WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Loved how the highest rating day last week for Days was the Ejami love making it got a 2.1 nearly 3 million viewers and EJ and Abby day was the lowest it got 1.9 the other Ejami love making the week before also beat the EJ and Abby scenes 2.2 v 2.0.
Hope Days is happy what they done to Ejami ratings were only up in Jan and because of bad weather now its back to reality you won’t have Ali and James on the show much longer to rely on KC I can see nothing but 1.9s for days if they continue with EJ and Abby may if they lucky the odd 2.0 lucky Days got renewed in time because Ali and James leave they ratings are going crash big time.

  • sands of time

    Congrats on DAYS gains!!!

  • Andrew Hass

Yeah it was a bad week ratings wise but i’m taking a glass halfway full attitude because all the soaps are up from the same time last year in total viewers.

  • sands of time

Demo numbers for DAYS and GH are higher than same week last year!!!

Y&R and B&B went down. Another star of Y&R is leaving. Fans of B&B are accusing Brad Bell of not knowing his own characters.

Please support the soaps by not supporting other daytime tv!!!

    • Michael Pannoni

At work during down time/lunch I can stream via my computer, and I wish more could do so, even if it means audio only. Game shows are OK (Soap stars have appeared on them in the past and TPIR had some guest models from them this year), but news and especially talk shows? Not watching ‘em! I do like to watch classic soaps when daytime has nothing but talk shows since I’d like to understand the story more from the past. And I’m a 29-year old dude posting this to find something that can simply get through my day.

    • let the numbers speak

These negative SON talking points, part of the anti-soaps agenda, are getting more ridiculous from week to week. These numbers are the best for this week of the year in many years, and the season averages (household ratings) are the best since 2007-08. Obviously, some people are afraid that the fact that soaps are drawing the best ratings in the key demos by far will have consequences in the near future. And the only consequence can be: MORE soaps again, less cheap crappy talk, cooking and game shows!!

      • sands of time

I do not support anything on daytime TV other than soaps.

        • TV&MovieBuff

Not supporting the network lineups is only going to lead to more carnage of not just the talk shows and game shows but the soaps too. If the networks don’t get money out of the lineups they have they will just get out of it all together. NBC and ABC are already moving toward that. It is cheaper for them just to give the hours to the affiliates or do syndicated programming. And the affiliates aren’t going to have the money to produce soaps. The more money the networks make off the lineup is healthier for all the shows which will ultimately give them more money for promotion and more money to put into the budgets.

CBS and ABC’s daytime lineups are the healthiest they have been in years. And as long as they stay that way then we won’t be losing any more soaps. They start losing money again — guess what the shows with the higher budgets (the 4 soaps) will be the first to go.

  • Hannah

YR has finally got a trend. 4 weeks with a week to week drop and the margins have narrowed significantly in the year to year. Wonder when Sony and CBS are going to pull their heads out for some sunshine and vitamin D.

    • Bexx

And when they were up the prior months, and when they go up again? I’m pretty sure no fire alarms are going off, considering all the fluctuation that take place every week. This isn’t anything any other soap hasn’t seen before.

  • TV&MovieBuff

I’m not surprised by these ratings at all. None of the soaps pulled out anything major for February sweeps…no big weddings or story climaxes. Y&R’s big story culminated the last week of January and after that has been build of other stories. Days has a big wedding supposedly coming up in a few weeks according to spoilers but they aren’t even promoting it. GH promised a big sweeps story with comebacks but from reading on the Internet most fans have not enjoyed it at all. B&B has mostly been the same old stories.

I don’t expect big numbers or rises again for awhile for any of the shows. We are entering Spring and daylight savings time which for the last few years have proven to be up and down with the soaps.

I think we will see the same trend with increases as stories climax and exciting events happen.

    • sands of time

If you’re referring to the wedding of Will and Sonny, it’s understandable that there is no promotion. I think DAYS was put through a lot by Sony and NBC, as well as droves of fans against the story. They’re playing to both sides of the fence. It will not surprise me if Will and Sonny say goodbye to Salem.

