000 viewers – which obviously must be OK today.
US Daytime Soaps are to be treasured!

        • Salem Spectator

There’s talk of “The Mickey Mouse Club” taking GH’s place. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

      • soaprealityfan

Yes, Jay, there is now a MASSIVE ratings deflation going on in both daytime and TV at large. The reason that Days of Our Lives is still on the air is not because its ratings aren’t appalling, it’s because there is extreme erosion in ratings across the board. Even successful shows like the Talk and Y&R are not head and shoulders above DAYS anymore. With a much smaller number of prospective viewers, a new show that manages to get only 40% of that might very well net numbers around the same or worse than DAYS. Yes, talk and reality are cheaper to produce, but the network’s also have to ask, will this show improve our network’s image, brand and reputation weighed against cancelling a soap? And even with a cheaper bottomline production-wise, there is still the reality of a finite and limited amount of benefit derived from advertising dollars, etc resulting from even a show that becomes a mid-range success.

    • Soraya Montenegro

The LA “trip” was a flop. I knew when I saw it on demand this would be the numbers now they are getting 2.99.

Maybe with a 4 day week and the Chloe drag coming out they can recover. Yet I wouldn’t be surprised we’ll get some soap interruptions since many viewers will be paying attention to the Comey testimony and the administration coming back from overseas.

      • TruthSquad

I didn’t see the LA trip as a flop but it had very little appeal to me. I think the more they try and film outside the more out of their element they seem. Hopefully next week is as good as this week and th interuptions are few.

  • DaysRocks

Yes..I knew Days would bounce back!

    • debbie45

Nice to see DOOL’s ratings up for May sweeps. Stay tuned fellow days-watchers it will only get better with Ron and the great returns this summer.

      • Suzy

What are you talking about? Days lost more than they gained for May Sweeps! Look at 3 weeks of ratings and do math.

        • debbie45

Excuse me? Read the thread! The ratings are up from last week.

          • Suzy

Excuse me. Do math please. They lost over hundred thousand last week but now they go up 22 thousand so things are ok? They never bring back all fans they lost in ratings for last week. That’s like going to casino and losing 1000 dollars are slots to win 10 dollars.

          • debbie45

Well its still a gain for this week compared to last week!

          • Suzy

You said that Days was up for May sweeps and they are not. That’s why I answer you. Look yourself at start of sweeps and compare to these ratings. They always lose more than the small gains they have so nothing is there to be happy about. Days has under TWO millions fans and those fans can be so blind not to see this soap is dying. Throwing parties about going up small amounts is wasting your time.

          • debbie45

Yes it has gained this week in May! Gosh…I point out one positive about the new ratings and i get attacked by trolls.

          • Suzy

Who’s a troll? Each week I see people say that Days is bouncing back and will be so great. Do they look at ratings and all lows for so many weeks? Who are the ones trolling? Fans need to be real about the ratings for Days that’s all.

          • Salem Spectator

Do you know what week to week means? As for being real about the ratings, all fans of ALL the soaps need to get real! And GH fans should pay closer attention to their own soap and worry less about DOOL. Be afraid, be very afraid.

          • cab

Why you try to bring one soaps increase as a failure is beyond me. Compare numbers to last year. Not one soap is doing anything to mention, they are all down, even powerhouse Y&R lost 655,000. These numbers do not reflect viewers who watch through other media, maybe these numbers would diffenitely add smiles to the executives at the networks.

          • Suzy

Ratings being UP for May sweeps means bringing more fans to watch than they had at beginning of May sweeps. NOT losing more fans. Days lose more in all categories for last week ratings than they gain for this weeks ratings. That’s NOT bouncing back. That’s treading water like a person trying to keep head above the water. I know you think Ron can write miracles just because Sami and Will come back. You think two characters can fix trust with fans and hundreds thousands fans come back just because those two characters? No sorry it won’t happen.

        • cab

Any increase is a good one, considering others lost during may sweeps.

    • Suzy

Days is bouncing into a pit of quicksand.

      • cab

        Your silly opinion.

  • Celine

    GH is awful.

  • FoxyRoxyy

Angelica, Mal and Sally/Kay should he embarassed by these Y&R numbers. Horrific! 2.9 in households? Over 600,000 viewers lost in a year? Embarassing!!

    • robert

their needs to be changes. people are bored out of their mind

  • Newmanwins

General Hospital up for the week with the largest gains in total viewers and all three demos.

Anna mania week + No network interruptions = Ratings increases across the board.

Last week’s ratings crash was a clear aberration in all honesty…you are bound to have big decreases when two episodes are preempted for the first 30 minutes…look for the show to rebound again next week cause the Nurses Ball usually spikes the viewership nicely…and it will help that there were no interruptions again this past week…two biggest stories were featured heavily last week and hit the big climax yesterday.

General Hospital has been very exciting these last two weeks.

    • You must be kidding. LOL!

