Day-To-Day Ratings – HH/Total Viewers
Wow Y&R up over 700,000 from last year now. That is great.
Congrats to all 4 shows being up from last year.
Congrats to GH on the 50th, but I can’t help but think that with all the publicity they got, all the money they put out for all the returns, and all the promotion there is no way ABC is going to be happy with those numbers. Only a gain of 38,000 viewers. Yes they gained them in 18-49 but they also lost over 20,000 in 18-34 females.
GH got tons of publicity and they had to spend a lot of money on the returns and the nurses’ ball.
I know I expected bigger numbers.
How can GH not be happy with those numbers. The show was up over 1/2 million total viewers from one year ago. The show was up to its highest number in the 25-54 female demographic in almost 2 years(from an ABC press release). The 25-54 is one of the key demos used to measure daytime viweing. What is there for AbC to not be happy about. I don’t get why people turn huge increases into a negative just does not make sense
Well considering that they hit 3 million viewers in December and February with little extra promotion and fewer returns it is only logical to consider that they wouldn’t be happy. ABC had to spend a lot of money on this celebration with all the big returns and the promotion for the event. Plus as the poster below pointed out they were on primetime shows, game shows, and the front covers of multiple magazines.
They broke 3 million viewers just the day that Kin Shriner returned, but they couldn’t even pull 3 million viewers one day during this big event.
It is not trying to turn big gains into anything. And what do you consider big gains. They have been up from last year by big numbers for weeks now. This week they only gained 38,000 viewers but they lost 21,000 in the 18-34 female viewers.
It’s called using your brain and looking at things logically and realistically. Logic and reality have you ever heard of those.
I’m happy they didn’t fall and happy they are up from a year ago. But I can also realize that this was very underwhelming.
Of course putting back on my logic and reality glasses, you are probably right that GH is happy about this. Anyone (being ABC, Ron C. and Frank V) who thinks it is a smart and good idea to bring on 3 actors that are so recently familiar to the audience and put them in the show as new characters so soon after they left — then obviously they are not thinking about anything realistically or logically. So you are probably right they are happy about this. They probably don’t even realize how underwhelming this is considering they were on the front cover of People, TV Guide, and all over the place getting press they will never get again. And they added a measly 38,000 viewers for their big event.
You obviously don’t understand the big picture, do you? Being up over 500k from last year is the important thing, not the numbers from week to week-although ANY gain is a good one. It’s obvious that your “logic and reality glasses” need to be checked
Well I find it funny that B&B has been up from year to year for 2 years now. And Y&R is up even more than GH is and has been so for weeks.
Neither of those shows have the publicity that GH does. Neither of them have been on the front page of People or TV Guide. They haven’t brought back big names from the past or had all these stunts that GH has done. Both shows have cut or lost several big names from their casts in the last few months. And Y&R celebrated it’s 40 year anniversary with big ratings increases, and they didn’t pull out any big costly stunts to do it either. And they are up over 700,000 viewers from last year.
The big picture is that those 2 shows are in much better shape and have done their increases with solid story telling without all the camp and hoopla. Both of them have been cutting their budgets all along too and kept the quality of the show the same. That makes a big difference.
That is the big picture that I see.
Thank you for sidestepping my comment-all that does is prove how out of touch with reality you are
I completely agree. I was expecting much better with all the promotion that they will never see again. Entire daytime and primetime shows were dedicated to this anniversary. Yes they are up substantially from last year this time, but they were also coming out of their worst ratings ever during this time last year.
The ratings for April 1-5 included only one day of the official anniversary celebration with the Nurses Ball as the centerpiece which began on Friday, April 5. The week of April 8-12, where the bulk of the Nurses Ball episodes played out along with the return of the villainous Cassadines will likely give a better idea of fan enthusiasm — or not — for the soap’s anniversary.
So awesome to see Y and R up over 700,000 over a year ago. GH and B and B are doing well too. Y and R is keeping about a 3.4 daily. Great news.