I think their story brought new viewers, but sent some longtime viewers away. Also, there are people that will never tune in because of Will and Sonny, even when they’re gone.

      • DAYS fan since 1993

DAYS draw the best ratings in many years in 2013 and even more so since the beginning of 2014 – and Will and Sonny have contributed a lot to that. Just do a search on YouTube and you’ll see that no other couple has generated so much buzz for DAYS and attracted so many new viewers and fans as they have. In addition to that, WilSon (more precisely, Chandler Massey) won two Emmys in two consecutive years. So you should get your facts right before posting such homophobic comments. If some homophobic haters have stopped watching DAYS because of WilSon, their number has been outweighed BY FAR by new fans that have started (re-started) watching regularly. So, DAYS would be totally nuts to drive these hundreds of thousands of viewers away. And with the upcoming wedding and Will and Sonny probably raising Ari without Gabi, that’s certainly NOT going to happen. Get over it, it’s 2014!!

        • sands of time

Don’t shoot the messenger! It is a fact that from the beginning, there has been interference from NBC, Sony and fans. I’m not a hater!
Original writers claimed they would not be left alone to write. Ken Corday said that they were given orders to rewrite 3 weeks of story at one point.
It is not beyond comprehension that all the interference can still be happening.
YouTube does not factor into ratings.
Fans do not vote for emmy winners.
There was a surge in ratings and then a drop.
Will and Sonny became mediocre writing after the Smith Island storyline.
You don’t see how Will and Sonny became supporting players to Nick & Gabi and the river storyline with Kate and Sami?

My original comment was what I believe to be true, not how I believe things should be. I am a DAYS fan first and foremost, but I am accepting of Will and Sonny and all people.

      • Kelly25

gosh, these old homophobic bigots can all go away, because advertisers aren’t interested in them anyway. days has won plenty of viewers in the young key demo with the will and sonny storyline and that’s exactly what they need!!

it’s incredible that people who present themselves as days fans are writing such hateful and homophobic comments. days doesn’t need you, and their numbers going up more and more since will and sonny have become an important part of the show is the best proof for that!!

        • sands of time

You are shooting the messenger. I am a DAYS fan and I’m not a homophobe.

      • Andrew Hass

I’m thinking Will and Sonny’s wedding will happen around May Sweeps or so to coincide with Gabi leaving. So for now there’s no reason to promote the wedding right now because it’s happening down the line. Also Ken Corday has said publicly that the network is behind telling their story.Plus a few weeks ago i think DOOL had the best ratings in several years.Plus there’s no way to tell why people tune in to watch.I’m not saying people are only tuning in for Will and Sonny but i do think they play a part in the good ratings.

        • TV&MovieBuff

Over at Jason47′s Days site it has the wedding airing the first week or so of April. He has also posted that at other sites he posts spoilers at. He has given obscure dates over the last 2 months like airing in 6 to 8 weeks and then narrowing it down as time approaches. He has been posting clues about it for several weeks now.

          • EwingV

Wow, I didn’t think the wedding would be so soon!

          • TV&MovieBuff

I looked up his last update on the DR site which said it would happen between March 18 and April 4. And then someone posted under that and said that Will said on the show the wedding was in April.

  • Pamela

Y&R’s ratings will continue to decline! Since the firing of Michael Muhney ,departure of Billy Miller & Michelle Stafford last year, they have lost many fans. Unless Jill Farren Phelps is fired the show is going down the tubes literally. Many great actors are gone & they refuse to listen to the fans:( Unfortunately I see Y&R being cancelled unless drastic measures are taken!

    • Preppy

MMs fans really need to stop because they are starting to come across as unhinged. Ratings for soaps fluctuate and it has nothing to do with MM. Did his leaving cause GH and B&B to go down too?

Its fine if you guys don’t watch anymore but the fact you guys monitor the ratings and whenever there is a slight decline jump online and start posting “See! Y&R is about to be canceled b/c MM is gone!” Is just sad.