      • Newmanwins

You are the biggest GH hater on the internet…catch your tired negative act on many sites…not exactly the most objective opinion out there…the show sucked balls in April but it’s been entertaining as hell in May…not everyone is a closed minded chronic complainer like you…LOL.

        • Keanna

No, it hasn’t but before you say anything I have been a loyal viewer of GH for over 30 years, and there’s NOTHING exciting about this show right now. I demand the best from my soap and we shouldn’t accept garbage

        • Jay Last

Opinions are subjective, not objective, by definition. If a person hates the pile of ZZzzzz that is GH these days, they shouldn’t say they like it just to appease others.

    • Suzy

General Hospital is best soap to watch out of all 4. They keep steady with ratings. I wish they could be higher but it’s a good soap all in all.

      • Newmanwins

Exactly…it’s the one soap that is never boring…and it was good during May sweeps.

    • Amie

Yep it work I enjoyed the Nurse Ball.It was good.

      • Newmanwins

It really was better than excepted…very good soap last week.

    • Keanna

We must be watching a different GH because there’s NOTHING endearing about the show at the moment.

  • Y&R

Is Y&R keeping the current writing team?

    • FoxyRoxyy

      One would hope not!

    • robert

      i hope not

  • JONNYSBRO

Every week Mal/Sally are drastically lower then JFP. Anyone notice JFP got fired with high ratings should she be rehired?

    • Amie

Hell no We don’t want to see JFPs and Pratt again. They ruined legacy of the show.Y&R is doing fine in demos. We aint worry.

      • Keanna

Amie, these are the same people that nitpick every single thing that Mal and Sally do, not knowing that some of the L.A. is the network’s doing but hey it’s easier for them to do the former. Heck I would rather be a Y&R fan than GH or Days at the moment.

    • Soraya Montenegro

Mal Young has got to go. His brand of soap opera isn’t winning over YR viewers. JFP is somewhere laughing hard. Her demos didn’t get bad until the last 4-6 months of her run but Young has been consistently getting low since he took over full time.

      • FoxyRoxyy

Mal is a disaster. How low can he and Sally go? lol

        • Soraya Montenegro

Chile I dunno but somewhere JFP/Chuck Pratt dancing in delight.

          • FoxyRoxyy

As they should be! Look at the disastrous year to year losses, especially in the demos! Embarassing. Mal and Sally should be ashamed of what they’ve done to Y&R.

          • Soraya Montenegro

JFP/Chuck had there moments with the demos but now SSM/Young isn’t generating eyeballs or sustaining long time viewers anymore. 2.99. How embarrassing for this show.

          • FoxyRoxyy

Y&R is so boring! They deserve the low low ratings.

          • robert

i think their losing longtime viewers because of less emphasis on the vets and shoving newbies down peoples throats

          • Soraya Montenegro

that too. it might be cost effective to bring on newbies but long time viewers won’t be down for that at all. when days and gh did that it cost them viewers and backlash.
bringing on newbies has to be a slow progression.

          • robert

i’m all for new characters but bringing too many on at a time and immediately putting them in front burner stories and backburning vets is not the way to do it

          • Soraya Montenegro

            i said that, yes

  • Suzy

Before anyone try to say Days bounces back look at ratings for beginning of sweeps April 24-28th and look at ratings now. Tell me they don’t lose fans in all categories since start of sweeps. Don’t be fooled and just look at totals. Days bouncing back is a big laugh. Days always promise from Ken that it will be better because characters coming back or new writers. Please I don’t believe any of those lies. They need to stop talking and start doing. Days is always awful and it doesn’t matter which characters they bring back because all the people in charge of Days are awful at their jobs.

    • Salem Spectator

And General Hospital will be closing it’s doors, probably due to the mob blowing it up!

    • cab

At least Days is trying its best with what they have. Ron C. can have a dramatic effect in ratings if he plays his cards right. And from what I have read with coming storylines and characters, it just might work with this instant graification type of technology that we are living in.

  • Amie

I see Y&R went up in demos. They need to get back up next week during Memorial Holidays. We just have a way ready for Chloe be caught soon and Victor will be exposed by now.So close that Cane to be exposed.I knew It will be back fired on Hilarys ass now.Watch out when Juilet will work with Hilary.I think demos went up because in Los Angeles.

    • Newmanwins

I am ready to get back to Victor and Chloe…that was easily the best stretch of shows under the new writing team…nothing else is doing much for me at the moment.

      • TruthSquad

I think the last couple of weeks have been good too but I agree the Chloe-Victor story was great.

  • Mary Shelton

All the shows have crappy ratings. YR scored its lowest share average in its history. GH’s ratings are terrible. Product of some very poor decision making.