      MOVE ON.

      • Patrick Ferrando

Exactly. If YR was the only show down, MM’s “fans” might have the slightest bit of cred, but that’s not the case.
It’s becoming a bit odd to worship this guy.

        • TV&MovieBuff

Isn’t it wonderful the power that Muhney has. He even made the ratings drop on the other 3 soaps.

          • RedRiver38

The fact is that David Tom is a bust as Billy Miller’s replacement and Y&R is a slog now. Michael Muhney’s talent brought a lot to the show that even Braeden admitted and he’s gone. Sorry, but the current storylines are lousy. All of the soaps are not out of the woods in terms of them being on forever. They will continue to struggle with keeping an audience if they aren’t written better than the current set of writers.

          • JayTN

You may not like David Tom but that doesn’t mean his performance is a “bust” and it is far from a “fact”. Those facts you mention are merely opinions.

          • TV&MovieBuff

Boils down to a matter of opinion. I’ll take David Tom any day over Billy Miller. David Tom is a great actor. He was good in the role before and he is once again. Billy Miller kept wanting more and more time away from Y&R. So now he has got it. He chose to leave himself.

And I for one hated Muhney. His predecessor was much better in the role. And I never liked his interpretation. He was full of himself and wasn’t nearly as talented as he and his fans thought he was.

I don’t like all of the stories on Y&R but I never have enjoyed all of them. I still find it much better than when Adam was involved in every single story on the show. And much better than it was a year ago.

          • Billy

You’re entitled to your opinion, but a lot of other people would strongly disagree with your assessments of Miller & Muhney.

          • Bexx

            So you’re still watching?

          • Billy

Don’t have to watch honey. The message boards tell the tale on David Tom’s inability to replace Billy Miller.

          • PatF

Tom originated the role, and will play it the way he did before. You’ll probably see a Vicki/Billy breakup for now.
Tom excels more at his dramatic style. Miller was more comedy at times. Both have different intensities, so NO ONE can compare the two anyway.

        • Nancy Lynn Dyson

we shall see, it will only be a matter of time, you people have no idea, maybe you should google Jill Farren Phelps and see just how many soaps she has worked on that have been cancelled, (ALL OF THEM) ,Except General Hospital and that is only because fans rallied together to get her fired, Now they are doing just fine, but you keep thinking Y&R is safe, lets see what happens by the end of summer, obviously the show wouldnt be cancelled immediately, any idiot knows it takes time, and I can wait, the rest of you in the meantime continue to watch and deal with repeat storylines and JFP getting rid of great actors and actresses to bring in her own flunkies from other soaps, and stealing story lines from soaps that SHE got cancelled…..we dont “Monitor” the ratings, we dont need to , it will happen, and then all of you will have to find something else to do, like the rest of us have since Jan. 30th……

          • TV&MovieBuff

Another person who misrepresents facts. What soap was cancelled while Jill Farren Phelps worked at them? The answer is none of them. They were all cancelled several years after she left and the producers that succeeded her were far worse and did more damage that lead to the cancellations of those shows.

The only show she was EP of that was cancelled was the prime time show Hollywood Heights that was only intended to be a short run series in the first place.

If you use your logic then even Agnes Nixon, William J. Bell, etc. are show killers as they have all worked for shows that were cancelled…even more than Phelps has.

          • JayTN

Using that logic, then virtually any writer and producer working on a soap opera today could be called a “show killer”, including Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati, since they killed OLTL. ;-)

          • sands of time

And network presidents who are married to talk show hosts are soap killers. I am asking that all ATWT viewers turn your backs on The Talk. Husband killed ATWT for wife to have her talk show! If you watch The Talk, you have blood on your hands!!!

          • TV&MovieBuff

Her first show Santa Barbara was cancelled 2 years after she left the show. She left Guiding Light in 1995 and it wasn’t cancelled until 2009. She left Another World in 1996 and it was cancelled in 1999. She left One Life To Live in 2001 and it was cancelled in 2012. She went to GH in 2001 and it is still airing.

          • CPR

The day they cancelled Y&R all soaps will be cancelled so yall better be glad Y&R is still on top

        • RedRiver38

MM’s fans have just as much “cred” as any of the other actors on a soap. These shows all have obsessive fans, so just singling out one actor’s fans is silly. Eric Braeden’s fans are just as obsessed. Just read his twitter account. Twisted isn’t the half of it.

      • CPR

Not a MM fan but the dropping of Y&R because of MM fans not watching can also decline BB ratings because they may not turn their tv to CBS at all for the day

    • Andrew Hass

Y&R is still in first place with 1200000 more viewers then the second place soap.Plus it’s doing better now then the same time last year and that’s without Billy Miller,Michelle Stafford and Michael Muhney on the show. Also all the soaps went down this week and not just Y&R.So you might have a better case to worry if only Y&R went down and the other 3 went up.

    • EwingV

I actually like the new Billy a lot. He came in swinging and never missed a beat, IMO. I do miss Phyllis tho.

      • Bexx

For every peon who hates DT, there is a fan who is enjoying him. People assume that because their opinion of him is not very good, that others must feel the same way. I’m not real fan of the Billy character, and could care either way. I don’t think DT has much chemistry with AH, but I’m very intrigued to see what happens when Cady joins on, especially with Kelly heading into boiled bunny mode.

    • Bexx

Another loon with their own internal polls, and focus groups. CBS will start listening to the fans, when you alls stop begging for a fired actor to return to a show that you want gone.

  • timsdale4ever

I think Y&R’s ratings have gone down simply due to the fact nothing much is going on with the show right now and they’ve retuned to the monotonous dialogue between characters again. I hate it when this show gets in that writing pattern. It’s unbearable to watch. z..zz….zzz..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    • TV&MovieBuff

Right now all of the stories are kind of dragging to me. But I sure am looking forward to seeing Traci and Ashley again next month.

      • sands of time

I’ve always liked Traci more than Ashley. On the flip side, I’m looking forward to Eileen’s return to DAYS!!! Kristen is more exciting than Ashley.

  • Hugo

Glad to see CBS soaps losing viewers, these shows are pretty bad right now, they need new writers of something. Days is not perfect but it’s a lot better IMO, I hope more people start watching, #SwitchToDays :)

    • CPR

Y&R and B&B would always be better than days because they do things with style although I enjoy Days at times the show is just too messy like a primetime show all drama with killing and shoot them up crap

    • Bexx

If you have to tell viewers to switch to DOOL there is a problem.

      • sands of time

Continue watching Y&R and make room for better DAYS!!!

        • PatF

A lot of people like both Days and YR since Bell wrote there for years, and it’s back telling character based stories.
My friends watch both. And BB as well. GH, not so much right now.

  • let the numbers speak

Could this get any more ridiculous?

This is the BEST week at this time of the year in many years, within the BEST season of the top 4 soaps since 2007-08 (household ratings)!!

Although SON does not publish season averages anymore, this can be easily verified by just checking the last numbers they published in December (and averages have gone up even more since then!) and compare them to the numbers in the SON ratings archive.

But the “Soap Opera Network” that has proven more than once that it is an active member of the cheap talk, game and cooking shows lobby (probably because they think they can profit more from going along with whatever CBS and ABC are doing) gives us the headline: “Bad week for soaps”.

And in another article they write: “Soap opera ratings for the end of February may have been a little low”

Who do they think they are fooling here?

    • TV&MovieBuff

Wow you talk about people with a bias — that is the pot calling the kettle black.

You cite the statement that SON makes above saying the ratings for the end of February may have been a little low. You failed to say that it is in an article title CBS Slays February Sweeps. The statement goes on to ask what about the whole month of February and goes on to say how well the CBS shows did for the month.

As to the statement I am looking at the ratings above for the last week of the month of February. And yes the ratings are a little low. So what about the statement is not true?