    • Newmanwins

All of the established prime and cable television shows are way down in ratings…most hitting are new lows more often than not…it’s not just a problem for daytime soap opera’s that have to contend with constant news interruptions…too many people are watching shows via online streaming digital platforms…none of that is ever counted in the outdated obsolete nielsen ratings system….others are too obsessed with social media and their smart phones to bother with television period…it’s a new era with this modern technology so viewer erosion is the new normal till they get new updated ways of counting eyeballs.

      • Pete Ra

Yes, most prime time shows are suffering too. Empire for example was having 11-12 million viewers the start of the season and now it 6-7.

      • Kristin

It’s also an issue that these shows (and I’m including many primetime shows) are terrible. Imo, soaps have coasted for years on the assumption that their audience will eat anything. But are too many actually good things to watch or read. Every “TV” show I watch is on netflix, hulu, or amazon prime. There’s only so many hours in the day, why would you watch something terrible when other things are on offer? If soaps were actually good or appealed to the audience they keep losing, presumably people would watch them.

  • JayTN

While an increase is an increase, “Days” has still had actual daily viewership below 2 million for 9 of the past 10 days. Personally, I think Y&R needs stability in leadership. The soap had steady production and writing rooms during the days of Bill Bell, similar to how B&B is run with Brad Bell in charge. Since Bell retired from the business in 1997, Y&R has had 15 people as either head writer or co-head writer. That is 15 people over just a twenty year time span. I believe Y&R insulated itself from the constant turn over in writers and producers at the other soaps due to Bell’s calming hand…now Y&R is just like any other soap (save B&B) behind the scenes. As a point of reference, the long-running “Search for Tomorrow” (which was the longest running scripted series at the time of its cancellation) aired on NBC for four years, compared to 31 years on CBS. During those four short years on NBC, “Tomorrow” had more writing and producing changes than in the previous 31 years spent on CBS. Perhaps not coincidentally, “Tomorrow” was also at the bottom of the Nielsen ratings during its NBC run.

    • Brandon

Y&R didn’t start the head writer/executive producer changes til 2006

      • JayTN

Bill Bell retired in 1997 and handed the reigns to Kay Alden who was solo head writer until 2000 when she was joined by Trent Jones (until 2002) and John F. Smith (after 2002). Both Alden & Smith were replaced in 2006, which did start the writers roulette that exists today. However, 12 of those 15 individual writers or co-writers have come and gone since 2006. Most of those people stayed with the series less than 3 years. You cannot have stability when writers are constantly being changed out.

        • Brandon

But even with Trent Jones and Jack Smith, Kay Alden was still there as head writer. So imo, Y&R had the most stability in the writing room than other other soap

          • JayTN

I picked 1997 because that is the year that Bill Bell stepped back from his head writing duties, although he remained as EP until 2006. Y&R has had just as much turn-over among writers and EPs as the other soaps since 2006.

  • debbie45

Ratings: GH and DAYS Up For The Week! In case some of you missed it!

    • JayTN

Ratings: DAYS ties record low Household rating for the fourth straight week; ties low in W18-49 rating for ninth straight week; ties low in W18-34 rating for eleventh straight week! In case some of you missed it!

      • Suzy

Days will have 50 thousand viewers in total and people will still celebrate if they gain 2 thousand. They want to be in denial.

        • Days

          Says the GH fan.

          • Suzy

I’m sorry that I didn’t know a person can only watch one soap. I watch Days longer than GH for your information. I like GH better now than Days and look at ratings, a lot of other fans do too.

  • paul

Look at them all doing so badly but Days is a joke nothing but 1.4’s and a few 1.5’s that is their average now nearly every day below 2 million viewers watched not good at all.

    • Pete Ra

All shows suffering major declines, but Days needs to stay above 2 million! 2 weeks in a row and we don’t get the new stuff until August?

      • Salem Spectator

        July.

  • debbie45

What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet. Looking forward to Ron Carlivati (new head writer starting in July) and all the great things he has in store for Days. Keep watching folks. Ratings will only get better. Thank you.

    • Suzy

lol keep trying to convince fans. You have only hundred thousands more to convince ok? Thank you.

    • Suzy

My answer wasn’t a jab ok? Just there are a lot of fans that have to be convinced to watch Days again because they lose so many.

      • Salem Spectator

Do you see the numbers compared to the same week last year? You may want to stop talking.

        • Suzy

Do you see the numbers compared to last year in total? You can stop talking too. Most things you say are crazy gibberish.

          • Salem Spectator

Yes, you’re stating fans need to be convinced to watch DOOL because they lose so many, but you neglected to mention that GH has lost 388,000 compared to last year whereas DOOL has lost just 207,000. You’re not making sense except for the fact you’re scared DOOL will overtake GH.

          • Suzy

LOL. You are paranoid. Why does every Days fan have to compare ratings to GH? Is it to make themselves feel better that other soaps are losing fans too? It doesn’t matter what GH loses. Days still is bottom of the tank for fans and the show is awful. I don’t care if Days takes over from GH. You are not in the right mind when you make posts on here a lot of the time. You love Days. Good for you. Lots of fans see it for what show it is which is an awful one. GH losing fans doesn’t make Days better. Let’s talk next week. Maybe Days loses another one hundred and 25 thousand fans.