You show your bias with every word that you type. And with every false ID you create to agree with yourself. You wouldn’t know the truth if it hit you up side of the head.

You are the one that misrepresents the facts and then try to blame it on others.

      • let the numbers speak

The fact of the matter is that the ratings for this week of the year are THE HIGHEST IN MANY YEARS.

More precisely, since 2010 (but only because in 2010, DAYS got a huge boost with the Olympics leading in during that week. Their ratings went down again significantly when the Olympics ended. Otherwise, the week in question would have been the best since 2008!)

So, it’s an outright lie when they say that “ratings for the end of February were a little low”! Period.

And it’s also not true that this was a “bad week for soaps”. It sounds like people that are desperately trying to put a negative spin on soaps whenever they can. And it’s getting more and more bizarre.

        • TV&MovieBuff

And you sir are the reason that people think soap opera fans are looney.

Not everyone is against soaps as you and others want to paint it. Funny that I look around on boards and I don’t see people saying lets not watch soaps so that they can fall. Or lets boycott soap operas because they are threats to this type of programming etc.

Soap operas have been replacing talk shows and game shows and almost wiped them off television for good. Yet those fans never said lets boycott soap operas until they are completely gone.

It’s only soap opera fans who are that vindictive. Soap fans even boycott themselves when they can’t get their way and their favorite couple or actor on every single day of the week.

Sadly my fellow soap opera fans are the ones that are more responsible for many of the soaps being cancelled. And they refuse to take the blame for it. Things like this stupid Michael Muhney boycott are the very reasons that many of the networks don’t care anymore.

          • sands of time

I think the MM thing is stupid. Y&R did what most would and should do. I only wish Y&R had a “keep your hands to yourself policy” concerning all past, present and future cast and crew, including women as well as men. Y&R could have made a problem bigger by not dealing with it years ago. What happens if MM says he thought it was acceptable behavior because he was a victim? Supposedly, that stuff went on for years at Y&R.

On a different note, I only support soaps in daytime because they are endangered by the cheaper to produce for larger profit game shows, talk shows and cooking shows. Once we lose these soaps, we’ll never see any soaps again. They’ll never kill a talk show for a soap, but a soap can easily be killed for a talk show. Kill or be killed.

          • TV&MovieBuff

All shows and businesses have that as a policy now. It is a law. You can sexually harrass or molest anyone in any business now.

People keep bringing up what Jeanne Cooper said and what the guys said on the show. What is not known is when this took place and who knew about it when it happened. There are many things that took place years ago that are not allowed to take place now. There are many producers who were well known for hitting on the women on their shows. Days had a lot of stuff with one actor years ago. That stuff went on all the time. But no one pressed charges or they were hard to get charges or anyone to believe them. Now it is not. And that is thanks to people like Hunter King who finally spoke up and said enough was enough.

As to what you said about no soap ever replacing a talk show. Sorry but you are wrong. It has happened in the past and someday it will happen again. Things go in cycles. Whatever is getting the ratings will find a place on the schedule. Any talk show can easily be replaced by a soap if the producers want it to be that way.

Right now networks are fighting for their livelihood. It used to be that people weren’t willing to hunt for shows on cable esp. if they were in the larger numbers but now people don’t care. Things are easier to watch and cable shows and networks are finding their places. The networks have got to find cheaper ways to stay in the business. When soaps can be produced cheaper they will find their ways back on television.

Soap operas are not dead. Look at how well OWN is doing with The Haves and the Have Nots. It is their biggest show ratings wise. It has found its audience.

Soaps will return to daytime too. They just want be the way we know them now. It has just got to take that person to reinvent the wheel and learn how to produce them for daytime where they can once again compete.

    • Bexx

You continue to make false accusation against SON, but here you are every week. Why don’t you go pay Nielsen and post the ratings every week?

How can Days of our Lives have nearly a million less viewers than Bold and Beautiful but still beat them in the 18-49 category? That doesn’t make sense to me. I always thought that Days of our Lives was an old person soap. Although I’m 20 and watch it everyday.

There’s no such thing as a “old person soap”. All the soaps have stories to attract a wide range of viewers.

True. The B&B just seems so youth oriented to me. And most of the people that I know that watch Days are in their 60s. I watch both and and although I’m a much bigger fan of Days it just seems to me like B&B would be way more popular with the younger crowd. Excluding me of course. I’ve watched Days since I can remember with my grams. From the time when we would record on a VCR so we could watch it again when my grandpa got home. Lol

        • sands of time

My maternal grandparents got me hooked in 1984. Back then, their new VCR cost $800.00. Grandpa said “DAYS is worth every damn penny”. lol

You’ve already answered your own question. “Days” can beat B&B in the 18-49 demographic with fewer viewers means that “Days” has more younger viewers than B&B does.

    • DAYS fan since 2000

Well, your “thoughts” were obviously wrong. DAYS has a lot of younger viewers and fans, and they are actually drawing the best ratings in many years. I know many people who started watching because of Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny), including myself (I had stopped watching regularly for three years, but Will and Sonny got me hooked on DAYS again). And I am part of the women 18-49 demo as well as the women 18-34 demo.

What’s interesting here is that GENERAL HOSPITAL has regained it’s #1 spot with the key female demographics over Y&R. Looks like Y&R’s female audience is slipping again post Muhney/Miller departure, controversy interest, and polar vortex uptick. Poor storytelling and these missing actors contribute to audience erosion. GH is better written than Y&R, so CBS had better watch its backside.

    • TV&MovieBuff

The soaps go up and the soaps go down. Months ago fans of GH were predicting that GH was at no 2 and was going to be number 1 by the end of the year. It never happened. Y&R surged again and GH dropped back down for awhile. No one knows what is going to happen. EJami fans have been predicting for years that Days was going to be cancelled unless Ken Corday made them a couple and kept them there. Every time he breaks them up or threatens them they say the same thing. When Chandler Massey left Days fans predicted the show was going to collapse again. Victoria Rowell’s fans predicted Y&R would collapse when she left the show. And on and on. Soap fans are constantly predicting the falls of the shows they supposedly love.

      • let the numbers speak

Now, the question is: If soaps and their fans are so terrible, why are YOU posting dozens of comments here??

Always insulting every soap fan that voices something only remotely critical of the holy networks CBS and ABC and of the cancellation of long-running soaps?!

Everyone can draw their own conclusions about that one…

It won’t have any effect on how advertisers think and work anyway. They’re seeing that soaps are on a huge upward trend and getting them the best ratings in the key demos. So, if anything is up for cancellation, it’s definitely NOT soaps!

The network that gets it first and re-starts one or more of the cancelled soaps, will be the big winner here!!

David Tom is not a flop as Billy on Y&R because he still had his fans from being the original Billy and we welcome him back with open arms People need to just wish actors/actresses luck when they move on and as for MM there is a reason he was fired and he may be guilty or not guilty but whatever the situation is another actor will take over and may do better

    • RedRiver38

Funny thing is, people are STILL talking about Michael Muhney’s absence from Y&R. It was plainly obvious that he was a true force on the show and it is a huge hole in the show’s canvas. Some hate him, some love him, but the fact is, he is a hell of an actor. Whoever tires to fill his shoes will have a very difficult time. If David Tom is getting heat, then nuAdam is walking into a fire pitt. The show should have made Adam like Drucilla. Dead and seldom mentioned.

      • Billy

Agreed. They should have left well enough alone.

      • Bexx

The people who are talking about him are only his lunatic fans, the ones who refuse to move on. The same ones who make it their priority to watch the numbers every week, while proclaiming they have moved on to GH or DOOL. You assuming Muhney was some force shows the true level of your insanity. If we’re to believe that Muhney was some sort of God, Y&R ratings would have held steady when he was dominating all the major story lines.

Days of our Lives should pick up Michael Muhney as Stefano D’s son, EJ. Brilliant!! He’d be perfect. EJ is leaving the show. Wow, would they rake in viewers.