          • Salem Spectator

I simply pointed out what you failed to point out. You carry on about DOOL losing viewers while hoping no one notices what a “bomb” GH is.

Face it, all the soaps are losing viewers in one way or another. Before you came along with constant smackdowns of DOOL, GH was flying under my radar…Not any more!

          • Suzy

There’s no sense talking to you. You aren’t right somewhere. Criticize GH all you want until it makes you happy. GH is a better show and ratings say that very clear. Keep loving your terrible soap Days and keep saying your prayers about better ratings. No one cares what you post most of the time. Bye Bye.

    • Salem Spectator

I continue to watch because I’m still entertained. DOOL has a lot of great things happening, but some big piles of crap mixed in.

TPTB said Ron’s writing coming up will be provocative, exciting and daring. I can’t wait!

And some are saying Dr. Rolf is returning!

      • debbie45

He is officially back. This is going to be good. Stay tuned fellow DAYS fans!

  • Keanna

As a Days and GH viewer for over 30 years, not celebrating these numbers.

Days, there are some good things about it, like the little twist with Dario and Abigail, but tired of Nicole whining, the Greek storyline has been all over the place, Ron’s writing can’t start soon enough.

GH, guess I am watching a different GH than some of you, the Sonny and Carly stuff has been tiresome, the Chimera story has been asinine, and the Anna/Alex stuff has been awful but hey reasonable minds can differ. And a 1.6 on a Friday is nothing to celebrate.

    • Soraya Montenegro

I’m so done with Nicole’s regularly crying exposè. What Dena Higley has done to Nicole turning her from the snarky, conniving vixen to this crybaby “heroine” I can hardly stand it. Don’t even get me started how all the Salemites piled on Chloe in one of last week’s episode. Another character Higley destroyed to make a Nicole sympathic character. Some of the Greece stuff was ok but nothing remotely exciting came out of it. Deimos should had freakin died in May Sweeps! I won’t be surprised if this Wednesday’s episode when he got caught is 1.4 or 1.5 because it was anticlimactic garbage along with St. Daniel and Brady’s drag out needing a new heart.

      • Kelly

This is why I took Days off my DVR lineup.

  • Soraya Montenegro

    OH BRILL!!!
I thought Brooke/Dollar Bill would be respectable numbers. What happened?
Whatever is left of the Bridge fanbase wasn’t having it all.

Not surprised YR’s LA lost numbers too. It was so boring. It deserved those numbers.

    • Michelle

People are sick of Brooke and Bill.

      • Soraya Montenegro

LOL… I know. Yet don’t tell those on Twitter they’ll be in your mentions ready to cuss you out over Brill. With numbers like these Brooke being married to Bill will last 6 months and that’s me being generous! Bell has to keep Brooke active when it comes to her sexual appetite.

        • Michelle

People on Twitter will be getting cursed out right back. I don’t understand how people get so wrapped up in a soap opera. I think some of them need to get a hobbie or a life.

          • Soraya Montenegro

Girl I block now. If they refuse to listen to logic and speak like an adults, I don’t bother to feed the trolls over these 4 struggling soaps. I tend to like what I like or don’t like and keep it pushing.

          • Michelle

I agree. I ‘ m not on Twitter but if I was, I would curse them out and block them.

          • tracy

Exactly some of these looney tunes live vicariously through these characters lol

      • tracy

I agree I did not watch it all brill is disgusting just my opinion

        • Michelle

Brooke has no business married to her sister’s ex-husband. The whole story is nasty.

        • Tammy Bostick

it is disgusting i watched when katie and bill first fell in love that was a great story now trashy brooke with her sisters husband it’s just gross

      • Eileen

        His horse sounds were so embarrassing! I don’t see how the actor did it with a straight face. That stallion routine was always a bad idea yet the writers must think it is “cute”. Maybe they will take a long break from these two;

  • BoomBoomBoomerang!

Mostly the soaps don’t seem to be hitting the emotional highs that I enjoy and watch soaps for… but Y&R made Marla Adam’s return as Dina a triumph (IMO) and B&B hit some nice emotional highs with Thomas and Sally (good chemistry to me), but Nicole baby drama isn’t convincing, maybe it’ll get better tho. Brill was a thud just DOA for me. I find Brooke and Bill both shallow and two shallow people in a relationship or marriage is an emotion void that no toy tower or stallion can fix. No offense but IMO Brooke needs to be with a man who is deeper than she is (as it is she is $Bill’s mental superior, but it just doesn’t work and maybe the proof is the need for props for “stallions” to try to make these two interesting together). Her character seems to be eroding away weirdly when it should be just the opposite. She should be the Forrester matriarch, even if she’s not married to any Forrester, not Mrs. Stallion. Anyway, JMO, as usual.

    • TruthSquad

Great insight. I agree about Marla. I am glued when she is on. Regarding B&B; you nailed it about Brooke fading away and needing someone deeper. Brill is boring. Bridge is boring. She needs a new direction that doesn’t involve a love triangle.

      • Soraya Montenegro

Once Bell sees these numbers on Brill’s wedding, he’s probably working on Brooke’s contingency plan to get her away Bill as we speak. Bell has never been a long term type of writer when it comes to his couples especially when it involves Brooke.

      • jonboy

Goes to show that the old timers are more watchable than the newbies. In her heyday wasnt she the resident vixen on SECRET STORM?

        • TruthSquad

Secret Storm predates me but I just looked it up. Lots of incredible stars including Joan Crawford. Marla Adams played Belle Clemons and from what I read on wikipedia was very much like Dina Mergeron. I guess that role fits her. When she told Phyllis she was Tawdry today I could tell she still has what it takes.

  • SoapArmageddon

Historic lows with younger women for the 11th straight week seems about right for Days. The fact that other demos are still kind of hanging in there is astonishing. The show is deeply unsatisfying to watch.

  • Alex

The last two weeks have been exciting on GH! I was surprised that Friday was the least watched episode that week. I was on the edge of my seat that day. I especially liked Martina defending Sonny to Carly. I enjoyed watching her stand up to Carly. I hope they keep her on the show a little longer. However, Carly and Sonny might be getting back together after finding out what really happened the night Morgan died..

    • Eileen

Anybody who defends Sonny (especially a woman) should be declared nuts (just kidding but not really). Sonny has ruined this show yet the actor is still allowed to dictate his story and walk around like a little bantam rooster, screaming and throwing things. This is what passes for good acting these days; it just makes me laugh.

  • robert

the LA week was a dud and these numbers show it. Mal and Sally should be on the hot seat. ratings have consistently gone down under them. they tied their lowest household rating ever

    • FoxyRoxyy

Well deserved low ratings. Mal and Sally should be embarassed by the ratings.

    • bsota

Get rid of Lily and Cane!

      • jonboy

Lily & Hilary should have had a cat fight on the rooftop. Cane goes to break them up and all three go over the side and splat on the sidewalk below, doing us all a favor. Now hows that for May sweeps?

        • bsota

Oh yes! I forgot about Hilary. I’ve wanted her gone since she started. Her and Devon. Bye bye.

  • JONNYSBRO

Jean Passnante and Shelly Altman are writing the best soap of any of the head writers. Maura West was so amazing on Friday and the Nurses Ball i thought was great. Anyone else feel Jean and Shelly are writing best soap?

    • Keanna

Funny I feel the opposite, I think GH is the worst right now but hey reasonable minds can differ.

    • Newmanwins

      I agree with you, 100%

Jelly is on a roll (pun intended) with great soap in May.

    • ctshar

I depise their story telling, actually. If not for the stellar cast and production, I’d have given up six months ago. The daily script writers are often excellent so even when a story like morgan meds switch drags on for months with nothing but repeated scenes, the actors and dialogue writers give me a reason to try to watch SOME episodes, but daily I’m one of the million viewers GH who have mostly NOT watched GH recently.

I’d replace Jelly if I could, and I suspect GH would be giving Y&R a run for the money with good story telling AND moving Sonny back to ensemble. The rest of the GH cast and production crew are frankly better than Y&R.

      • bsota

Yes. Both Sonny, and Carly can go. Take Lulu, Dante, Jason, and his wife along. And the magician kid. Toodles.

    • Jay Last

I find these “hysterical” scenes to be so out-dated and tired. Scenes like Maura West’s and her friends on Friday are what they used to show on that program “Talk Soup” to make fun of the soaps. Such overacting and scenery chewing (“YES! YES I was the one that switched Morgan’s pills!!! – oh please give me a break). If it was in black and white I’d swear it was something from the 1960s, not a brand new show.

      • bsota

Ha ha, true, but because I just love Maura I’m not going to complain too much about that one.

    • Kevin Little

“General Hospital” has been so much more enjoyable without Maxie and Nathan.

Now if only the show would get rid of Lulu and Dante. I’m literally rooting for Valentin and Nina to win sole custody of Charlotte because Lulu is obscenely annoying!

      • bsota

Ditto! Can’t stand Lulu! Love Valentin.

    • Elle L

I’ve learned that I’m not a fan at all of Jelly’s storytelling.I tried to give them a chance in the beginning, but it slowly just kept getting worse, and hit a peak in the last few months. I do think they are trying and working hard to make things work, but the show doesn’t really feel like GH to me anymore. :/

    • bsota

Love Maura West! I’m afraid they’re going to write her off now that she’s caught. Hope not.

      • Trish

Maura just re-signed. So Ava isn’t going anywhere.

        • bsota

          Thanks for the info!

        • Alex

I hate Ava most days on that show. However, If Maura didn’t play her, I would hate that character everyday! She’s one of the better actors on that show and GH needs her! Glad to hear this!!

      • jonboy

On GH no one ever seems to suffer the consequences of their actions.

  • FoxyRoxyy

From Sally Sussman’s first full week of writing Y&R last December compared to these ratings show that she has lost half a million viewers in 6 months! She has failed Y&R with her boring stories.

    • Keanna

They were already down more than that with Phelps and Pratt still at the helm this time last year. Mal and Sally haven’t even been there a year.

I don’t even watch Y&R but I would rather be watching that than GH right now.

      • bsota

GH should get rid of Sonny and Carly to begin with. Waste too much time on them and they’re dull.

    • bsota

It has been very dull. Very!

    • robert

      it’s been a snoozefest.

    • jonboy

Such a disappointment but have to wonder if its really her fault. I blame the erratic editing and the way scenes are haphazardly pieced together.

  • debbie45

Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (as played by William Utay on Days of Our Lives) is official returning. Many are speculating that he might have something to do with Will and/or EJ. I can not wait to see this all play out on screen! Exciting DAYS ahead.

  • BoomBoomBoomerang!

Am I going blind? My eyesight surely is not what it used to be. But I still think I’m able to ‘see’ the truth. Well, most of the time. One soap site is posting a headline that Y&R and B&B just hit all-time lows in the current ratings above? I see “ties all-time low” for all the soaps but not NEW all-time lows for any of the soaps. Not sure if it’s for ‘click bait’, outright bias or ‘wishing’ the ratings were higher for their fave soaps. This won’t help ratings and smells weirdly like ‘REAL’ FAKE NEWS! Just sayin’ because I have seen others post that some soap sites seem biased for this show or that, and I never took it seriously. Now I’m beginning to wonder if there is some bias on some soap sites and if readers should even take those sites ‘seriously’. Thank goodness SON is NOT one of those sites! BTW Not trying to stir the pot, I just don’t see “New All-Time Lows” anywhere in the ratings posted above.

  • ctshar

I didn’t watch that friday either, I think that was the sonny/lawyer stuff. If you focus on sonny’s sex life for an episode, you’re going to lose ratings every time.

  • sherwood

These May sweeps numbers for CBS’ soaps are horrid. I can’t imagine the network is happy with the downward trends. These losses are dramatic and they fall at the feet of Bradley Bell at B&B and Mal Young/Sally Sussman at Y&R. These shows are at all-time low points. What are these people thinking? The huge storyline sending Y&R to LA for location shooting was a big bust, while Spectra-vision on B&B is a huge failure. I’d say Sony needs to clean house again at Y&R. What CBS does with the Bell situation at B&B should be interesting to watch. Whatever happens, both shows need a shake-up and new vision.

    • FoxyRoxyy

CBS should be embarassed at these numbers! Mal, Sally, Kay, Angelica should all hold their head in shame at that Dare billboard on Beverly & Fairfax. Ridiculous stories on Y&R and the viewers are tuning out in record numbers. They should all be fired for allowing this to happen.

      • bsota

That billboard! Wow, how embarrassing. The whole show is a drag now. Lily and Cane need to go though.

        • Martin

@bsota No Cane needs to stay! It’s these horrible writers that need to go! Mal and Sally want to destroy Cane to elevate Billy and make him look like an angel! I’m not here for seeing my favorite actor/ character being destroyed for a loser! Mal and Sally have proven hat they’re not capable of being at the helm of this show so they need to get their things together and leave asap!

          • jonboy

How is it that Christel Khalil’s character now has children who are more than half her age of 30 years? She would have had to have them when she was 13/14!!!

      • robert

        that billboard was horrid

  • Eileen

Days ratings are still in the toilet; really low numbers as are GH’s.

  • Elle L

These numbers are bad bad for all soaps. It’s a slow but steady erosion, and we can’t just look at week to week pluses or minuses. Yes, GH and Days gained this week, but they had such significant losses last week, that small increases were likely to happen. Sadly, neither re-gained enough viewers to equal where they were even 2 weeks ago. GH lost 121K viewers two weeks ago and only re-gained 51K last week – so nearly 60% of the viewers that didn’t watch 2 weeks never tuned back in. Also, seeing more consistent 1.7s and even a 1.6 is really bad for GH in the dailys. Days lost 125K two weeks ago, and only re-gained 22K last week. Again, bleeding viewers. People just aren’t coming back once they stop watching for a few days. It’s a similar story for Y&R/B&B, but they have a farther distance to fall due to their ratings being comparatively higher than GH/Days. I think all 4 soaps have about 1-3 more years left…Days being the first to go. Sad, but predictable.

    • Michelle

CBS isn’t like NBC and ABC. They will cancel quicker. They don’t play around. CBS will not keep losing money. I am surprised they haven’t cancelled B&B yet.

  • lapsey

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I had off today, hurried my shopping, dropped off my kids at my sisters and looked forward to watching Days however its not on! Guess Ill have to wait until tomorrow after work.

  • Dianne

Ever since Brill first got together which initially was after Ron Moss left BB, viewers were saying they would tune out. Viewers were saying Brill would be the end of BB. Viewers tuning out because of Brill was expected. It’s Bell that is so out of touch. What is happening (or not happening) this time there are no other stories to get interested in. The question I have is if Brill be happening if Ron Moss hadn’t left. When RM left Brooke was without a man. Brill first happened before imposter Ridge was casted. Also, it looks like ex-AMC fans who tuned into BB because of Thorsten Kaye have also tuned out.

  • cab

In this day and age of instant graification the soaps need to speed

    • patt

Plane crash and castaways! Now isn’t that a clever piece of writing? Ryan and Dena are really dredged the bottom of the barrel! I found the past few weeks a wildly pathetic, yet ridiculous Comedy of
Errors! I COULD list many ludicrous developments, but won’t bother. The younger viewers are not interested in watching a daytime soap like Days. They have a lot more entertaining ways to spend their time. So many of my children’s adult friends do not even own tv sets when they move out. Middle aged and older adults are the ones mainly watching soaps out of habit.

        • lala

The demographic that the networks seek does not exist in the daytime
serial genre. They have so much technology at their disposal that they
do not have to sit in front of a TV because there is nothing else to do.
Get with it ABC, CBS, NBC. You are crazy because you keep doing the
SAME thing and expecting a DIFFERENT result!!

    • Suzy

Days treats most woman characters like they are weak, crazy, crying or busy in bed with different men and property of men That doesn’t keep with 21st century. Sorry. They are losing younger viewers because the stories are pathetic. All Dena writes is plane crashes, kidnappings and people getting sick. Just because they have gay couple that doesn’t mean the show is in 21st century. She takes all the women backwards in time.

      • Salem Spectator

Dena is no longer at DOOL. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Ron is almost here!

        • victoria

I think Ron Carlivati’s tendency to go a little cray-cray with outrageous plot-lines will be par for the course.. Basically, DOOL hired a guy GH fired for the low ratings. Worry about DOOL. I think RC will put the final nail in the coffin of DOOL. This is the soap
equivalent to asking the priest to perform last rights. Sixth different
writing team in five years is a freaking joke.

  • soaprealityfan

Yikes. Are these people for real? When you put a title on a blog post, the aim is to have it be both true AND a fair representation of the situation. Yes, Days “went up”. But that’s a truly inadequate description. Basically, they held their ground from last week (what’s left of it, anyway) and remained marginally the same. All in all, a very tiny increase over last week’s drastic drop. But the truth is they are once again, incredibly, below both the two million viewer mark for the entire week, and have another weekly average below 1.5. What’s the same, however, is the fact that they only managed to have one day out of the whole week with a daily rating above 1.5 – and even that day at 1.53 is still lower than last week’s most watched episode, which reached 1.54.

As shocked as I was last week, I am even more shocked that this week there was not a strong recovery to something like 1.56 for the week, which in itself would still have been pathetic.
    Expect cancellation in 2018.

  • debbie45

KASSIE DePAIVA returning to DAYS!! Great news! So many good things in store for DAYS.

    • Salem Spectator

Absolutely! Her last return was meant to be long term, but was cut short due to her health.

It seems a necktie killer reversal is coming. Eve coming back could signal the return of Paige and we know Will is back.

I don’t know what to think about that possible storyline, but I’m happy about the returns and possible returns!

      • soaprealityfan

You are SUCH a troll.. seriously. So many are saying it, and the rest are thinking it. & There is NO substantiation to the idea that Paige is coming back. TPTB at DAYS blew it big time by killing off Paige, Serena and Will but all three need to stay dead with no reverse-writing. Eve without Paige is incomplete. No point to her being in Salem without her daughter.

        • Salem Spectator

Your entire comment is that of a troll. Quit attacking posters.

          • soaprealityfan

Calling you a troll is simply that. You’re the one who perceives it as an attack, obviously because you’re so sensitive. Don’t project that onto me, or the other dozen people who see what you’re doing. Your comments are tiresome. I’m going to put you on ignore if i can find the setting now.

    • soaprealityfan

i read the entire exchange you had last night with suzy and you are also acting like a ridiculous troll – cheerleading for Days which can’t even manage a 1.5 two weeks in a row. get real!

      • Salem Spectator

Is there a link to the rules of this site that says being excited and hopeful for one’s soap is considered to be trolling? To me, DOOL is the best soap in the world and I take great offense to you trying to tell people we shouldn’t be excited for our soap!

Go suck down a bar of soap!

        • soaprealityfan

I didn’t say people shouldn’t be excited for this soap. I am saying that being thrilled that our soap is breaking all kinds of continuity and logic rules, by bringing back Will, etc. is ridiculous. Why not write stories that are plausible? Why are they always putting themselves in situations where they have to explain things that they can’t even explain and don’t care that it doesn’t make sense? Why kill off Will if they wanted him back one day? WHY HAVE THE SOUND OF CRICKETS OUTSIDE IN THE DEAD OF WINTER – EVERY DAY? This is why I can no longer support Days of our Lives. The production has become pathetic. And even with the ratings dropping like a stone, you know exactly how to rub people the wrong way in a very subtle way, so you can claim you have no idea why people always call you out.

          • Salem Spectator

Please do yourself a favor by switching to decaffeinated.

      • debbie45

People in covfefe houses shouldn’t throw covfefe.

    • Salem Spectator

Apparently, we’re trolls because we cheerlead. Someone must be nervous and/or jealous.

      • soaprealityfan

Actually you said it perfectly, mindless cheerleader for the show. But no, you’re not a troll because you cheerlead. You’re a troll because you intentionally like to be contradictory and rub so many others the wrong way. Maybe you don’t know you do this. Either way, celebrating how great a soap is, that IS on the verge of cancellation, yet bringing more characters back from the dead, is asinine.

  • pattyy

For crying out loud, from merely reading that headline, you’d actually think these shows are doing well! News flash: These shows are not going to lose viewers EVERY SINGLE week!
This is akin to going crazy when a baseball team wins a game to break a
12-game losing streak in a miserable season. I have no inside connections at all, but I can pretty much guarantee you
that the executives at ABC and NBC are not celebrating these numbers at
all. GH and Days are on severe downswings. One single week of microscopic gains is not going to change anything in the big picture.

    • soaprealityfan

      sing it sister!

  • debbie45

I read that on social media Chandler Massey (who is returning as Will Horton) reached out to Ron Carlivati (new head writer for Days beginning in July) after previewing scripts basically said that they are so good they’re On FIRE!!! I can not wait to watch this all play out and I hope this keeps people watching and brings in more viewers! Continued Exiting Days to come folks! Spread the word and Tune in.

    • Salem Spectator

      Most definitely!

      • soaprealityfan

What’s scary is you’re actually serious. This show sucks, because they CONSTANTLY have us wasting our time by reverse-writing things we SAW happening on screen (Will’s death) and then wasting our time watching the pointless fake funerals, which is why poignant moments like funerals have lost all their depth on soaps. Then we have idiot writers like Jean Passanante on Twitter taunting fans with “But how do you KNOW?” when fans point out the back story. That’s exactly what Ken Corday would say – How do you KNOW Will died… and my answer to that is WHY DON’T I KNOW? Why do soap producers always change past stories, thinking that makes them clever (it doesn’t), and thereby inserting huge plotholes, just because they are too weak with following through on their past decisions. Total Garbage.

        • cab

This is nothing new to soaps. Characters have always come back from the dead, and not just on Days. And there are plenty of TV shows and movies, i,e, Star Trek, that have brought back someone from the grave.

          • soaprealityfan

You are incorrect. When past dead characters were brought back on soaps it was done infrequently and plausibly. What’s going on now is absolutely shameless and a total turn off. No wonder fans are tuning out. If they were still AT ALL interested in using the Will character later, then they should NOT have killed him off – PERIOD!

          • James

Not true, infact in the 80’s, coming back from the dead on many tv shows seemed much more popular than these days. It’s a soap. it’s part of their DNA. And let’s not forget that in 2003 the entire cast was murdered by Marlena and then she was killed and they all came back from the dead in New Salem and btw some of the most crazy out there eps to watch and best rated eps. So I say, switch to talk shows if your not up for a crazy soap adventure.

      • soaprealityfan

Don’t mean to fight with you. DAYS is/was my soap too. I won’t block you but will skip reading your comments from now on. I’m glad you like Days. I just can’t share your optimism anymore.

    • soaprealityfan

Why would people tune in to see yet another character brought back from the dead??? The producers KNEW the implications of what they were doing when they killed off Will, and we all KNEW they would bring him back anyway. They have no shame whatsoever. Not only did they kill off two great characters (Serena, and Paige, who won an Emmy), but now they are going to bring back Will and leave the other two dead. Whole thing is a JOKE. But you apparently don’t have high standards for your soap. But many do, which is why the ratings for May sweeps are LOWER, not higher, than before sweeps started. Doesn’t matter what the scripts are like, Days will be SWEPT right off the map in 2018. And this coming from a DAYS fan who has had enough!

    • Pete Ra

Like the sound of that! Will never should’ve been a victim in the first place, so I’m all for his resurrection. Another back from the dead story, but what character on Days hasn’t died and come back? Reviving Will and having Sami around for it will pull in some eyeballs. Now if they can get AS to stay more than 2 months (or at least have her recurring).
